Hey, um.
I feel a bit silly asking this, but what is reputation, and how do you build it? I only joined recently, and I can't find *anything* explaining how this works.

I admit I'm not too sure either but as far as I can tell my "reputation" count goes up roughly in proportion to how many times I've posted something to the site, be it adding a bra and its measurements, reviewing a bra, posting an adventure or fit request, posting a comment, etc. Basically just post stuff and get reputation points? That was my understanding. I could of course be wrong...!
I think wendybien is right. It's like participation points. Everytime you contribute to the site (adding measurements, reviews, comments, listings), you get reputation points. I'm pretty sure Jj said there isn't a public list of point values so that people won't try to falsely bump up their 'score'

Jj ? Maybe it's just been quiet lately, but I feel like the page has been stuck for at least a day or so. I thought at first maybe it was just because so many bloggers are from the US and maybe they were inactive over the American holiday weekend, but then I checked brasandbodyimage and she has a new post up (which is great btw!) --it does not appear on the page. I'm not sure how the page works but just thought I'd flag this in case it meant something was going wrong...

Yes, the script stopped running Sunday morning :-/ There's a fix that I need to make and need to turn off the site for a few mins. I haven't done that quite yet :(
Thanks for being alert. I'll t to squeeze it in tonight.
I see! Thank you! I can see why you'd need to choose the time for a temp blackout carefully. Some of us (I mean me) could have withdrawal symptoms ;-)

Hey, so I tried to enter one of my bras, and there's a problem. It is a 38C - Warner's » Elements Of Bliss 2-ply Wire Free (1003) , apparently the only one on bratabase. The trouble is, the bratabase thinks it is an underwire bra with cups and everything, but it is actually a stretchy thing with no underwire and no separate cups. Because of this, the site will not let me enter the information, because I can't fill the "cup depth", etc. fields. Help?

Thanks for mentioning this. I just went ahead and edited the model so it doesn't ask for those fields.
We try to keep up with the correct flags for models, but sometimes we can't catch up :-/ Sorry for the inconvenience and thanks for adding your data to the site :)!
No problem, thanks!

Do I have/need to flip my pictures or does the site do it? I thought I had read that Bratabase does it, but if not I would like to go in and fix some of my pictures.

We'll rotate them up on approval.
That's actually good to know.
Sometimes, even after I've resized and whatnot in Paint, when I upload a picture anywhere it rotates sideways for no reason. If there is a reason, I'm unaware. =p
It did that to me when I uploaded my main picture for my last bra entry - all of a sudden it was sideways. Glad to know you fix that stuff for us, haha.

I have never sold something online so I don't really know how to go about things... I'm thinking about listing some of my bras. Soo... I list it here, get paid and then send it? And how do I send it? Should I have a certain envelope/box or what? Stamps? Help a noob out because I really want to do it right and not screw up somehow

If you have a printer, paypal shipping is nice,or go to the post office, get it weighed and use tracking.I usually use plastic bubble mailers or reuse shipping bags clothes have come in.
Doesn't tracking cost significantly more? I've never tracked anything when I've sent it back and there has never been a problem.
Where do you get a hold of plastic bubble mailers? Do they cost a lot?

Just did a bunch of small fixes on the site, here's a small feature that some of you may use.
If you have a listing notification set up, you will see a "Share url" next to it on your list.
When other user click's that URL they will have the listings notifications screen with the same parameters as yours, so you can share that to tell other users what listings to get notified for.
This one here will create a notification for Decos size 34F.

I'm trying to add a swim top to the site which is not sized in bra sizes. I've seem items on here with non bra sized sizes so I'm wondering if I need Jj to do some kind of manual override for it?
This is tricky.
In order for the site to know how to validate any size entered, we have to indicate what are the rules for each model.
We've gone through most of the brands/models on the site to do the validation. The problem is with new brands that the user enters, right now they use default band/cup sizing which won't let you add the other sizing.
Best bet, is to tell us the brand and size, on this cases pictures of the label are extremely useful.
It's a George swim top from Wal Mart, size XL, if that helps any.
Yay! My bras from brastop came in a lot sooner than i thought they would and they look like they may actually fit! I'll do a review later tonight...or at least when I get home-so excited.

So the first bra I got that fit was an expensive Rosa Faie in a 30F and I only wore it for 8 hours and had bruises all over my ribs and my sternum because it and my body are apparently only a good match in the store.
It was an expensive bra and only worn once and I don't have the first clue how to start on pricing it!
What you paid for it,maybe minus $5.
I'm pretty sure the only hard and fast rule here is not to charge more than you paid (so for example if I got some deeply discounted bras on Zulily for $11.99 each, it would be frowned upon for me to try to sell them here for $25 each, even if their original full retail price was closer to $60). But if you paid a certain amount for it, I think you are free to list it at what you paid, or just a little less, and see if there is any interest (it could also be worthwhile to see what other bras of the same brand have sold for). If you get no offers there is always ample opportunity to slash the price later.
Not bra related, but I finally put a picture up after using the site for quite some time. One of my favourite characters from a Harvest Moon spin-off game. :3

I like. lol
Hello :3
Apologies for the totally nooby questions that I'm 100% positive have been asked before, but I can't seem to figure out the small details that come with selling on here. I've never sold anything on any site other than ebay or craigslist, though I'd rather sell my unfitting bras here than on ebay.. lol.
1.) How do we usually go ... about payments? I'm assuming Paypal is the general consensus, but I want to be sure!
2.) When you're selling one, when do you usually ship it out? Just after the payment has cleared to your Paypal? Or do you wait the 3-4 days for it to transfer to your bank account? I'm assuming the former, but again, clarifying.
D.) I've only seen it once or twice before, but I haven't seen it recently so I want to be sure it's kay... what's the general feeling on selling the matching panties, if unworn? I can just add them and their price in the description, as an option?
Thank you for your time! c:

Paypal is the best IMO. I will ship as soon as I can after I see that they sent money to my paypal account. You are correct about adding the matching panties and their price in the description as an option. Sounds good! :)
I've seen panties thrown into the listings. If you have 'em, I'd say go ahead and mention them in the listing description.
Btw, I love your name and profile picture.

There isn't a way to search for bras from a brand by season, is there?
If you at the brand page that has all the sizes on the bottom part, that page should say what season, what year and what color. Here's an example:
http://www.bratabase.com/browse/freya/deco-moulded-plunge-bra-4234/ Here's another page that show different seasons:
http://www.bratabase.com/browse/tutti-rouge/liliana-bra-tu100/
So the colourway affects the fit -- which I knew, of course, but it was really brought home to me when I found the black Freya Gem Balcony Bra (1361) fit me, I felt like singing, at last by pure luck I'd found the perfect cup depth for me ... only to find the beige colourway was too ... deep. Only by a smidge, but that's all it takes to just feel that tiny bit shabbier.
And lately, since discovering the black Gem's cup depth, I've been playing around with exploring by measurements etc, to find bras with promising measurements and decide whether I should order up or down a cup size etc. I've even found myself on the measurements tabulation page (eg http://www.bratabase.com/browse/freya/gem-balcony-plunge-1361/30FF/list/) for each bra I'm looking at, in an attempt to see the range of measurements. And it occurred to me, what I'd find really helpful in that table, would be a note field stating the colourway. Just so when I'm scanning the list of cup depths, I can see if the black consistently runs shallower or the red consistently runs deeper etc. It might make bra-hunting a tiny bit less pot-luck?
I don't think the colourway field need be factored into the calculations, since averaging takes care of it over time, but to have the information visible for those who like to dig deeper might be useful. That way at least I'd be able to better estimate if there are any beige Freyas which might fit me. As it is, I'll be sticking to the dark colourways for Freya, unless I can try them on first. Which is a pain, because I really need a nude bra!
(It just now occurs to me there could also be a note field, a star or something, indicating whether the bra is pre-owned? Wouldn't make a difference to cup depth, but would definitely make a difference to band length, right? Frex, I have a pre-owned 65FF - Ewa Michalak » Chp Milady (329) . There's no way a new 65 EM band would fit me, but because I've added the bra back into the database, people looking at the table might see that it occasionally comes in a longer band and might be fooled into ordering the wrong band size? I'm sure Bratabase already factors this into its calculations for exchanged bras, but not all exchanges happen through Bratabase so a visual guide could still be useful?)
Thoughts? Jj ?

I'm still trying to find sizes that work and I know I would definitely find such features useful.

How many Bratabasers do we have in the community? Mr. BF asked and I couldn't give good answer. I'm curious as well. Jj is there a way to find out?

I also get asked that question and it is a very difficult question to answer.
The number of registered users on the database is a false number of who are members of the "community" (if one wants to call it that).
There are many users that do not participate in conversation but add bras.
Most of them have a very sparse usage of the site as they only come when they get a new bra every few months and then go inactive again.
Also, users are rotating last year we had a group of users that were very active and now they don't come much to the site. Do they still count for the "size" count?
I can never answer this question, I don't brain like that. Need something more specific. "How many users have added bras ever", or "In the last month" or "Current number of entries on users table", "Total of users with 50+ reputation" "total of users with 50+ reputation that have logged in in the last 3 months and added one bra".
Then again, I suppose that one wants this number to compare with other places, but knowing these details the comparison becomes unfair. It is unfair to compare the activity of users on a site that requires lots of effort to use like Bratabase (measure boobs, measure bras, take pictures, etc) to a place that has much lower threshold like facebook, or twitter. Of course they will have more users because participating is cheaper.
I am unable to answer :S

A whole page of relevant facts and figures could be fun? How would an active user even be defined? Someone who adds bras, shares adventures and/or interacts with others at least once a month?

I don't know how many of you read the entries from the bloggers registered at the site http://www.bratabase.com/bloggers/
But I just added an RSS feed so you can subscribe to their updates and follow from your news reader.

Clearing out my closet. Listed a handful of fairly small bras. Will be listing the padded ones once I get boxes to estimate the shipping weight.
The braswap reddit sidebar has a link that shows weight of typical bras, undies, and boxes that I have found quite helpful and accurate.
MommaK thanks :) I've got a digital scale (and just picked up boxes). I just wanted to make sure I wouldn't be smooshing any padded bras in plain envelopes.
Thanks to timbitlover here and a redditor, I will have more than a few bras to try! I'm so excited!
Thank you, wonderful people, for welcoming me here, also on /r/ABraThatFits (and special thanks to SparkleDarkles for being the first person to comment on my first posting on this site!)
I totally look forward to trying these bras on and posting the results here!

laughingfire, I am excited to be a part of your journey!
Oh I noticed the new listings design today, I like it! I was searching for a 36K bra and thanks to the index sizes it showed as 36:11 instead of 36:15 that I was after so I noticed they were not using UK sizes.

Yes, that sizing nomenclature is useful. I was getting confused about US vs UK sizing when discussing brands I'm not familiar with with a friend who is very conversant in them.
Wish lists - YAY:)
pics of panties when selling sets - also YAY:
Nice work as always, JJ!
THANK GOD we can add pictures of panties now. My previous attempts to add panty photos to my bratabase entries were rejected. I only want to buy a bra now if I can also get usable matching panties.
What is wrong with these lingerie vendors who think we want to buy panties online without knowing how they look in the back? Or how high the rise is?
There are sooo many styles of panties that don't work for me. I take front and back shots, some with white tissue paper inside so people can see detail in the sheer or embroidered parts.
Thanks, Jj!
