  1. So Free Balconette Unlined (0317)

This is actually one of the best fitting and most comfortable bras I own right now. I picked it up in a summer clearance sale last summer for about $10. I have mostly been in moulded and/or lightly lined bras for many years now. This is because I have been having difficulty finding soft cup bras that don’t look pointy on me and I prefer a more rounded basketball boob look. I find this one gives me a nice rounded shape, although it doesn’t offer the most support. I do also find that the band runs a bit tighter than the other So Free offerings at the ... store. I find that the So Free lightly lined balconette band is snugger than the full coverage version, and the balconette is on the loose end for me being that my snug measurements point me closer to a 30 band anyway, though I sometimes feel more comfortable with a 32. The band seems to be holding its stretch pretty well, as the others tend to stretch out easily. This bra has an internal section of mesh on the sides. I really enjoy how light it feels compared with the lightly lined balconette, the scalloped lacing (which has a little bit of clear elastic underneath which king of makes it like stretch lace without actually being stretch lace), and the split straps where they meet the cup. I’d wanted to get more at the time but some were fitting oddly, and availability on sizes was limited. It’s not currently offered but hope that maybe as the weather warms up, it will come out again. It’s probably not the best fit in comparison to other brands, but I do like it for a bra from a matrix based store. Hopefully, now that I’m learning more about my boobs, I’ll find more like it and better.

    Hasn't set fit

I bought this as a cheap, too-small cleavage bra. However, the usual suspects like Panache/Freya/EM/Comexim could stand to follow its construction techniques.

Firstly, there are two sets of loops for the multiway hooks, one of them is in the normal place, and one is right up next to the hooks and eyes. For me this entirely prevents straps falling, without the weird pressure points of a crossback bra. It also has a j-hook.

Secondly, PADDED WIRES! There is no excuse for a molded bra to not have padded wires, and these ones are deliciously soft. I hope someday that unlined bras can have padded wires too, although I'm not sure if it is possible.

I'm not sure how long it will last since it doesn't seem to be the sturdiest bra in the world, and it only comes in matrix sizes.

    • I, too, genuinely appreciate padded wires!!

    • Great observations. Very pretty too!

    • my la senza bras lasted me years. (i know it's bad.) the band and straps wear out like all bras. but it is still in one piece, no tears, rips, etc. but take note that i hand wash everything probably why they lasted so long.

    • btw, do these cups perfectly fit you?

    • 1

newhere they are at least a cup too small, on purpose for extra cleavage.

I own 2 of these bras in nude and black. I wore them exclusively for about two years before I gave up on them and found bras that actually fit me.

They're not terrible bras. They're comfortable, seamless and give my breasts a nicely rounded shape. The criss-cross gore adds just enough visual interest to keep it from looking boring. It has a high gore to keep my centre-full breasts from spilling out of it.

Unfortunately, it doesn't come in a 30 band so I had to size up to a 32. The bra is a little looser than I'd like and it moves around a bit. Not the bra's ... fault. I blame La Senza for that and their ridiculously small size range. The bigger problem is that the bra is rather shallow and I am not. Because of that, my breasts force the top of the cups to curl outwards. I also get a small bit of quadding because of that.

To solve those fit issues, I resorted to wearing one of those super thin zero support sports bras over it. That adds just enough to the bra's structural integrity to keep everything where it should be.

If this bra fits you, it's not a bad bra. It's decent quality and you can get them on sale for a reasonable price. But if you have to struggle to make it work for you, there are better bras out there.

I had to sister size up one size for this because they don't carry my size. Because of this, the band isn't as snug as I'd like. Still, it's a fairly tight band - the 32 only stretches to 29.5. The cups are fairly projected fairly true to size. I don't spill out of the cups and all my tissue is well contained, but after trying it on for a couple minutes I noticed the the top edge of the cups are starting to curl outwards, which is a problem I run into a lot with La Senza bras. To me, that's a huge warning sign that this bra will not last long.

There is no silicone to help this bra stay up. Some people might like that, but my boobs need all the help they can get.

I had to sister size up one size for this because they don't carry my size. Because of this, the band isn't quite as snug as I'd like. Still, it's a tight band - the 32 only stretches to 28.5. The cups fit shallow and run small. Because of this I spill out of the cups and push the bra down and the underwires into my ribs. Ouch!

The inside of the band is lined with some sort of sticky treated fabric to help it stay up. The saleslady told me that it isn't silicone. My only concern with it is that I don't know how well it will hold up to repeated washing.

A nice, sexy, lacy bra. I wish my shape would allow me to pull it off, but it simply isn't going to happen. It gaps at the top. Band is quite true to size, even a bit loose. A true 32 could pull it off, I'd need to get a 28 yet La Senza doesn't make them.

The cups are too tall for my breasts. I have another one of the same line in the same size (La Senza Show Off Balconnet) and the cups are shorter, and fit me perfect.
I know it's probably a cup size too large for me, but the wires are too short on the 32D and cut in.
The band is tight for a 32 band, it stretches to only 31 inches so it's ideal if you're inbetween 30 and 32, or prefer your 30's looser.

The tag on this bra is really confusing. It's listed as 32DD in Canada/the US, and 70DD/E internationally. There is no UK size listed. It doesn't actually differ from any of the other So Free Balconettes I have, so I'm not sure why the size is listed this way.

This bra is pretty, very well made, soft, and comfortable to wear. I love it, except that the band is too large. It's the stretchiest 32 I have ever owned. The band makes it so none of the other parts fit well, but an alteration may fix this.

Cons: super stretchy band, lace and zebra stripes pattern

I altered this bra's band. It's still a bit loose. The fit isn't horrible any more, however, which I think is quite telling. The cups provide a nice shape.

But lace and zebra stripes? Just...why? I like the lace though.

A 32 in La Senza bras actually seems to be more akin to a 34 or 36? It's kind of bizarre. An alteration may make this one wearable again.

This is the first bra I ever altered. It had been my favourite bra, and a favourite bra is certainly not a place to learn about bra construction. I messed this one up by removing too much of the band on the right side. It is now tricky to get on because the clasps and hooks are by my shoulder blade. The right cup now pulls back, and the right strap is on the wrong side of my shoulder blade. Meanwhile, it quadboobs on the left. My error made the shape of the cups worse off than they started. It's wearable, but itchy around the straps and wings

Prior to the alteration, it was aesthetically pleasing, comfortable, soft, itch-free, and way too big in the band. Alas.

The pattern isn't my style, but it was on sale and the style I liked. This bra was fantastic minus the band. It's very soft, comfortable, and has a minimal and gentle centre gore. The band is way too stretchy and also pulls on the cups when it stretches. I'm thinking it may be worth altering the band.

This bra has been worn many, many times, and I don't think it has aged well aesthetically. The band is stretchy, the cups aren't as shapely as they once were (or maybe they aren't sitting right?), and it's rather discoloured (I think it started off nude, and is now rather pinky-beige). There aren't any loose threads/holes/signs of wear otherwise, though. It's definitely well-made overall.

It was great in its prime. It was comfortable, soft, had great shape, and a pleasingly minimal centre gore that didn't irritate my sternum.

This bra may be good practice for altering bands.

At one point, these were the only bras I wore. Unfortunately learning about the swoop and scoop ruined them all for me as they all quadboobed afterwards. I tried them on again after more than a year and--surpise!--no quadboob! It fits a whole lot better than I thought it would.

Pros: thick wings, gore doesn't dig in, comfortable, soft
Cons: sometimes the shape of the cups is weird for my breasts, band is gigantic for my frame

This bra is definitely worth an alteration.

Originally this bra was too loose in the band, and the cups were pretty far apart. I altered it by taking in the gore and shortening the band. The band now fits snugly. The shape of the cups is a tad wide now, but it works pretty well. I like the look and the feel of the bras in this line though, and I'm satisfied with the alteration.

This bra feels fairly cheaply made. The cups are firm. This one does provide a nice shape, but it's stiff. The gore doesn't tack for me. I haven't worn this one, so the band is actually pretty snug. Unfortunately La Senza bras stretch significantly very quickly, so it will probably be too large in a wear or two. I'll update this after wearing it a time or two.

This bra is pretty, soft, and very well made. It's quite comfortable, but unfortunately the band is way too large for me. There isn't much of an underwire (this may even be designed without one?). The lack of underwire means that this bra has a pretty weird construction. It angles where the underwire would be, and sits oddly on my ribs. Sometimes the cups flatten out after wearing it for a while. It also quadboobs. The cups are kind of far apart, but I appreciate the minimal centre gore.

This was one of my favourite bras around the time I exited the bra matrix. I find La Senza bra bands to be very stretchy; this band is way too large for me. It's unfortunate, because this bra is pretty great: it's soft, seamless, has no real underwire, and is aesthetically pleasing. It also gives a lot of cleavage. I find that the shape of it changes as the day goes on - from round to a little bit more flat. It also gives me a quad-boob when I swoop and scoop. The cups are rather far apart.
