  1. Fancies Balcony Bra (1012)

    Didn't fit

This actually kind of fits. The 34 band is bigger than I expected, so I had to go down to the next hook because the underwire hurt my ribs sitting weird on the first hook, but that completely went away on the next hook, so I could have tried the 32 band. But it mostly fits! The cups are wider than I need and technically not quite deep enough, but I'm hesitant to order it in a bigger cup size despite the slight quad-boob (that is technically visible in shirts) because the cups are so flimsy that I'm concerned that if they were actually bigger, they wouldn't provide ... much shaping at all. As it is, my boobs already want to go straight out in this bra, with minimal shaping. But they do look way, way smaller in this thing than all the bras I've tried to far, just by virtue of not being squeezed into a too-small bra. The quadding got worse when I tightened the straps, which also caused some slight gaps at and around the straps and made the cups shallower, but I was comfortable just leaving the straps fairly loose.

This is the first balcony-style bra that I've tried that hasn't hurt my shoulders and neck, but that may be because the band is a little big. Still, I have a good feeling about this one and what it means for my options. The high underwire and wings were mostly pretty comfortable, despite being higher than I needed, but they did sometimes dig in, like if I had to lean over or down. So tolerable. The slightly lower center gore is comfortable, even though it doesn't sit flush at all (but this is the first bra that I was able to push it back to reach my chest, even though it didn't stay on its own when I let go, so that's a good sign--although doing this did cause major quadding, so I probably need the 34HH or the 32J). I'm not sure if I would go much lower, since I'd be concerned that my boobs would make a break for the middle and form insta-cleavage, but this is nice. (Maybe I'd try lower in a bra with more support in the cup.)

My breasts do absolutely feel lifted and reasonably supported. They're totally separated with no cleavage, so they become way less noticeable, which is nice. The underwires are a little hard, but I haven't worn an underwire bra since I was a teenager, so I'll probably have to just adjust to the feeling again. They also want to slip down a bit, but I think that will always happen for me with balcony bras, and it wasn't that bad. The biggest issue I had with this bra and the only real discomfort is the edge of the band. It's incredibly sharp and stiff and caused more or less instant chafing and redness under my breasts that will probably still be sore tomorrow. I wore it for maybe fifteen or twenty minutes, and there was serious and painful redness where the edge of the band had dug in and rubbed all over. Very, very painful. I bought some bra liners to see if that helps, because otherwise it's a perfectly serviceable bra for me, but it's bad enough to make it completely unwearable if I leave it as is. It even feels sharp just running my finger along the edge. The fabric is overall fairly rough and not soft, but the edge of the band, where it's held against the wire and therefore stiffer, is just a lot. The straps are much, much softer.

It definitely could be a better fit, but for a bra that I bought on a whim, out of frustration, I'm pleasantly surprised, and I think it'll work out okay in the interim while I explore my options a bit more. So that's a big relief. I can already tell that it may be unwearable during parts of the month when my breasts are bigger (they're pretty unremarkable and soft right now) and the shape mismatch issue becomes a bigger deal, but I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.

Update: a day later and it's already more comfortable. I think it's sitting slightly below my IMF, but it's much more wearable this way and the support feels fine. I do feel it in my shoulders a bit more, but not a huge amount, and I think the wide wires are less of an issue than I thought.

I'm generally not a fan of florals or pink, but I have been coming around to limited amounts of pink, provided they don't have a warm/peachy undertone. (Because orange hue looks awful on me.)

So, when I saw this pattern I was surprised to be drawn to it (I do like palm and vine prints), and decided it was time to try out the Freya padded half cup again, especially since I missed out on the Zentangle.

Well. Had I tried the Zentangle I would know then that I'd be entering square quadbood disaster. Seriously.

The cup is incredibly wide and flat. I could not get the wires to sit in ... my IMF, and the cups turned my boobs into a wall; flat up front, boobs pushed to the side, with spillage up top. Lots of empty space where the straps connected, the gore tacks at the bottom but tilts away at the top.

Visually, the print is excellent. I love the color combo, and as a lightly lined bra the bra is ... well super light! (nothing like my EMs). The straps weren't incredibly wide either. The gore is also not nearly as high as what I usually experience, and while the bra was comfy it just looked awful on me. I am going to exchange for the 34GG plunge version.

Sadface, this probably means the Freya Fancies longline will also be a disaster for me, so unless I can find a place to try on locally, I'll have to take a pass.

    • just a personal thing, esp when you say the cup is wide, i'd love a pic where I can see the side of the bra, where the wires end. Gives me a better feel of the width.

    • 1

dbmamaz I added an inside view of the cup with tape measure, and one of the side views I took. It's blurry, so I wasn't going to upload it. I don't normally do photos, so I didn't think to check before taking it off.

    • 1

Yeah, once i've taken pics its hard to motivate to put it all together again, esp if i'm not keeping it!

Much like the Freya Offbeat I almost kept, this bra is pretty and comfortable, but the support is missing. The lift is there (I'm in 34H) but once I start moving around the girls are all over the place. The band on this bra is also very large as I have it on the tightest hook and still have some room to tighten further. Most other bras fit me perfectly on the loosest hook in this size, so it's definitely a stretchy band. The cups are wide, partially because of the hook I'm using, but I think they would be wide in the sister size down one band size, too. The cups are shallower than I need, which might be causing it to slip out of place as I move around. I read on ABTF that this bra is supposed to be more projected, but I'm thinking that description more fits the previous model which wasn't made completely of soft stretch lace. It's beautiful and soft, but not enough support for my size.

After trying a sister size that was too big (the band runs slightly large), I'm happy with this size. It has slightly scratchy lace, which could be remedied after a few wears & washes, and the stretch lace on the top of the cup isn't super supportive. After wearing around the house, I noticed it shifting down when I moved certain ways. It's a great looking bra, and I love the fun color differences between the bra and the straps.

Freya recently introduced a size expansion to their Fancies line, and I was eager to try it because I really like the aesthetic of the original Fancies Plunge (the sheer cups and the cutout gore, specifically). Sadly a lot of the detailing Freya gives the plunge did not make it to this bra.

Firstly, this bra is very comfortable. The fabrics are soft and light, the wires aren't diggy at all. The band is pretty loose, which is typical of Freya - I'm hooking it on the innermost hooks right out of the box. The cups are also quite tall - this is full coverage on me. I'm ... low set, very close set, inner fullness, with fairly tall roots, and so I rarely come across a bra that isn't giving me some sort of cleavage.

This is technically a good fit for me, no quadding, decent depth at the gore and along the bottom of the wire. The wires are too wide for my roots, but the bra is so comfortable it doesn't bother me that much. Unfortunately, I'm getting a pretty pointy shape in this bra. The center apex is veeeery deep, and the top of the cup, while roomier than some older Freyas I've tried, isn't really giving me much in the way of shaping on the upper half of my breasts. If the top cup was stretch lace, I would totally bump down to a 32H, and I bet I'd get a decently rounded profile.

Freya typically suffers from a lack of support in their unpadded bras above a G cup, but I feel nicely lifted in this, actually. It's a really decent construction, and if it had given a rounder shape I probably would have kept it despite the full coverage and the wider wires.

    • Thanks for the detailed review. I have been looking at this bra but have never tried Freya.

    • relm I actually ended up recently re-purchasing in a 32H ( I haven't gotten around to adding it to the site yet) and I was a lot happier with the fit and the shape, it's actually become a solid 'everyday' bra for me, and I'm definitely considering picking up more. I think it's worth a shot!

    • I ordered two Freya’s, this style, off of Amazon prime last week. Two different sizes: 38H and a 36HH. I don’t know about the fit but I figured they were similar to Panache. I generally am about a 36K in a balcony style. Elomi, I have discovered, is fairly uniform in sizing. Even their Goddess brand fits me exactly like Elomi. But, wanted something different for my vacation next month. I will see and hopefully have some positive feedback. Thanks, again.

    • I generally wear a 34 HH in Elomi.

This is a lot of bra. I ordered my usual base size of 34H and I fill the cups pretty good but I think I could try a 34GG. However the gore doesn't quite tack. I'm close set so this could be part of the issue. The wires are 13 inches but the wire channel is 14 inches. This puts more fabric closer to my armpit. Its not uncomfortable but I can see it getting hot. The padding is stiffer than Fantasie Rebecca but not as stiff as Deco. It makes me look a little too wide from the front for my liking. The shape is similar ... to Fantasies 4520 just a little less east westy and a little less pointy. Straps are 1 inch thick. The band feels very comfortable and true to size according to the measurements. Dont know how it streches over time. The bra is a little wide but has deep cups. I'm going to try the 34GG for the sake of bratabase but I don't have high hopes. If it still looks too wide from the front it's definitely not a keeper. At least I have my CK Temptress and Arizona (and soon Daily Dream) which is a far more successful padded bra on me.

    • do you think this could work on shallow?

    • 1

I think it might be a little difficult for shallow. I had a little bit of empty space in the cups and I'm pretty full. But we don't wear similar sizes so in your size the construction may be a little different.

Quick points: Long fully adjustable straps. TTS 34 band, do not size down. Two hooks on an H cup. Bandless cup construction. 4 part balconette with the strap connecting on the outside part of the cup. There's a thin silicone strip on the top of the cup from the gore to the strap. Lace felt a bit scratchy.

I did not get much lift from this bra, and had a bit of wrinkling in the bottom of the cup. Gore twisted to tack. Top of the cup wrinkled. I think this bra wants a taller more even shape than I have.

I wanted to love this bra because I think it is absolutely adorable but it just isn't right for me. I tried a size up based on reviews saying it ran small, but it was too big. There is not enough projection for me. I also really need more support and this offers no extra support, no side sling. I love how close set the gore is and the straps are nice and wide. I wish it had 3 hooks. I want to try it in a GG but I don't think I will. This bra just isn't supportive enough for me and I think it would cut into my upper tissue in my true size.

Freya used to be my go-to when wearing molded cups (Idol), so I know they usually fit. The fabric on this style is kinda scratchy, and I can see certain shirt fabrics getting stuck to it. The bra, however, fits me well. Wires are slightly too wide but the softer wires make it doable. It has slightly more support than I had in the Offbeat, which is one I really liked but had to return because of the lack of support. Because it's a seamed bra, the seams are visible through shirts, and the polka-dot design is visible through lighter colored fabrics.

Similar to the Offbeat, but has satin fabric on the bottom of the cups and more of a mesh lace on the top. The Offbeat and Viva didn't have enough support for me, but this one does. One thing I don't really like is the pointless I'm getting in the shape. It has a good amount of projection, but I'm not sure this is the shape for me. My v-neck shirts are sticking out, almost creating a cavern. I get better shape from Elomi Matilda and Bravissimo Lacey.

Wish I'd realized this bra was new to the site- I would have taken measurements and more pictures before returning. I was so excited to find this bra thinking that it was a pretty good fit. However, as I wore it around a little, I started spilling out.

Other than the quadding issue, my notes for this bra were:
-Rosewater color is pretty but definitely more of a salmon undertone than I would prefer- not quite rose colored
-Great shape, band snug but doable
    -Gore tacks
-Some see-through with shirts and seams do show through
-Gore too high, presses into breast tissue leaving deep marks

Maybe longline is not for me. Found the band tight. It measures at 28 and stretches to 34 but was a bit uncomfortable. Gapped a bit on top. I was told that Freya wires were narrow, which was why I tried this bra but found them to be wide and ending under my armpit. The bra did give a very round shape, which I did like.

I got this bra a couple of days ago but so far I like it. For once this is a bra with cups that fit me. The band could be a bit tighter, that's my only complaint. Right now it's okay, but in time I think it might get a bit loose. Sadly there's no 32HH, I'm not sure if 32H would be too small in the cups.

There is no quadraboob, which is great! It's a half cup, but I think the edge comes high enough for me. My breast tissue is quite soft, but the bra is supportive, so the jiggle is no way as bad as ... it could be.

I'm either full on top or evenly full, not entirely sure anymore, but this bra gives a very nice, natural yet lifted shape. I would say that the support is good, might be even better if the band was a tad tighter. The center rests comfortably and snugly against my sternum.

My right breast is bigger than the left and often this shows in padded cups, but in this bra I don't notice it that much, which is great.

I think this is going to be my new favourite bra and am gonna buy another one.

This is a very well put together bra (though the color is much brighter than I expected). However, I have some serious fit issues, especially with the cup. The cups are very wide, with the underwire ending at the very back of my ribcage. This shape causes the top of the cup to dig into my armpit. The cups, on top of being wide, are also set quite far apart. As a result, there is not enough room towards the middle (the gore is unable to tack, and when I push it flat there is a quadboob effect) but at the same time there is extra room in the top of the cups towards the outside of the cups.
