Mar 17, 2013 - Any scientifically minded ladies around?

I'm still within a month or two of starting my bra-fit quest, and it seems to be going pretty well. I've spent most of my school career in the sciences, and I'm a big fan of empirical data; anecdotal evidence is great, but I always feel the need to look a little deeper. I was wondering if anyone knew of any good studies that have been done regarding bras/migrated breast tissue/effects of breast tissue density that would be good starting points? Most of my initial, superficial searches don't seem to be coming back with anything particularly useful, or everything is breast cancer related (and that's a topic I'd like to hold off on for the time being).

Perhaps MilkAndHoney or Vee? Sorry to tag you both as a perfect stranger, but I did read through the "braboratory" adventures and was intrigued.

  • I have been looking for breast studies and research for 2 years as it was somewhat related to my work, and not much comes up, seems that breasts are interesting to scientists only if they are nursing or have cancer. Nothing bra related comes up.
I've seen research trying to prove wired bras are dangerous or showing that wearing a bra doesn't make breasts sag less. So research that goes public is always going against bras, proving they are useless and/or dangerous.
I am intrigued by this, one would hope for some real science backing the bra designs, so my guess is that there are private studies being done for brands, and results are kept highly classified. I am actually pretty sure of this, I read an interview with a woman that developed panache sports bra, where she talked about how much it took to develop that bra and how extensive testing was done.
There are some nice medical books describing breast tissue type and density though, but for that the library is the place to go, not the internet :)

  • Oh, and Branarchist always gets some great insight from plastic surgeons!
