Frustrated with my postman!

In all the time I've lived at my current address, I've never "been home" when they "attempted to deliver" my packages to me. I've long suspected that they don't attempt at all - I've been driving myself mad trying to think if there was a possibility that I didn't hear the door bell or didn't see the note last time I checked - (when ever I get a note, it says it was attempted to be delivered yesterday) but today, I caught my postman in a lie about delivery! I saw him leave my mailbox, and ran out to check it, and sure enough, on the top of my letters lay a note saying he had attempted to deliver a package from Poland (another annoyance - they are supposed to specify the address, but they only write the country) YESTERDAY at 13:54. That just isn't true. First of all, I was home at that time - I even have a receipt stamped at 11:23 from the groceries I bought on my way home (which is bought 5min away from my home), so obviously I had made it home by 2pm. And secondly, because I have 3 bra deliveries coming in, I've been obsessively checking my mailbox - I checked it when I came home yesterday, checked it again in the afternoon, checked it again this morning, and once more when I got home today (at 10am. Exam time, so I get off early) and obviously the note couldn't be on top of my mail if it had been there before todays letters. So I've filed a complaint, and I am going to my post office now to see if I can pick it up. I am afraid that I seem like the cranky old lady, who is confused about what the buzzing sound from the door bell means, but it's just so annoying! (Plus, the quicker I get this package in my hands, the quicker I will allow myself to make another one! haha!)

  • I used to work for Post Danmark (delivering mail and small packages) and its good you've filled a complaint. Do you live on a floor where he doesn't want to walk up the stairs to deliver the package? (Mail box down on the first floor?) I think that's the most normal reason for a postman to not deliver the package - he doesn't want to walk up the stairs to your apartment if you're not even home, so he just drops the note in the mail box at the first floor - I don't know if this applies to you. Otherwise it seems lame, honestly. He can't leave the packages at the post central, because someone would notice them at his station.
Another thing is that the packages could have come in late, so he'd left the central before the package was put on his station, but in this case he should bring them on his route the next day.
It's actually "fyringsgrundlag" (he could get fired) if he doesn't go to your door and knocks/rings the bell.
I hope he'll step it up and start delivering them! I also don't understand why he doesn't deliver the note at the same time as attempting to deliver the package. When I worked there, we had the notepad with us, so in case the customer wasn't home, we would drop a note instead. Not just the next day. He seems pretty lazy. My postman also drops the note the next day instead of writing it while he's here. Really annoying if you come home and the post office is closed. Had the note been there the day before, you could have brought it with you in the morning and swing by the post office during the day.
Haha hope it made sense. I haven't talked about the Danish postal system in English before.

  • However, my postman rings my bell down on the street (I live on the 2nd floor), so if I open he always comes up. If I don't, he just locks himself into the hall/where the stairs are and drops the mail for everyone in the mailboxes, and then he doesn't bother going up the stairs to check if I'm home. It's a bit of a bother if I'm not fast enough to lock him in cause then he thinks I'm not home and he leaves without coming up to my front door.
Eh, I think this makes sense for you, I don't know about people not living in Denmark. Things are probably different there
