Measurement Correlations

So, last night I was perusing this site, adding bras to a list of what I thought might fit me. Given as I'm still pretty new to this, I was using the measurements my one (mostly) fitting bra as a starting point. However, I'm curious how horizontal and vertical depth of a bra relate to breast size/shape. Is it similar to sister-sizing within band and cup sizes? For instance, if you got a narrower cup, would it need to be taller, like a narrower band requires a larger cup size? Or is it more related to specific widths and depths of an individual's breasts? In my case, my horizontal perimeter is 10" (25.4cm, according to the Google converter, because I don't feel like measuring myself in cm right now) and my vertical perimeter is 8.5" (21.59cm, again Google converter), and the bra in question has a cup width of 5.5" (13.97cm converted) and depth of 8" (20.32cm converted). I've added a link to said bra, in case you wanted to know more about it. I guess what I'm asking is, how do I use the various measurements on this site to find my best fit, and how close to breast measurements should the cup measurements be? Am I making all this more complicated than it needs to be? I have a tendency to do that...

Confusedly yours,

  • The way I understand it this varies depending on the firmness of the breast, the sturdiness of the cup and how well your shape fits the cup's. It's unlikely that you will need a cup that is much deeper than your horizontal perimeter. So the best way to use the numbers is by trying on bras and learn what works for you.

  • I agree with blur. Bras vary so much. Narrow cups doesn't necessarily mean that you need a taller cup. It doesn't correlate like band and cup sizes do. It does have to do with depth, width and also heighth of your breasts. How wide apart they are and how close together they. The shape of your chest from your underbust and above your underbust. How wide you like your center gores, ( I prefer plunges with very short and narrow center gores for example). Whether have more fullness on top part of breasts or bottom part. And the amount of side breast tissue you , the amount of breast tissue you have in the center of your breasts also. Shape, and your actual measurements ( underbust, overbust measurements. Standing and bending over overbust measurements. All the ladies on bratabase have had different experiences with and a lot of different things and some have different opinions. So, if you need help you are definitely on a great website for women! :)
