Braless for the night?

I've sometimes gotten away with going braless under lightly supported party dresses and tight bandage-like tops in the past, but having a cup volume of roughly 28H, I've never gone without ANY support. Last night I had an ointment on my chest and didn't want it to ruin any of my precious bras! I also didn't want to put anything on it that might absorb the ointment and render its effect ... less effective. Since I was staying in, I decided that this was a good time to go commando.

At first it was liberating! I went about my business after work feeding the kitties, lounging about on the couch playing video games, and making myself a little snack in the kitchen. Boobs got in the way a little bit, especially when I moved my arms, but overall, I felt empowered (RAAAAAARRRRR!!!), and I imagined myself Jane of the freaking jungle roaming and foraging for food while combating enemy insurgents (on my PS3).

Somewhere between a bite of chocolate chip cookie and dodging an enemy sniper, a tell-tale cramp started creeping in, starting with the spot that lies between my shoulder blades I refer to the PAIN HOT SPOT. The more I hunched over to compensate for the front load weight, the more intense the pain got. I tried leaning back on my seat to see if that might help. Nope. It also made me suck real bad at my game. Ugh.

Feeling defeated, I retreated to my bra drawer to find my least favourite precious bra. Sifting through my neatly stacked colourful Freya Decos trying to decide who would make the ultimate sacrifice, a familiar embroidered beige strap caught my eye. I found my old bra vest! It was perfect! To give you a better picture of what this is, it's basically a secondary support vest to wear over a bra that is open at the chest, but firm and supportive for your back. I used to wear them to supplement my poorly fitting 34DD VS bras. But now that I have bras that encase completely under my boobs instead of sitting on top of them, I had no need for my little beige hero. Here's an example of one http://litbimg4.rightinthebox.com/images/384x500/201205/cotton-with-lace-multi-way-front-busk-closure-wedding-party-shapewear_kpb1336536119695.jpg

He came to my rescue again last night. My back pain quickly diminished and its convenient design didn't interfere with my ointment application. Back to cookies and video games :)

In closing this rant, I've established that I definitely have some bra dependency. Going braless for me really isn't as fun or liberating as I had imagined. Perhaps that should have been pretty obvious to me, but for whatever reason, it wasn't.

Just wanted to share this story and see if anyone else has stories or comments on the topic of bralessness?

  • I've been braless 80-90% of the time I've had boobs since I was young,I'm now 19.It didn't use to be so bad,but now it's starting to get real uncomfortable.Bras that don't fit aren't comfortable, though when I get tired of the bralessness I will wear a bra that doesn't fit right for a while,it will be better than going braless completely.
I find a bra with too loose of a band will give me back pain even worse than going braless,a good fitting band will eliminate that.Heck, even the Andorra I tried that was about 2 inches too small for me in the band took away my back pain, though it was hard to breathe.lol

  • Aaah I used a bra vest too before I found well-fitted bras! In the end, it was almost torn to rags because of the pressure XD It was way too wide for me as well, but there was only a one size option at the time :P I used to wear that for support, and then a pair of stretchy bra tops (ah-bra like) over it. That was my improvised 'bra structure'.
