Too big = back pain?

I have a friend who is much more endowed than me and she was complaining about back pain. I asked her if her bras were fitting properly, naturally her answer was "of course they are, I'm a woman, I know how a bra should fit". I then asked her when was the last time she bough a new bra, to my surprise she told me it had about 3 years, I used this as an opportunity to suggest going shopping for new bras. She picked out nothing but molded cup bras in a 36C. Not one of them fit her properly in my opinion, I suggested she try a 34D but I got that look like what are you kidding me. Anyway I was able to persuade her to try a non-molded 3 part cup bra in a 34D. It fit her so much better, not perfect, but much better than anything she had tried on to that point and she even admitted how good it felt on but she couldn't wrap her mind around the fact that it was a D cup and that the bra provided a different shape then she was so used to having. She reluctantly bought that bra and a few of the other ill fitting 36C molded cup bras. My question to you is, can a bra that is too big in the band cause back pain? I've heard of bands being to tight causing pain, but never really heard of the converse being true.

  • If the band is too large, she's not getting support, so yes it can cause back pain.

Most of the support in a bra comes from the band, so it is important to have a correctly fitting band, especially for well endowed women.

I would guess that she's most likely still not in the correct size, but this may lead her into finding better fitting bras.

  • yes, she's absolutely not in the correct size and unfortunately all the fitters in this store didn't know jack about fitting, so it was me against 4. It's hard to tell someone "that bra doesn't fit well" when you have 4 fitters saying it's the correct size.
