Plus size fitting advice, please!

I'm helping an online friend. She's been wearing wirefree bras in a too big band size (she could pull them on with hooks closed). I suggested a smaller band and larger cup, and she bought Elomi Rita (8011)](model:4592) in 44GG.

When she first tried it on it felt good, but she says that when she's been wearing it, the underwires dig in under breast, especially when sitting. Also, the gore digs in and has rubbed her skin raw :( I'm wondering if I should just suggest something with a lower center gore but she's at the threshold size where many Elomi models aren't made. Only lower center gore models are Elomi Hermione (8120) and it's sister model Elomi Kenya (8131) and Elomi Amelia Bandless Moulded Bra (8740). All are bandless, spacer bras, a very different type than the full band full cup bras she's been wearing before.

Is it possible that the gore digs in because the bra is moving too much? Maybe because it's pushed up when she sits down? Would the bandless bras work better then?

She also told that the band feels ok when she's standing, but feels tighter when she sits down and is very constricting when she leans over. Is this an indication of wrong band or cup size, maybe?

  • I find higher gore models to be a pain, though I am going to give a few different styles with a higher gore a try since I love them.
It sounds like she may be wearing the wrong size band and cup...sometimes just going up a tiny bit in cup will help.Or maybe get her an extender to try with her new bra and see what happens. That happened with a bra I got that was too small.
This bra is probably too small, though this band is pretty stretchy.I got it in a 34G (sized down 4 inches cause of how stretchy that band ran),and outgrew it,but have another on it's way in a 40GG so I can try altering the band. But I was thinking something like this may be good for her,at least gore wise.

  • I don't know your friend's body type nor am I plus-size myself, but from what I've seen, a typical issue with plus-size figures is a pronounced tummy 'roll' that presses upward against the bra band, especially when changing posture, for example when sitting down or bending over. I'd say that the gore digging in can indeed also be caused by the same thing as the whole bra is forced upwards.

I'm not sure much can be done to alleviate those issues other than looking for bands that curve upwards towards the centre gore and (otherwise less than ideal) partial band bras that also don't have much 'excess' band below the wires.

As to the gore itself, although a tall and tacking gore undoubtedly provides the most stability, I can imagine that this may be one of those cases in which one would possible compromise on that ... if models with lower gores are not available/don't solve things and bending the wires out doesn't solve things either, could it possibly be conceivable to simply accept a gore that very slightly 'floats' so that it doesn't 'attack' the sternum too much? I know that this is highly unorthodox 'advice', but it seems to me that if the 'rules' don't work one has to bend them ... ;)
