Why are push-up bras bad for you?

I'm searching the web for some bras that I could actually get a hold of locally (within 70 kilometers from my house) when I decide to go shopping, and since I live in Sweden (another bra wasteland, nothing to see here!) there's basically only the clothing store shops. I have no problems with having to alter my bras, I'll do it if I'm happy with the bra in general (bad band length and/or too wide-set straps). Anyway, I came across this push-up bra that I in theory could alter to fit me. I have no interests in wearing a push-up bra, but I'm just wondering, why are they considered to be bad for you? I don't know if that's just something only I have heard around here, but I'd like your input either way :)

  • Thanks for bringing this up!

I think the idea that pushup bras and minimizers are bad for boobs is simply stupid. They are bad for deep boobs because it forces boobs into an unnatural shape, for shallow they can be a life saver!

For my boobs the pushups that Venusian Glow screams are so much better are the really unhealthy ones. Meaning those who pushes everything to the middle. Like Ewa, Deco and the likes. The unhealthy pushups are much better.

  • I think that deep boobs can do well in shallow bras as long as the tissue is very soft. Deep doesn't automatically mean pendulous, but many times it does. So... I don't think it forces the boobs per se if you have deep boobs, it just depends on the density I guess. Hey, I'm no expert on deep boobs so I'm not saying I'm 100% certain, but I can't see why it'd be bad for really soft boobs that don't feel any pressure from it?

What do you mean when you say "the pushups that Venusian Glow screams are so much better"? You mean the Ewa Michalak plunges? I'm guessing that you say "the unhealthy pushups" and mean those who have thick "cushions" on the bottom or on the sides? I have only ever worn two pushups in my life, and both bras had thick padding on the bottom half of the cup, and on the outer bottom sides as well. Could you please describe the difference YOU get in comfort and fit from these types of bras? :) I'm interested in your point of view.
