Strap Separation Musings

After my disaster with the PL Toffik that I got, it made me think about strap separation on bras, and how it can affect the fit of the bra. I did some quick measurements and the distance between where my straps should sit on my shoulders for maximum comfort is about 11-12", and the distance between the Toffik's straps at the front of the bra was about 14-15" (I took the measurement a few times because it's kind of hard to do yourself). That could be 4 inches (or two on each side) between where the bra straps want to sit and where they were actually sitting. No wonder the cup got distorted!

Do other people find strap separation an issue? Do you think it would be a feasible or useful feature to track here? I'm resigned that I'll have to adjust anything that I wear to make it function correctly, but I'm wondering if this could be useful for people in a size range where bras don't suffer from terrible grading issues.

  • We currently track that, when you add fit information you answer whether the straps were too close or too far for you. We still don't make much use of this information but you can see it in the reviews.
This measurement is not considered because it is very hard to calculate with the bra alone and wearing it it will vary depending on the wearer, so we're better off avoiding this confusion when measuring your bra :-/

  • I have huge issues with strap separation. I have scars where my arms turn to my armpit/boob area because companies don't recognize that just because you have a narrow ribcage doesn't mean you're narrow from the side (I'm only narrow in front for example). I would kill for straps that sit 9.5-10 inches apart.
