Cleavage is "over"?

I stumbled upon this article recently, I thought, I'd share. According to Vogue, Cleavage is now "over"... Boobs are "out of fashion"...

Okay...seriously?

So should I stock up on some turtleneck sweaters?
Buy some minimizer bras?
*sarcasm*

  • Unfortunately, since women's bodies are considered objects, they go in and out of fashion like clothes do. Think of the flat chested ideal of the 20's flapper, the hourglass ideal of the 50's, the toned supermodel look of the 80's, so on. Cleavage, push-up bras, and implants have all fallen out of fashion as a result of a supposed pushback against the very enhanced, high maintenance VS angel look of the 2000s. Unfortunately this isn't as positive as it sounds because it means women who do have--naturally or by surgery--large breasts will now be viewed more negatively than before, as small breasts are associated with the "natural" look that is in right now (the irony being that only thin women's bodies are included in this view of natural). The butt and thighs are decidedly the "in" sex symbol body part, while the 2000s were much more focused on the bust (see: all the adult models & porn actresses 10 years back getting breast enhancements while now it's all about butt implants and that backward facing, low angle instagram shot).

  • Also I don't think it's positive, that's not why I posted it.
I was more like "wtf" when my mom told me about it.
