Apr 27, 2013. Alterations, replacing too stretchy wires!

I got an idea today. I have many cute bras that have much too stretchy underwires, and I thought maybe I could change them myself! I had already hacked this Kapp Ahl bra and now I took away the wires and tried to put them into one of my Mimi Holliday bras. It seemed good!! :)
Only the Kapp Ahl wires are a little too long, so I have to get some tools to cut them and make the edges smooth and round. I have some tongs around the house, but they weren´t strong enough, couldn´t cut!

I have 7 Mimi Holliday bras which need new wires and also the Tanzania stripe. The Tanzania is maybe the worst one!!! Its wires are the stretchiest ever and they even are much shorter than the bra could have. There is room for at least 1,2 cm longer wires! In this bra the cups get pulled and distorted the minute I try to put it on. I did some rechecking of my Mimi Holliday bras and only the padded versions have this problem. The soft cup comfort bras have ok wires!! I don´t get it... Why do they make them so? They are very expensive bras and one would expect some quality!!

I have 3 more Kapp Ahl bras that I can hack, they´ve been for sale for ages but nobody seems to want to buy them. Too bad because they were really nice quality bras, when I wore them and had no idea of swooping & scooping :( But now they will serve in other ways, I´m so glad I finally get some use for them! I´m also planning to make extenders from their hooks :)

  • Underwires can be difficult to cut, but if you have needle nose pliers, or any sort of wirecutterss, and a hammer you can cut them by placing the underwires on the sharp part and resting it on cement. Using the hammer, hit the fulcrum of the wirecutters a few times and it should work :p

  • ^Thanks for that suggestion!! I didn´t even think of that :)
I still do have to get some tools or pay a visit to my dad´s...

Another option would be to find bras that are on sale with suitable underwires.
