Altering the band on a babydoll, is it possible?

The band on my babydoll is too loose, which is causing the cups to gap a bit. I would size down in the band but it's a 28, so there's no smaller band size option. It's a curvy kate ritzy in size 28e. My band size is 26.
Does anyone have any suggestions for how I can alter down the band size and still keep this as a babydoll? I'm not opposed to turning it into a regular bra, but it would be nice to be able to keep it intact. The band is pretty stretchy, so it's not very close to how small I would need it. I've been thinking there may be a way to take the stretch out of the band, but I'm not sure how. I do have a sewing machine.
Doing the typical taking in at the side would cause the babydoll material to bunch, and I would like to avoid that. Taking it in at the hooks wouldn't work because there is embroidery there that can't be taken in because it would be bulky, and I wouldn't want to cut it away.
Any ideas?
