Didn't fit

Fit: I can’t tell why this didn’t work for me. For some reason I had sadboob™, where the shape of the bra made my breasts point downward, almost as if they were lifted but their full on top shape was left to do its thing, that is, to point down. There was some projection, but in general they were held close to the chest in an East West fashion, shallow and wide. Looking from the top I enjoyed the view, but from the side the top of my breast was exposed, the apex was pointing down, and then the bra came in at a rather horizontal angle forming a downward pointing triangle with a slight curve on top. Generally speaking, the bra was much shallower and wider than the other unlined Curvy Kates I have tried, but very low as well, unlike the shallow wide Curvy Kate Daily Dream Balcony Bra (CK4501) and friends. The Portia was very narrow at the top of the gore, so much so that the wires crossed when my centerfull breasts pushed them together, but in all other respects it was exactly like the Curvy Kate Dreamcatcher Balcony Bra (CK2301). At the same time, at the bottom of the gore it was quite splayed, unlike other unlined Curvy Kates. The wire seemed medium flexible to me. It was quite low set, with lots of décolleté exposed and open on top, if a little more closed than the Dreamcatcher because of the ribbon top. There was no quadding on this bra, and generally I felt the fit was similar except for the gore width at top.

Comfort: The fabric was soft and the lace and ribbon were as well. The wires were not uncomfortable as the wings were nice and low.

Look: The shape was so bad, which was a shame, because I actually liked the hot pink with orange color. I do like certain shades of hot pink, and looking down at the tops of my boobs framed with ribbon was nice. However, the side view was so so horrible. Why, Portia, why? Oh well, it's a close enough look to the Princess that I will wait for the summer colors to come out for another brightly colored beribboned monstrosity which actually will make my boobs perky.

Fuschia colorway

  • In the 30FF/G range, this is considerably more shallow than Dreamcatcher, Gia, and Ellace. It is more projected than most, but more shallow than several other CK. It is also more closed on top than the others. I was surprised it cut across me, mildly. Also, it has less center projection than the aforementioned models. Interesting how the shape changes throughout the range!!! Bra engineering would be so much fun :-) :-)

I wish this had worked for you: the color is delightful. :-) :-)

  • It's so weird to me because the Dreamcatcher and the Portia are basically the same bra in this size. I wonder why it changes across the sizes so much?

Yeah there was little center projection in either bra for me, like my breasts were being swept to the side. More like an Elomi bra but shorter and shallower.

  • If I hadn't read the "related models" page, I would never guess Portia and Dreamcatcher were the same cut. Never.

  • We both tried the newest Portia (Fuchsia/Melon)....perhaps there has been a change recently. The Dreamcatchers I will try next are Melon and Black. Lemon Fizz was significantly more immediately projected than Fuchsia/Melon Portia. So much so, I would not recommend Portia for projected breasts. Strange!

  • Hmm. I'll look out for your review of the Melon Dreamcatcher then. It would be so weird if they made that bra shallower in the new styles and more projected in the other ones.

  • Also that's a good point- I need to make sure the right colorways are inputted into all my bras.

I think the center projection category may be what is most different in the 30FF/G range. Because I'm center full, increased center projection feels fantastic. If the Melon Dreamcatcher is what I'm hoping (very projected), I'll feel euphoric ;-) ;-)
