Whyyyyyyyyyyy

Yay! I received my Ewa order today! A PL Black in 70LL and a PL Stalowka in 70M. They are GORGEOUS! Will add pictures etc soon.
I finally have 2 bras that fit near perfectly! The straps will have to be moved to the center a bit for better fit on both.
The main issue though... the cups are wonderful and the band is super nice&snug. But also painful at the center gore. I've located the source of the pain, I think. A picture explains this issue better than words, which is why I've included a link to a paint drawing. In purple, outline of the body. Grey, ribs. Red, bra. The green arrow points to where the band sits on my underbust, and between my breasts I hope it is clear that it has a spot where there is no ribcage (just beneath the breastbone really) and that is the spot where it feels like it's digging in. There is a clearly visible red mark all the way across the underside of the central gore there, but the redness stops at the boob. The band is very snug, but if I loosen it even one row of hooks it feels like it's riding up :/ (I took a picture on my phone, will add it in comment tomorrow)
It's pretty painful and I had to take the Stalowka off after about 5hours of normal wear, I didn't want the pain anymore.

Does anybody else have this problem? And/or how could I fix this? Add some felt or similar stuff to the central gore for padding maybe?

Thanks so much!

  • I have this problem with some plunge bras. I find that it's related to my posture- when I slouch, the gore digs in more. But when I stand up straight, shoulders back, it feels a lot better. I've been using one of my poke-y plunge bras to encourage me to sit up straight :P

Also check if tightening or loosening the band or straps has any effect on the gore. That would indicate that it's more of an issue of where the weight of your breasts is distributed; it might be digging in because the band or straps aren't doing enough work, or it could be that the band or straps are doing too much work and pulling it towards your body.

To test if you need to add padding, fold a few pieces of toilet paper together and stick them under the gore to make some makeshift padding. Is that better? Is it worse? If it's not better, there's probably no point in sewing extra padding on.

Another option is to bend the underwires outwards. You can do this with your hands but a pair of pliers is more effective. Some underwires bend more readily than others, though- and some just always spring back into shape. It depends on the bra!

But I'd try the first and second tests to see if it's related to posture before making any alterations to the bra. :)

  • A have a bra that did that one day. I had to go home early because it was digging in right under the center gore. It doesn't do it now that the band has stretched out (too much so it's kinda useless) but it was also a bra that slipped down in front, which is probably why it dug in. Is yours slipping down?

Oh, also the cups on that one were too small, and the gore too wide; both contributing to the gore tilting outward a little bit at the top, which probably made it dig inward at the bottom.
