Whatever became of you, Selmark?
Many years ago, back in my days of wearing a European E, I had some Selmark bras that I really loved. Those things were so comfortable. So comfortable, in fact, that when I couldn't find a shop that carried them, I mailed the company (paper mail!) to ask where I could get them. I was eventually pointed to their Benelux distributor, and talked to her on the phone, but that was only for getting bulk bras. So I gave up.
I don't think I ever got rid of the bras, though: they're still in a box somewhere, worn out but still lovingly remembered.
About four years ago I did some research into the company to try to find out what had happened to them. I learned that I was out of their cup range, and that they were focused on the Spanish-speaking market, to the point that they didn't have an international site (or online ordering). Because the items at the time were largely hand-crafted, they had no resources to expand the market.
Bratabase is a pretty international site, so I was wondering why there are no Selmark bras in the database. I looked today and the Selmark site is now in English as well. (They even have a bra that looks somewhat like mine from years ago: Diablo is the same fabric, and a "basic" so it could still be around. The fabric looks like it would be uncomfortable but it isn't.) You can even order online (a big step forward, given that as recently as 2008/9 you couldn't). Sadly, the brand still stops at E, so I certainly won't be trying them. (I made the mistake of looking at the collection and now I'm sad that I can't have a blue Mar Saura.)
But if there is anybody in their size range, you might give this brand a try. There isn't a single one in Bratabase so it would be an adventure, but unless the company has changed dramatically in the last 15 years (which is of course quite possible), they make good bras.
You wouldn't want to have to make me dig out teenaged bras with worn out labels and measure them just to get some Selmark in Bratabase, would you?
