Cutting in at the armpits :/

Okay, so I'm going to put this out there to see if anyone has a similar problem and what brands they like that combat it:

I find that when it comes to bras that, in every other sense of the word, fit, the place that always tends to go wrong is the armpits.

Whyyyyy. I get the smoothest line ever across the top of the cup. I'm fully encased by the wire, no more and no less. The band is nice and snug. So why are the outer edges of the cups (and the straps as well) cutting directly into the flesh and tendon of my armpit? Often, this is accompanied by straps that are set too wide and barely stay on my shoulders. Do I have a narrow torso and/or shoulders? (Or at least have more depth than width, so a bra that fits someone else with a similar circumference but flatter cross-section still manages to fit wrong on me?) What is going on here? Curvy Kate tends to be the worst offender, but I find this issue with some Freya bras as well.

If other people are having the same issue: How do you deal? What brands or styles do you recommend who have plenty of scoop around the armpit and steer clear of cutting-in. Or, for the crafty, have you ever altered a bra to combat the issue? I'd love to hear how other people are fairing. I'm on the fence about a Freya Ivy Longline that kind of cuts in, but fits elsewhere. I might keep it if I can alter it thusly.

  • Having the same issue. Unfortunately I have no advice.

  • What size are you wearing? Do you have narrow shoulders or a small frame or wear a small band size or a big cup size?

Bras are not graded properly. This means that many brands just take a bigger band-smaller cup and sister size to make the smaller band-bigger cup size. Ewa Michalak does this and probably many more brands. At my size, 28JJ, all bras cut into my arms and all straps are set to wide more or less. I've honestly just given up and started to alter everything I plan on wearing and it has made such a difference. Not the most fun way to tackle the problem, but at the moment the only thing that works.
