Sep 25, 2012

I am on the hunt for a well fitted bra. I measure 28-29 inches for a ribcage, it fluctuates and my bust measures 33" standing and 34" leaning over. I have been trying for over a month now and still have no luck so I will summarize everything now, just because I am so frustrated.

First online order contained several Curvy Kate styles of bras in 28D and 28DD. The mesh ones were in 28DD balconettes and for the life of me no matter how much swooping and scooping I did, the top of the cups would wrinkle. The Tease me I got in 28D and 28DD... Although the cleavage in the 28D was great my nipples would pop out, not ideal. The 28DD came up high enough to just barely cover them but the top of the cup didn't lay flat. The gore also dug painfully into my sternum. Sadly these all got sent back.

Next order I tried 28D in a variety of styles, Kalyani, Panache, Freya. I either over spilled these cups or I am assuming they were the wrong shape, because they cup into my breast tissue underneath my arms, or front top of the cup would wrinkle. I now think my breasts are wider set and bottom heavy.

So in my frustration, I went to La Senza to try on more, maybe I messed up somewhere. Well 30B and 30C (30 being the smallest band size) were hilarious to put on, The boobs just overflowed and the quadboobs could be seen from miles. okay slight exaggeration but funny.

I finally settled with getting a 30D which fit decently on the tightest hook and I figured I could take in the band. So I got home and took in the band and gore a bit, creating a 28DD, the sister size to 30D. Well I be damned, now I am quadboobing with it. Not a whole lot, but enough as I wore it throughout the day they would bulge a bit and the band started riding up my back, even though I measure the thing stretched at 28 inches. My boobs also now escape around the underarm and I had back fat forming. I don't have any fat on my ribs, I literally can count them, so I am assuming its boob that got pushed around. Needless to say I didn't alter the other bra and will probably just return it.

Now I just don't know where to go. I have tried several brands in a couple sizes and nothing it working. The closest, being the Curvy Kate, I have ordered a 28DD and 28E and will try those again and if they work, change the gore out of them. I hope

Well if you made it through my entire rant, thank you for reading and if you have any suggestion of where to go now, I would greatly appreciate it, my ta ta's look so sad in their current 32Bs and need some help.

  • Based upon the measurements above I would say that you are most likely 30DD. Depending upon the bra 30D, 28DD or a 28E might also fit.

Making an educated guess the 28DD Tease Me was very close to actually fitting you. Barely covering your nipples is exactly how the Tease Me is supposed to fit and that the ruffles show under clothes is intentional. (There is a reason this bra is called Tease Me.) It also not uncommon that the centergore digs in at first when you start wearing your correct size.

I would thus suggest you keep trying with padded halfcups. Cleo has the Cleo Juna and related cuts that you could try, also Masquerade has some cute padded halfcups in your size. I think that like most women in your size range you need shallow and wide cups, padded halfcups tend to work best for that. If you want unpadded, go for the Cleo balconette cuts, Cleo Lucy, Cleo Marcie. Cleo Marcie runs tight in the band, many go up in bandsize in this bra.

  • As always t_maia has given some great advice that I can't really add to but I do have a comment regarding your alteration of the 30D bra. I tried this a while ago and got a similar result to you. The reason this doesn't work so well is that by shortening the band you are putting more strain on the underwires which distorts their shape. You end up with a wider but shallower cup hence the quadboob and underarm spillage.

Hopefully you will have some luck with t_maia's suggestions.
