Hi guys, I am new to bra fitting and I have a million questions. I have learned a great deal reading other posts, but I am a very, very nutty person and have more questions. It is my goal to help those around me wear properly fitting bras. It is my hope to go into business one day, but I think I should get all of the amateur practice I can before I start trying to fit people.

(1) I am wondering how straps are supposed to be worn. I know they aren't supposed to be doing the work. Does this mean they should be worn loose, or is it advisable that they be worn on a firm setting?

(2) Cups. Is it safe to say that cups should be barely full? I mean, I know quad boob means too full...what constitutes full enough? Is it just to the point that there is no gaping? Should the bra be full enough that a molded cup will not gape at all when shoulders roll forward?

(3) Cups again. I have a Freya Deco that seems to come up really high on me. For the most part the cup is full. I would say that the only part that is seriously questionable would be that it is slightly easier for me to get my finger in, I would say at about the last half inch at the top before cup meets strap. Standing up straight, there is no evidence of gaping. Is this acceptable or is the cup too large?

(4) Where the heck should the under wire stop beneath the arm? I have a Curvy Kate Tease me that I think fits fine for the most part (maybe a bit too small). I thought the under wires were fine, but another reader advised that she thinks the under wires were cutting into the breast tissue, now I am wondering how bad my idea of fit was.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

  • That are a lot of questions.

1)Straps: not firm, but not loose either. Straps contribute to the shape of the cup, shortening the strap on the smaller and lengthening it on the larger breasts is a good solution to slightly asymetric breasts.

2)Cup: no gaping. If there is a little gaping but one cupsize down causes quadboob, try shortening the straps. Most moulded cups will gape when you roll the shoulders forward, if they don't the bra might be on the brink of too small.

    3) If the centergore sits flat the cup is most likely the right size.

    4) Whereever the breasttissue of the woman ends.
I need very wide wires, ideal wire width for me is 24-26cms. But I have also met women who need very narrow wires, for whom ideal wire width for a bra in 34H would be 8cms.
When you are just before your period try to figure out where your breast tissue ends. Lying flat on your back, bowing forward and lifting up your arms as if you are trying to reach the sky all help when you watch yourself in the mirror and try to feel for tissue.

  • Thanks, makes sense. See, I have been very confused with this Deco bra. I really didn't want to go to the hassle of returning it. It fits fine when I am standing or sitting up straight, but my posture is a nightmare. I was concerned that this bra was too large because every time I had crappy posture, the cup would gape at the top half. Also, thanks for the breast tissue tip. I think I will absolutely be trying that.
