I was reading this: http://www.venusianglow.com/2013/06/pictures-of-breasts-with-narrow-roots.html and now, inquiring minds want to know. That picture at the top with the outlines of wires got me thinking.

I've taken in my gore of my Marcie, so the wires fit nicely on the inside but there's about a finger's width of space between the side crease and the mark from the bra. Am I being too nibbly here? Does this even matter? I thought I was way wide and the pinching I had when I first got this bra was from that. Now pinching is gone, and there's a gap at the side.

I guess I'm still getting the hang of the right fit. I've gained some weight and was going to go up to the next cup size when I have some cash, but maybe that will be even wider in the wires? I plan on checking out those Freya half cups soon, which should be narrower, possibly?

(Oh, and I did the extender thing. It didn't make a difference in the wire position.)

If a little side gap doesn't matter, I'll just leave it, but I'd like to do this whole bra that fits thing right.

  • Only you can decide if it's a problem--either if it is uncomfortable or if you don't like the shape the bra is giving you with this small discrepancy between wire width and your own anatomy.

While that page is so helpful, I wish the people who volunteered their photos had also sent in a picture of the wire imprint from the bras with narrower cups that fit them well/OK. In my experience it is rare to get a bra with a wire that fits PRECISELY (to within a couple millimeters) in the crease around the boob. For one thing breast roots are not shaped like a perfect U or C shape, unlike underwires, so there is just no way for them to coincide with one another exactly. For another, the importance of wire width has to do with (a) comfort and (b) the wire's ability to gain leverage against your ribcage, and having a slim fingerwidth of space between the wire and breast root on the outside does not necessarily interfere with either of those goals. If it does, you will be able to tell!

  • Thanks! Yeah, seeing the imprints from the fitting bras would help a lot. Since all I have is a small bit of empty fabric at the sides and the pinching feeling is gone, I think I'll leave it for now and look at some more U shaped bras when I can.

I think I am still dealing with the "I have weird boobs" thing a bit, so I question a lot. At least I am learning, right? I see ill fitting bras everywhere I go now! One day, when I have my bras sorted out, I may even approach my MIL about her "36C". :D
