Trying to help my friend

I have a dear friend of 15 years who is constantly having problems with breaking the wires on Freya "Decos"(4234). She can't afford buying bras very often, so she always has only bra that she wears, day after day, never rotating and rarely washes. A Deco only lasts her not more than 6 months before a wire breaks.
O.k, so just last week she broke another underwire in her latest Deco. She has no money for a new one. So she went to Walmart and bought a piece of crap bra for 10$. It is a 40D "Curvations". It doesn't come close to fitting her. (she showed me). The bra's gore doesn't tack and floats. She is spilling out all over the place and it looks horrible on her. She tells me it was the closest size they had and bought it only out of desperation.
So trying to help her, I gathered up a few of the largest size bras I could find in my bra drawers to see if I had something that would work better for her. My Elomi Caitlyn (8030) 38E was the best fitting one of them all. So I gladly gave it to her.She put it on so I could see. It is a lot better than the 10$ Walmart bra.The 38 band fits ok on the loosest hook. And the center gore tacks pretty good. But the cups are wrong for her.She has a kind of quad-boob thing going on. The cups are too small and and not the right shape for her boobs.
I told her how Bratabase could help her find bras with cups that fit her shape. I told her I would help her take her measurements so she could sign up. She is stubborn and doesn't want to. I think she isn't comfortable with me measuring her and I can understand that.
So I was thinking about printing up the "measurement pages" from here at Bratabase so she could take her own measurements and I would submit them for her and help get an account set up for her.
Does this sound like a good idea or should I just mind my own bussiness? Any ideas or thoughts on this?

  • I think it's good you suggested the site to her, but I wouldn't push it if she really doesn't want to sign up. I definitely wouldn't set up an account for her, it's something she should do.

What might be good is to send her links to reviews that are within her size range. That way she gets to see the measurements of the bras and people's thoughts on them. It might give her an incentive to join or even just to think about her own measurements, which could lead into finding a better fitting bra.

Although, I think the main issue is why do her wires keep breaking? Is it the way she's washing and handling them or is the fit just way off that it's causing too much stress on the wires?

  • Maybe your friend's wires are breaking because of metal fatigue. She is, after all, wearing the same bra day after day after day.

You could casually mention there are bra giveaways on Bratabase sometimes, but you have to be a member to participate. I'd only do this if she starts being more open to your suggestions. There's little point trying to help someone who is closed off. Another reason to wait to see if her attitude improves is the giveaways are intended, in part, to expand the data in Bratabase. I find it annoying to give a bra to someone who doesn't enter it into Bratabase after she receives it.
