Challenged a shop to fit me ;)

Ok, today I tried the undercover bra fitting in Utrecht, The Netherlands at the SandraBra store. Spontaneous visit. Pretending to know not much about fit, of course.
This store is generally very highly recommended especially for the small-back-large-cup women.
My experience: meh. Very friendly service, and if I knew less about fitting myself I would have bought.
BUT, the fitting was not great.
I walked in saying I was wearing a super old bra and needed replacement. No size, I forgot if I cut the label out or not. I was wearing an Ulla Dessous bra, one of the largest cups that much I knew.
So, eyeballing it, the fitter/saleswoman got me a 85k I think.
Quickly discovered that the bra I was wearing (my purple Ulla) was size 75K, so told her that.
85 immediately became 80, and I got to try on several Ulla Dessous, Fantasie and Elomi bras. As far as I recognized them they were Ulla Elise, Elomi Caitlyn and no idea Fantasie.
They all fitted badly of course, though the fitter was very positive about them.
I repeatedly told her the band felt like it was riding up, and she told me no it does not, look it stays in place.
So I mentioned the center gore, which was never ever flush against my sternum although it came close in one (the 80N Ulla, I think). I asked if it was meant to be that way, I thought it had to be against the skin. "With larger boobs it's much more difficult to get it that way" was her answer, and bender the wires a bit so the tips pointed inward. Riiiight...
Well, after MUCH saying the band felt so loose I got the Elomi Caitlyn in 75K. No Ulla in stock in 75.
Told her the band felt much firmer now. Cups wrinkled everywhere it seemed, especially the under- and back side. "Well that isn't visible under clothing anyway". Yea, but when you know it's there it doesn't feel good! The center gore wasn't flush here either, so the extra scooping didn't help a bit.
When I pulled the band at my back, asking if I maybe needed a 70 band in this one the answer was a short "it doesn't come in 70". Well yeah I know, I'm trying to get you to grab me a 70 band!
In the end I didn't buy anything. Was told I needed a 75band from either brand, 75K for Elomi, 75L for Ulla. The Fantasie was quickly discarded, btw.
They did not have any 75 or 70 bands in stock for Ulla, but could get them. I'd need a 70N then, but the fitter's voice made it pretty clear she doubted I'd fit a 70.

Soooo... pretty good overall fitting, I guess, but not quite as outstanding as I'd expected from a store so highly recommended for small-back-large-cup!
And yes, I do need a 70 (32) band, at least those cups!

Idea for JJ: Make a review-section for shops so we can post this kind of stuff in a separate section :)

  • hint hint ;) there was one in 2008, didn't have time to finish... >_<. it is a bit of a delicate subject regarding bad reviews.

I'd have to agree. Even a good shop can have bad fitters, and a bad shop can have good fitters. Both owners and employees change all the time.
