pregnancy

So this is my 3rd pregnancy but first one knowing my proper size. With the last I just wore soft cup granny bras in sizes like 40DD (even though Im a 30gg!) As you can imagine, I got NO lift or shape and hated the way they looked, but my 36DD didnt fit (yes, that is the size I "thought" I was). So what do I do about changing breasts size? I cant afford to buy new bras every 2 or 3 months (baby due in march). Im only 5 weeks and my bras are getting snug in the cup already. I went from about a 30g/gg with my son to a 32j/jj by the end of my pregnancy (they never went back down so I got a reduction). With my daughter I went up 3 cup sizes at least....so I know I'll definitely grow with this one. Any experience or advice welcomed!

  • Congratulations! Personally despite having been in well-fitting bras pretty much my whole life, I still found there was no easy foolproof way to navigate the prego bra situation. Every pregnancy is different and every woman is going to have different needs, so you have to play it by ear.

I found that underwired nursing bras were pretty comfortable to wear during pregnancy also, and many have rather stretchy cup material so they accommodate some expansion. Using extenders can allow you to wear 30 band nursnig bras during pregnancy and/or buy you some time before you have to change to a different bra again. I liked Elle McPherson's nonwired maternity bras for the end of pregnancy when the boobs are pretty much just sitting on the bump anyway. I got them in 2007/8 but they were relatively easy to find on special back then.

If you have a short torso like me, you'll have noticed by now that your ribcage expands fairly early on because the uterus doesn't have a lot of height to expand into before it hits the bottom of your ribcage--so you'll probably need to use extenders or get some 32 band bras before long.

  • I feel your pain! I also have been through 3 pregnancies and nursed 3 babies. I started at a 32h and got to a 36j at my biggest. I'm back to a 32h now (although a much sadder 32h). I'm a planner and absolutely hate the unknown, especially when I live in a small town where nursing bras do not exist in my size. I have a couple nursing bras for sale if u r interested. I found buying a nursing bra with a ton of stretch (like the Anita I have listed) got me through the first 6 weeks after the baby was born. They r not the most flattering bras but the stretch is so needed at the beginning when u fluctuate so much. When my babe was 6 months I could fit into my old bras so I sewed some nursing clips on them, they gave much better shape than any nursing bras I tried.
