Any Swimwear Advice? jan 12, 2014

Anyone seen any good blog posts on swimwear or have anything helpful? I am more comfortable in a tankini or one piece. Especially in the pool with the 3 kids climbing over me. Sometimes one pieces are hard because I have a long torso.

I tried a freya tankini that was ok on the chest, but too fitted- so it rolled up a bit to my waist. I am 36g, wear a US 18 dress, with a 32 inch waist but 50 inch hips (hoping to work down to 46 by summer, but still will be hourglassy enough to have trouble if tankinis are too fitted downstairs).

The Elomi swim seems like it flares out more like an empire waisted shirt, but they don't have integral bras- instead you use their separate swim bras with the suits. Has anyone tried them? I have narrow roots so have avoided Elomi, but maybe the swim bras are narrower?

Or possibly ideas for a cute swim coverup for my size range that can be in the chlorine all day like a swimsuit?

  • I have a Fantasie tankini (the Helsinki, one of the models with drawstring-adjustable sides) that fits loosely around the hips, without looking like an empire top. It's not super-fitted through the waist (note hat I have it in a too loose 32 band where I should at most be wearing a 30), but it still has enough shape to be flattering. It's also nice and long through the body so that it really covers the entire belly. For reference: I have a a long lower torso and natural 17" hip spring (25" waist, 42" hips) which makes almost everything creep up into my waist and one-piece swimsuits an absolute no-go.

  • I have an Elomi swim bra in purple and i wear it under a regular tankini I bought. Then I had a lightbulb moment. You can buy any bikini top in your size and get any swimsuit to go over it. For me the Elomi is super comfortable and supportive. I wear a 34H typically so I got the 36GG since they don't make it in 34. Even though the band is a little big it works fine as a swimsuit. You dont need the same fit requirements in a swimsuit as you would a bra. It gives a great shape and stays in place even after lots of swimming. Its a relief to not feel like my boobs could fall out of my swimsuit at anytime. I recommend getting a black bikini top in the brand of your choice then you can save money on getting any tankini that matches. It opens up all those cute but non supportive tankinis that you couldn't get before.
