Australia. Why do bras start at a band size of 32. It is truly annoying. I am a 28G (my under band measures around 25 inches) but I often have to buy 32E's and sew them in at the back to create a 28FF/G

To top things off there is this assumption in a lot of lingerie stores that if you are above a DD your breasts will enter the store first. Meaning, you will look enormous and like you are about to topple over.

I went into a store on the weekend looking for bargains. Tried on a 32F and it fit perfectly in the cup with perfect full round shape. Unfortunately the straps on the 32F I tried on were half elastic and half fabric and wouldn't adjust short enough to sit on my shoulders. I told the lady, no problem, i can sew them shorter.

Instead the sales lady was trying to tell me that the straps were too long because it was the wrong cup size. I needed to try the 32DD's.
She then took me over to the 32 DD's and kept saying this will fit you its a really large style. Funny but I was wearing the style she was showing me in an E cup already and there is no way I would fit in any of those DD's.

I'm so sick of people not believing what size I wear. It makes me embarrassed to actually tell the truth when the sales lady asks. What is a letter anyway. It means nothing. I couldn't care less what I wear, I just need the thing to fit.

These days with padded bras, water bras and the like, you can never tell what size a woman is and often C cup women will wear bras that make them look porn star huge. If I wanted to, I could make my breasts look like porn star breasts in a super padded bra. However, I choose not to. Because of this people just presume I couldn't possibly be a 28G.

Why does society feel the need to classify and judge women's breasts. When I walk into a store to buy a pair of shoes no-one ever questions or looks at me strange when I tell them my shoe size. No-one cares. So why do people care about the tiny little label on my bra.

Sorry for this rant but its cathartic to get it out. Maybe you can relate?

  • well said. Ultimately, if a 36DD fitted instead of a 30H, i'd wear it with no questions asked!
The myths surrounding bra sizing are saddening and upsetting, as women who want to wear a good bra size often get looked at like they have three heads (or boobs!)

So frustrating, i like on-line shopping in that respect, because no one asks funny questions or guesses you to be 6 sizes off your real size.

  • @cbear. It's not like we are celebrities or anything. Why should people even care. Online shopping is a life saver. Without it I'd be braless.
