Wedding Woes

My sister got married yesterday, which was definitely a situation for rejoicing and a great deal of fun, except for the normal quandry as someone who is very full busted of 'what on earth can I wear?' Very simply, it's incredibly difficult to find clothing which is cut for a 14-15" difference between your underbust and your bust, even when considering full bust options.

Thankfully, I had a dress in my cupboard which I wore to a wedding last year. I tried it on a few weeks out from the event, and everything seemed to be fine. I was contained, I wasn't flattened, the seams weren't in a disastrous position. This was good enough for me. Lo and behold though, I put the dress on yesterday, and suddenly I have dress quadboob! It was cutting in on top of my breasts, especially my left breast (which I thought was the smaller one but may be the bigger one now, who knows?). A normal cover-up solution would be to put on a little jacket of some description, but I didn't have anything that was really dressy enough for a wedding. I didn't think that a cardigan would really cut it. Thankfully, my long hair came to the rescue. By artistically draping it over the top of my breasts, you couldn't tell the dress was cutting in. Still, I did end up spending most of the afternoon/evening fussing with my hair.

I wore my 65L - Ewa Michalak ยป Pl Toffik (151), and when I was fussing with my zipper on the dress, I felt/heard something go pop. I did check the back of the bra, and all 3 hooks seemed to be fastened, so I figured it was just my imagination. As the day went on, I felt more cutting in than usual, so I was glad to get home and take off my bra. It turns out that somehow I managed to distort the bottom hook, and the whole weight of my breasts was being held up by the tiny strip of elastic on the bottom. I think I plain don't have enough taper in my back to wear EM bras. Despite the great cup shape, I think we may be fundamentally incompatible. I certainly don't plan to wear that bra again if I can possibly help it. Fun fact- you really don't want to have 4+ kg of breast mass held in place by one tiny strip of elastic. I have some form of indentation/carpet burn type thing under my breasts even nearly 24 hours later.

The great hero of the day was my hair. Thanks hair. I really owe you one.

  • What do you mean by "taper" in your back? If you mean the band is not strong enough all over, maybe you can sew a piece of fabric over the length and width of the band that is elastic too. A seamstress did that with a bra I let her take in, and it was much more comfortable and supportive than if it had had only the two pieces of elastic on the top an the bottom of the band.

  • Myrabella - what happens when I wear the bra is that the base of the band is snug, but I actually have little gaps up the top at the sides of the bra. I thought it was a strap placement issue initially, but then I moved the straps and I still have a baggy top section. You can stick your fingers in the gaps between the bra and my torso without touching skin.

I theorise that it must be more common amongst Polish/Eastern European women to have a back which is more 'v' shaped than my own. My back is almost straight up and down until you hit my hips.
