Elomi bra underwire slippage

Issue with Elomi bras - I have a brown plaidish @Elomi bra (8510blk) in 38H, which is the size I seem to be at least temporarily at, having gone from a 42DD to a 42G to a 38H. I suspect I'm a 36I, but the sales lady did everything in her power, including refusing to check to see if she could find bras for me in that size, so who knows? I weigh 260 pounds and the band and straps do dig in but *they don't hurt.* I have very soft and squishable fat, so I need the tighter band. (I mean, if I put my arm under a powerful bathroom hand dryer the fat will actually flow back up my arm, it's that squishable and liquid. Freaky stuff.)

Anyway, the problem is this: my lovely Elomi bra has a slipping underwire. The damn thing is 3 weeks old. I noticed my gore wasn't tacking any more, took off the bra, and figured out the left underwire had sunk from the middle and ridden up on the sides. I slid it through the fabric channel so the underwire was where it was supposed to be and put it on, but doing so made the wire slip again. This makes it so that one of my boobs is slightly higher and the other one moves slightly to the side. It's enough for me to notice. I can't seem to fix it. In terms of care, I wear it once, let it rest a day, wear it again, then hand-wash it, and let it drip-dry.

Is this a serious problem? Are Elomi bras known for this? How can I fix it? Are there other things I should look out for?

Also, are there other recommended bra brands/models for girls in a 38H/36I?

  • I'm having trouble picturing the problem. Would it be possible to hand-stitch along the channel so the wire cannot slip?

Also, Elomi uses UK sizing, so the sister size of a 38H would be 36HH. That could be part of the reason you're having trouble finding the right size!

  • There's the fabric channel at the base of the bra in which the underwire sits. The channel is a little less than an inch longer than the underwire, so the underwire on the left side is slipping around in the channel. Instead of the end of the underwire filling the end of the channel where the gore is, it slips around until the other end of the wire fills the end of the channel under my arm, distorting the gore. I don't know if it would be possible to hand-stitch along the channel so the wire couldn't slip. Do you think that's the problem?

As for the sizing, I think that companies that simply add letters to band sizes instead of going up the alphabet are really lame. If they're trying to make me feel better about my size, they're failing. I would much rather be in an "I" cup bra than in an "HH" cup bra, especially since an "HH" cup bra IS an "I" cup bra. It would be lovely if people standardized this stuff instead of hemming and hawing and adding unnecessary letters and inches to their bands.
