After gaining weight during the pandemic, none of my bras fit me. Not even my backup “fat” bra. Does not everyone have a “fat” bra? A spare bra that maybe we got when trying different sizes, one which didn’t fit, but we keep it around for our bloated days or laundry day? Just me?

My old tried and true bras are too tight around the band, but also half of my tissue is overflowing on top. So I’m back to square one. No idea what size I am, and probably going to have to try a bunch of different sizes to figure it out. I just don’t have the funds for that anymore…

I don’t plan on keeping this pandemic weight forever, so I’ve been dragging my feet on buying a new bra. But in the meantime, I literally have no bras, and I’m the type of shape that *needs* one when I leave the house. So I just haven’t been leaving the house. Adding to the pandemic weight problem…. It’s a conundrum.

Bratabase tells me I’ve only increased in band size, but I have a sneaking suspicion that I’ve probably increased several cup sizes too. I honestly don’t know, and it will take a lot of tries to figure out.
Biggest problem I’m having now - is that all the bras I’m finding on here are discontinued. Even when I say “hide discontinued” when I go to the shops website, the bra is gone.
Or, if I go up to the cup size I most likely will need, available options drops . This is already discouraging, let alone the financial stress.

  • When I was losing weight I got a few cheap options from ebay, poshmark, mercari, facebook groups, etc. to wear when I had to leave the house. Some of those are only available in the US so availability will depend on your location. Once my measurements were consistent for a few months I saved up to buy a bunch of bras. By then I had a good idea of shape and styles that would work. I now have a few bras in bigger sizes I keep around for weight/hormonal fluctuations.

  • I recently had to replace my whole bra wardrobe due to being perimenopausal and my bust increasing despite no weight changes. It sucks having to spend the money. I keep a bra band expander on hand if I’m having bloat days, when I do get a period, and need that extra space in the band. My bras have stretch lace on the upper cup, so they’re more forgiving when I’m up a cup. I also keep a few sleep bras on hand that accommodate a wide range of size change +/-. Second-hand market is great for low cost purchasing when trying to find a new fit or size. Check out bra swaps on line to see if anyone wants to swap?
