I'm thinking of sewing bras to get them to fit. From what I read online it's easy enough and once you've done it you never want to buy one again. It feels a bit intimidating because I don't sew much, so just getting the material would be a project, and I probably need a size (30GG) that doesn't come in the patterns I've found. I'm going to do a little more research on what I need first. Anyone done it?

  • Do you have any bras that fit you or *almost* fit you? If so, you could use those bras as a template. I haven't done it exactly, but I am in the middle of making a bralette :) Not the flimsiest kind, so it's somewhat similar I guess. I'm making mine with 3 hooks and a leotard back. Since I'm a total noob at sewing I decided NOT to buy power net or anything like that for my first project, I'm simply using jersey fabric, a rather strong one though so it might be enough for me support-wise (I don't have very big boobs and they're quite self-supporting). I would recommend doing a test-bra first if you're totally new to sewing like I am, however, if you're a little more experienced, you could probably go straight at it :)

  • I have a 32FF that fits well enough to give some clues about my correct fit but I wouldn't want to base a new bra on it. My best lead so far is to shorten the strap on a pattern for a 32G. Hopefully I won't have to. This link has a couple and I think G=H. http://www.bramakerssupply.com/site2009/cart/shopdisplayproducts.asp?id=7&cat=Full+Band

Are you using a pattern for your bralette? I was thinking of making one of those too, but without hooks. Making it long in the back sounds like a really good idea. I'm shallow and firmish so it might work even though I'm out of their normal size range, but it would take an elastic fabric and I've never used that. It seems like something you could wing if you had to. Or try and get frustrated. ;)

I rarely sew but I knit a lot so I'm used to learning by doing (over and over), so I think I can do it. But at my level of sewings I would have to know exactly what the goal is before I start... :)

And hey, it's fun that there are others doing it too!
