Dress Cup Size is NOT Bra Cup Size!

I have had multiple people in the past ask me if dress cup sizes are the same as bra cup sizes: the answer is NO!

I'm trying to get a feel for the amount of correlation between dress cup size and bra cup size, so if you feel comfortable, please comment below with your most commonly worn bra size and your dress cup size.

  • Interesting... I've never actually seen a dress that had cup sizes lol

  • Does this still work if you have a lot of breast tissue at armpit level? I measure 40" overbust and 43" full bust in my EM FBs, but it seems ludicrous that I would need a C cup dress size when I'm wearing a 70L. So much of that measurement is around the front of me that even though my measurements are pretty close to a 'standard' pattern size (about a 18 or 20 in big 4 patterns theoretically with a small FBA; pattern sizes are so much smaller than regular clothing sizes) the fit of the patterns is totally wrong. I end up with a giant back and clothes which pull and gape at the armpit if I use this idea of sizing. My mum and I are still working on a decent sloper pattern for me which seems to be the only way I'm going to get nicely fitted garments for my top half. There's just not a lot of wisdom out there about sewing or pattern alterations for a very large bust.
