Original problem
The lace is loose on the top of this otherwise amazingly fitting bra. Are the cups too tall? Do you think I would benefit from going down a size or would that create other fit issues?

Idk, the fit looks pretty good. I can only just barely notice some small gaping on the top of one cup (right side) from the front.
On a personal note, I think I lost just just a tiny bit of weight, and I notice a bit of gaping at the top of the cups for a soft bra - that formerly I didn't have that problem. (Gorsenia Vera https://www.bratabase.com/bra/dnpen/) Now, I still wear the bra, with gaping (it doesn't show under clothes) previously, I didn't have that issue. But I guess with wear and/or weight loss, it can sometimes evolve to show some gaping at the top, even with a soft bra. It doesn't bother me personally, BUT everyone has a different shape, different breast firmness, whatever.

I’m actually short lol! I’m only 5’3” on a good day. My concern is if I keep this one and end up losing even more weight (and stop breast pumping for my baby), it’ll just be even bigger. :/ I think if the cups were quite as tall, it would be a great fit! But for some reason the cups on this one measure a whole inch taller than the Bibi Black one I tried.
