Bra fitting help » Why does this bra fit?
Torrid » Lace Demi Bra » 42DD 42:5
This bra is a 42DD. I took the band in, and now it fits almost perfectly. I usually wear around a 38G in British bras, but shouldn't this be like a 38F now? In other news, Torrid makes the most comfortable bras. The lining on the cups is so soft, the cup height is perfect for me, and the depth is wonderful.

helpfulIt's very possible that the bra runs big. There is a massive lack of consistency in sizing, especially in mainstream lingerie companies. I think that is partially due to incorrect sizing practices, and bra companies simply labeling bras that are not even close to the measurements a properly sized women would wear. Meaning that a 36B bra has far more projection and often a stretchier band than a women with a 36 inch underbust and 38 inch bust would need. I would imagine that's why this bra fits you.

helpfulBecause you did a really good job on the band. It looks perfect. Wow. A+! Maybe the depth of the cups is a G cup. I usually think of F or FF cups having a depth of 9 or 10. ? I though G cups were usually 11" in depth. Idk I will check. You did a beautiful job on that bra.

Well thank you! I just winged it because I didn't feel like looking for a tutorial.

You definitely have a gift for it I could see you as a really good seamstress which is what I want to do that and bra designing.

Here's an example of measurements of a 38F:

You're so sweet! I'm no seamstress, but I do alterations on a lot of my clothes. Good luck in the seamstressing and designing world!

Thank you. Just being honest. I need to alter the bands on some of my bras too. I want to re learn the sewing machine. :D
-
You're welcome! I hope you have a better sewing machine than I do. I think mine's a SewMini. Awful. So slow and I'm always breaking needles.

Wow that makes what you did even more amazing. A SewMini?!? just think what you could do on a good sewing machine!

helpfulUK and US sizes aren't the same. Not just the actual sizes, but the volume differences between one letter and the next are different. I think it looks great on you! I love how Cacique has really stepped up their game the last few years.

Are Torrid bras Cacique? All Cacique bras I've tried have been crazy wide.

helpfulThere is no actual sizing standard in bras. None at all. There is one in Europe but it only specifies measurement around the bust and around the ribcage, nothing else. The actual room in the band, the depth in the cup etc is all up to the manufacturer. So, really, there is no standard. The size on the tag is basicly just an indication for which size the manufacturer thought the bra would fit on.
I need like 10+ different sizes depending on brand and model (!). It is not uncommon with such a wide span at all...

Thanks! I wasn't sure what was going on, because it shouldn't fit, but it does. It's good to know I have another option for bras now.
