Issue resolved
bras dont fit me thank you all for your help
Original problem
Hi,
I am still struggling to find a 36B that fits, even though thats my measured size. This is one I was fit into at Dillards. Does it look ok in the back band and cups? I am about to give up wearing bras. I get backfat in all 36B but supposedly 38A is too big?

helpfulHave you tried a 34 Band? I am sure there will be other bratabase members who can give you more advise.. But looking at your underbust measurement and the band length of that bra, It is too big I would think. Of course if you were to try a 34 band, you would need to go up in cupsize.(sister sizing).. I am still learning myself on fit issues, so don't want to advise wrongly and I am sure there are others who can give you better assessment on cup sizing etc. but as I said I think the band is too big.

I understand. I measure not dissimilar to you around- actually probably slightly more and wear between a 34-36 band(sometimes 38 if the bra band runs small).. From reading alot, backfat can actually be worse when the band is too large, rather than if it was too small.
And you are right it can be confusing!! Good luck finding a solution that works for you. :)

helpfulI'm not very savvy with this, as I too am still learning, but my 34 bands give me back fat too because, well, I'm a bit squishy. I don't think every single woman is going to have a perfectly flat back from the right size bra... but I could be wrong, and this might not be your issue either.

helpfulHave you tried to smoothen it out? to swoop your back fat under the band and to the front?
Also, funny thing: a faar too big band does nothing, a too big band makes bulging, a tight band often doesn't.This is because a loose but tight enough band will be pushed by the fat in one place, because it is not tight enough to stay at its place. Mostly this will be next to some bulge where it won't need to stretch out as far as at the place where it is supposed to be.
If the band gets tighter, it pushes against the bulging and keeps it flat under the band, this does not always work, but it is a myth that a tight band alone is the cause of bulging back fat.Updated on February 20, 2013 Flag this

i have that fat even without the bra.hmmm..
-
would you say then the band is too big?

You will need to try several sizes to find out the right for you. Compare the same bra style to see the differences between the sizes. If you order online, just try 34C and 36B, perhaps even 34D and 36C. At the moment it is unsure which size will be right.
How much can you stretch this one out with the cups on your back? -
HI,
Not sure how to stretch it with the cups on my back?
-
To all,
Bra unstretched is 30 inches, stretched 36. I can pull out the band 1 inch to almost two inches with cups on my back. will post pic after adjusting myself. This bra in a 34 band wont close on me.
-
stick with the 36 for now. different brands make different stretching bras though same size, but its a good starting point i think :)
-
I had a pic showing how far the cup goes under my underarm so I could ask you about cup size, but it got rejected. I know I will be different sizes in other bras. Should I try 34s in some brands? This bra seems to overall be a good fit I think.
-
You will have to try all those 4 sizes at the beginning, when you try nice fits. This bra still isnt anything special, bras can do better on you :)

helpfulI think this bra looks quite good on you. And if those measurements you posted below are correct I'd say this bra band is fine for you, that is, if you think it FEELS fine.
Smaller, shallower and/or relatively less heavy breasts can sometimes get away with somewhat looser bands so the 'you shouldn't be able to pull the band that far from your body' is not a rule set in stone. A bra band only has to be as tight as NEEDED, not as tight as POSSIBLE. If it doesn't ride up, cut in, or feels in uncomfortable or not supportive in any other way, really, then it's fine.
Also, don't get hung up on the numbers, they only serve as a starting point. Different brands and models all fit differently. you might measure as a 36B, but in one brand/model you might be 38A, in another 34C, in a third something else altogether. If you have the possibility, always try out a range of sizes, both cup and band wise.
As to back fat: if it isn't affected by proper 'swooping and scooping' (which I think is usually considered more effective in combination with a properly fitting underwired bra) it might be just that, back fat. But whatever it is, it really doesn't look too bad to me. If it really bothers you though, you could try looking for bras with wider bands or perhaps consider light shapewear. Open-bust torsettes like the ones by Maidenform on this page http://www.maidenform.com/shapewear/styles/camisoles--tops/?sort=&sortBy=&searchTerm=categoryid%3a1000144%2cnull&pageSize=999¤tPage=0 are effective (especially in combination with proper 'swooping and scooping'), inconspicuous and not necessarily uncomfortable.

Hi MilkAndHoney,
Thank you, and you are right on all your points. I do have a 38a that fits, just I noticed that several I only bought a month ago, I could suddenly fit my whole hand behind and hook on the tightest set of hooks within that month. Thats what caused me to get re-sized where all the fitters agreed my 38A no longer cut it in all the bras.
Some of my backfat honestly seems natural, and as you can see in the second pic, its less noticeable when I stand up straight. One company said its migrated breast tissue from never weaing the right size, but that only their bras could fix my issue.
This bra does not dig in or ride up, it feels the best of the bras i had pictured on this site.
I do have very wide-set breasts, and am wondering if it may be worth a shot to try some brands I have found online that are specially made for this issue?
-
Would anyone have any suggestions for wide-set breasts? I saw some styles that say they work better for wide set breasts. Would they be worth a try?

helpfulare you talking about the fat under the bra band? is it there when you don't have a bra on?
If that is the fat that you are asking about, it looks as though it is probably just where you fold when you sit down / bend over etc...

HI,
Yes, I mean the fat under that band. I think since I was taking a picture of myself with a webcam, it affected how I stand, and I do seem to have that fat without a bra on.
-
when i bend my arm to look at myself in the mirror , using a second mirror over my shoulder type thing, i always have a little fat where you do - i think it is probably normal and nothing too serious. i guess if you diet it might go away, but you certainly don't look over weight, so i think it is mostly the postion of taking the picture - can you ask someone else to photograph your back for you with only a bra / no bra and see if the fat is still visable when you are standing normally without your arms bending to take photos!?
-
HI,
I took one more photo that was accepted, one rejected. The second photo shows where I properly adjusted the bra and I also was standing up straighter. Your thoughts are most welcome.

helpfulI don't think it looks like you have much back-fat here. Really, I don't. You do have some in-and-out at the side, but it looks like the that's how your body is anyway. I think you will need to expect bras to look similar to this in the back on you.
Secondly, have you measured this bra correctly? If the band length without stretching the bra at all is 1½ inch bigger than your ribcage measurement then this bra should litterally be falling of your body, or, if you have the straps up, just slide up like crazy. Are you sure you have measured the unstretched-band length without stretching at all?
If the bra actually measures 36" unstretched, then you probably need a smaller band size. In general you should probably wear a 34 or 36 band, sometimes a 38 in extremly tight bands, but between a 34 and 36 in general. The unstretched band length needs to be smaller than your ribcage though, so that you have some tension that will keep your bra in place.

HI,
Thanks to all for your help. I am going to re-measure that bra when I get home, as I probably have the measurement wrong. I dont know if I get that backfat without a bra on. Am I allowed to post a pic of just my back? I think there is some squidge there without the bra, and also, trying to take a picture of myself affects how I stand and also may affect how I look. My problem is, I am told 38A is too big on my based on how far I can pull back the band alone, which is about 4-5 inches, and I can pull a 38A band out three inches in front at the center gore. But if I go a size down, to 36B, then I get the side/backfat. I am squishy and really dont have curves. It seems I have a trade-off here. Go with a band supposedly too big, and look better, or go with the smaller one that supposedly fits but slightly squeezes in.What would be my best bet? I have had no less than 5 different bra places tell me to ditch my 38A? I have some pics in my profile of the 38A, would you be able to look at those? They show how far I can pull that bra out, and thats only after two months of wear.

helpfulWhat is your overbust measurement?

i come up with 37 but when bra ladies measure me they say 36
-
I would try a 34 C, and make sure you are scooping all the tissue into the cup, that should help with a 34 band feeling too tight.
-
a 34 wont even close on me, and i have another fit request where someone said that bra shows I have backfat, and its same size. I was told for years I am a 38a and now, even though i measure the same, they say 36b, and I think its too small. underbust measure 35 some days. i dont get backfat in my 38 but I can also pull the band 4 inches back which i am told is too loose. Thank you for your suggestion though, bra fitting is so confusing!
