Issue resolved
30 band may or may not be too tight on my 31.2" underbust. Found out I was scooping and swooping wrong, and remeasured. Clocking in somewhere around a 30J now, going into a proper lingerie store to get remeasured. :3
Original problem
The center gore digs in and leaves a nasty mark from rubbing. In addition, back fat rolls holy moly. I'm swooping and scooping and all that good stuff... EDIT: After googling, I'm scooping and swooping wrong. Hello quad boob. Photos upcoming. Does this even fit? My measurements say I'm supposed to be a 30H, which is what this bra is. The band feels wonderful and tight, two fingers and no more under the band. Help me?
Edit again: This, after being shown some photos, is clearly an Emily not a Portia! Despite my bra band label saying it's a Portia :3 Photo included for laughs.
In other news, I've thrown in the towel, and making a trip into a lingerie specialty store to get proper sized. Theoretically they should have bras in my new theoretical range of 30J?? Thanks for the help all!

helpfulI think band 30 is too tight for you - this is why the centre gore digs in and underwire is almost on your back. ( Bra on your photos is Emily, not Portia)

helpfulHi!
I do not comment on the overall fit, because I think I´m not qualified to do that but one comment I do have.
I find that CK wires dig in very badly!! I have 3 CK bras, okay they are not fitting very good, but are wearable after some modifications. Anyway, the wires were killers in the center right from the beginning!!! They were not too far apart in the sternum area and they were wide enough. After I bended them heavily (in the center, I bended the ends away from my body) I have been able to wear the bras comfortably!!BTW, how does one swoop and scoop in a wrong way..? Do you have the links you found with google?

helpfulWe're all more than just a cup and band size All bras come in different shapes and sizes, so even if you measure as 30H by the formula, that's not necessarily what will fit you- it's just a starting point. (I know, the lingerie industry's just a bunch of stinkers, right? Why can't they make this easier?)
First off, from the measurements you posted, it looks like that bra is a pretty deep 30H. 30H's I've encountered have run anywhere from 9 inches to 13 inches in depth. It's a pretty big range! When you shop for other bras, you should pay close attention to the measurements; they vary a lot from model to model and brand to brand.
Your edit about the scooping and swooping confirmed what I thought might be the case when I glanced at the photos- you probably need a cup size up. Maybe even two! It's hard to tell without more photos.
Sometimes having the wrong cup size can cause the underwires to do crazy things; poking in your sternum and armpits are fairly common. But sometimes it's just that the bra isn't made for your particular shape. You're a similar size to me, and if you're a similar shape too, this bra's underwires might be too wide (because of a narrow breast root) or they might come up too high (can be a sign of low-set breasts or, in my case, just being short and not having a lot of torso.)
In any case, post more photos so we can get to the root of this problem, and don't settle! If any part of the bra is uncomfortable, you'll grow to hate it eventually, and it won't be good for your body either. You deserve comfy bras

I just have to say I love your remark that we're more than a cup and bra size. Nothing--well, hardly anything--irritates me more than when women refer to themselves or other women as *being* a bra size.
-
So I just remeasured at a 31.2" under and 43.3" overbust, which is a fair bit different from the way I measured a couple months ago. Other people have been saying maybe I should go up a band size, but 32's seem to be too loose on me, I get a lot of stretch. Theoretically my (new) measurements say a 30J, does that look/sound right? Do you think that's why the 30 band is digging in at the gore?
-
KDycu, I know what you mean about the band just feeling too big. I wear 30's sometimes, which is alright, but I just don't feel as comfortable and secure as in a 28!
Comparing to this bra, I would say either a 30HH or 30J (I always wonder why most brands skip a letter there- maybe just because it looks like a lowercase L or a 1?) But we won't know for sure until you try it on! :)

helpfulI wonder if you'd be more comfortable in a 32 band. If your underbust is 31.8 inches a 30 band its likely going to be too tight and it looks like that is the case for a couple of reasons. The fabric of the back band is clearly strained, and it looks like it is cutting into you pretty badly. It's also distorting the wire so that it's stretched out on the sides. I'm a little surprised that it's not uncomfortable in places other than the center gore. It's impossible to say how the cup fits until you get the band right, but it doesn't look far off.

I just remeasured and come in at a 31.2" underbust, should I get a 32 band?
-
Probably so. Even without knowing what the tape measure says, the bra in the pictures is too tight for you.
-
Hrmm. I've tried 32's on in the past and there's like a TON of stretch. Granted, it was a Freya, which as I understand are known for particularly stretchy bands but, still I could pull away like a good 4" or 5"...
-
That may very well be true, but you're not trying to fit that bra right now. You're trying to fit this one. I guess you could try different cup sizes in a 30 band if you want.
-
I think the cups are definitely too small. The band size you choose depends on your comfort and preference for a tight band. Since you're in between sizes and find 32 bands too loose, you should wear 30 bands unless they cause you discomfort.
-
Haha, really? The tag inside the bra says Portia! I just remeasured and come in at a 31.2" underbust, should I get a 32 band?
