Girl friends. Aren't they so fantastic? Hanging out together, sipping wine, chatting. Lovely. Like a good bra, they are supportive and wonderful. Except when their underwire sticks out.
I'm new to my search for a properly fitting bra. I've only tried one in my size range so far, but I'm making another purchase this weekend and I'm PSYCHED. And I've started ... looking for a properly fitting swim suit top as summer is fast approaching in Australia. I came across the Fantasie Versailles Twist Front Tankini and it's pretty much exactly what I'm looking for... Except that the cheapest I can find it here in Australia is $130.
So I was having a good cathartic whine to my friend, who asked to see what I was looking at, so I sent her a link, and told her the colour and that I was looking at a 34-36G/GG.
As a bit of background, I've told her about Bratabase and /r/abrathatfits and shown her what I've learned, but she's perfectly happy in what she currently wears, so I've decided to just let it be.
But when I told her the size range, she just said "I really don't think you're a 34G. We're pretty much the same with our upper bodies, and I wear a 38-40 so I don't get back fat. And if you went up numbers, you could come down cup sizes."
Well. Kudos to her for understanding that cup sizes are not static. But how frustrating! Especially because I tried to explain that I've had 38's and whereas no, they don't give me back fat, they also don't stay in place, and that's not supporting me properly, but the argument just kind of escalated. Over the fact that I'm trying to find a bra that fits and supports me properly.
The argument more or less finished with her saying, "You're not a G cup, lol. You just haven't found the right bra."
AHHHH!!!! I've already given up on the idea of "bravangelising" her, but this turned into a legitimate argument over how I can't possibly be the size my measurements say I am. How ridiculous!
Does anyone else get this? People just arguing with you despite demonstrable evidence that you're right? How do you deal with it?

If the Lucy in a 30 felt tight, I'd definitely recommend a 70 in EM bras.
When you say the cups are a fraction large and too large, respectively, is that with the asymmetry pads already in place? (Or is this one of the bras that doesn't come with them?)
Try this one on with an extender to see what it does to the cup -- it's possible it only looks a fraction too small because the tight band is making the cup smaller than it otherwise would be. If that happens and the cups look too large on both breasts, you'll probably want a 70FF. If not, then try a 70G.
