My shape: full on bottom, soft tissue, narrow shoulders/roots.
Special thanks to MamaPagan for sending me this bra (and many others!) to try on!
Appearance: This bra is MY DREAM BRA in... the complete wrong size and shape. Sigh. It's simply gorgeous. (Sorta related... I never used to care what my bras actually looked like, back before being bra obsessed and fitting in the right size bra. Probably because what I had been wearing my whole live NEVER ACTUALLY FIT!) Anyways, it's a smooth, silky fabric, 3 part bra. (one vertical and one horizontal seam) The print is this AMAZING black floral pattern; the flowers are BRIGHT colors in blues, ... pinks, yellows, oranges. Almost the entire strap has the floral pattern. The lace part of the cups is a black mesh with bright blue zigzag and stripe designs, and has a thin black liner behind it.
Fit: So if this was 2 band sizes bigger and 2 cups sizes smaller, it would be awesome! The band is too small for me to actually try it on in any meaningful way. Hopefully someone else can make use of this!

This Bra gave me the usual feeling of pushing my boobs under my armpits. This meant that the cups are too separate so the gore is poking into my breast tissue. The wires are about 4cm away from my inframammary fold and feel like they are poking my back. Because the cups are too wide the cup fabric digs into my armpit. I also feel like the straps are too separate on the back of the bra not giving the proper support I need.

The Fabric is nice and soft and the top of the cup follows the breast tissue wonderfully though there seems to be a bit more fabric on the lace side of the transition meaning the lace gapes a little.

  3. Ivy Balcony Bra (1332)

    Didn't fit

    Appearance:
Black base and straps, leaf and twig pattern in a dark teal color and dots in three colors: off-white, orange and a powdery color that looks like a mixture of both. Bows and lace in a bright, orange-toned red. Strongly reminds me of Christmas but I like it well enough. Found the colorway surprisingly flattering on my very fair skin.

    Shape:
Uplifted but a little pointy for my taste. Bras I Hate's green shape.

    Band fit:
Seemed nice and snug. When I tried the Ivy in 28HH, I could immediately fasten the band on the 2nd set of hooks (even though the cups were too small) but in this 28J ... it feels tighter. I love three hooks and eyes, it just makes me feel very secure in a bra. Plus no back rolls.

    Cup fit:
Not exactly ideal on me. I had a Freya fold and the cups wrinkled slightly close to the center.

    Wire fit:
The wire width felt good and they didn't poke my armpits. But I suspect the center gore was too wide for me. It wouldn't lie flat and one of the wires sat on my breast tissue because the other one took up all the space between my boobs.

    Straps:
Very wide, in my opinion. Made from a stretchy material and felt comfortable. Also, if you need very long straps, look no further. I could adjust them all the way, which felt okay for now, but taking into account that the straps might stretch a little over time, they are not short enough. I would have liked to be able to tighten them a little further. Tightening the straps was also very difficult due to the strap's design. Loosening them felt rather easy, though.

A nice bra but there are too many issues for me, the biggest being the center gore.
Also, the bra came up rather high on me and felt like a lot of fabric on my frame.
I feel that this bra was designed for women taller than me (1,60 cm).

The band on this bra runs about a size big, so it is really more like a 30HH. The pattern is lovely, but the underwires don't feel as strong and sturdy as Freya's older styles. It's also not the right shape for me--it has too much depth, would be better for someone with more projection and less fulness on top.

This bra fits well though I would want a little more room in the cups. But the wire seems too short as a little support is lacking under the armpit. I would want the straps to be closer together.

Fits me pretty well, though if I had a choice I would go up a cup (no 28JJ): hopefully, the top of the cup will lose some elasticity over time to give me some more room. The usual feeling of the wires wrapping around to my back, but the strap placement feels pretty good. I also like the strap buckles on the front which should help prevent the strap from folding.

    Fits

All the reviews say how pretty this bra is, and I'm sure that's true if you're into this sort of design. It's very girly with the floral lace and pastel colors, which really isn't my style. As far as I'm concerned, this whole range looks like it was designed by My Little Ponies, and it features my pet peeve of different front/back design, but I will wear it anyway because it's one of the best fitting wired bras I've tried.

The fit of this bra is closer to Panache or Cleo than the usual Freya fit. It's tighter in the band and smaller in the cups than many Freyas ... I've tried. I'd suggest starting with whatever size usually works for you in Panache, or going up a cup from your usual Freya size. In a lot of ways, this bra is a compromise for me. It's higher on the sides and gore than I'd prefer, but it's still comfortable, unlike everything I've tried so far with lower/shorter wires. I think I may have an odd shape, or at least oddly shaped roots. The wires fit comfortably in my IMF at the bottom of the cup, and they're wide enough to enclose everything on the sides, but there's a portion of the outside bottom of the cup where the wires seem far from my roots. These wires are a bit harder than some of my other Freyas, but not as hard as something like Cleo or Bravissimo.

The stretch lace on these cups works very well for me. It's not too tight, not too lose, has no edge to cut in, and moves well with my breasts. Even when bending over, I don't fall out of these cups. In a 28J, the top section of the cups is stretchy while the other sections have a lining that doesn't stretch. The lace isn't perfectly flat, but it's not so horrendously lumpy as to show through all clothing. Straps are fully adjustable, and I can pull the one on my smaller side a hair tighter to get both sides nice and snug in the cups. The back of the bra is made of a smooth and stretchy material that's very soft. Honestly, I would not mind a whole bra made of that stuff.

Had this model of bra before and like with the others I will be altering the depth of the cup on the side. This issue being born from the cups being too wide. The cups are also too separate for me.

    • I almost ordered this in the same band and a slightly smaller cup size from another site. Seeing nowa the wire measurment compared to the cup width, I think the wires would be way too wide for me, and possibly not enough depth in the cups. The pictures on here seem to confirm that. Some Freya bras are too wide in the wire for me, which is too bad because I like their bras! I am close set so I was hoping this plunge could work, but I will probably skip this model. Thanks for sharing :)

    • I seem to have a problem with the width of the cups/wires on most bras. I have ordered some bras from Comexim, which are supposed to be narrower and have more projection. I'll add an update on those when they arrive.

    Freya Afterglow in 28J

I am adding this bra for data/informational purposes only. This Bra is not owned by me at the time of addition to the database.

Afterglow is an underwire non-padded plunge/balcony bra. The color/pattern is black with small multi-colored flowers, and horizontal teal on black lace tops. I tried Afterglow in 28J, 30JJ, and 30K, reviewed separately. This review is for 28J.

The band measures 24” to a max of 28.5” with 3 hooks and 3 rows of eyes.

    Cup Depth as measured by:
1 Hovering the cup between the knees, then placing the tape measure into the cups without any resistance.
    This measurement is: 13”

2 Placing the cup over the knee and stretching it similar to what a breast would, to the maximum resistance.
    This measurement is: 14.75”

I feel these two figures give you a general idea of the minimum and maximum depth that the cup can accommodate, just like the flat and stretched band measurements do with bands.

I am adding this bra for data/informational purposes only. This Bra is not owned by me at the time of addition to the database.
Faye is an unpadded underwire bra in a full cup balcony style. It comes in a White, Black or Beige w/cream dots/snowflake type pattern. I tried Faye in 28J, 30J, and 30JJ in black, as well as 30JJ in white.

The band measures 25” to a max of 29" with 3 hooks with 3 rows of eyes. The straps are extra long, making adjusting to a comfortable length difficult.

    Cup Depth as measured by:
1 Hovering the cup between the knees, then placing the tape measure into the cups without any resistance.
    This measurement is: 11.5”

2 Placing the cup over the knee and stretching it similar to what a breast would, to the maximum resistance.
    This measurement is: 14.25”

I feel these two figures give you a general idea of the minimum and maximum depth that the cup can accommodate, just like the flat and stretched band measurements do with bands.

This is a pretty bra with dainty lightweight mesh.

I accidentally ordered the wrong size. I would be nervous to try this again in a better size because the gore is wide, does not work at all on my close set breasts, they literally pushed the cups to overlap the gore on their own.

Some notes: I am still buying and trying bras armed with my new size information so my purchases are kind of across the board. I am also nursing my 7.5 month old so that affects my sizing experiences!

I took a chance and ordered this bra in a 28J UK size even though I measure at a 34 GG UK simply because there was a $46(!) price difference between the two sizes.

Initial impressions: This bra is beautiful in person! Lovely design and craftsmanship. The band is way too small, of course, so I had to use three extenders to even fasten it (don't hate). The cups fit me beautifully which is such a plus as I seem to have trouble locating cups that can accommodate my nursing relationship. I'm beginning to so suspect that I'm larger than a GG cup. Even though the band is too small, I may convert this to a nursing bra even if I just wear it around the house to feel glamorous https://d28qt14g3opchh.cloudfront.net/smileys/icon_smile.gif" alt=":)" />

  17. Ellie Balcony Bra (1132)

Super pretty and comfortable! It gives the boobs a great shape (nice and round, but not unnaturally round, uplifted and projected forward.) My only complaint is that it comes up a bit too high under the arms on me (not uncomfortable, just inconvenient in a tank top.)

    Pros:
Soft and delicate fabric, but still extremely supportive!
Beautiful colors and pattern- even prettier in person.
Sturdy band won't be stretching much any time soon.
    Straps adjust to infinity.
The band and cups fit just right on me.
    SO comfy and supportive.

    Cons:
The pattern would be really visible under a lot of clothes.
Comes up high under the arms, but that might just be because I'm short.
    Seams might show under clothes.
Lace at the top of the cups is a little delicate.
Straps are just a smidgen far apart on me, but I have narrow shoulders.

This bra is really lovely and comfortable, but it doesn't fit quite right. The cups are just a smidgen too big- not enough to go down a cup size. The main problem, though, is that it just comes up wayyy too high under the arms on short-torso'ed me.

I'd definitely recommend it for someone taller, but at 5'2" I just don't have enough distance between my boobs and my armpits to fit this bra!

On the plus side, though, it's very well constructed, gives a great shape (almost all my bras are Freyas for this reason) and the fabric is very sturdy and supportive despite feeling really delicate.

My normal band size is 32 - so be warned, the Edina has a really big band. The cups are normal for Freya and give a nice, rounded shape. The material is very comfortable in this model, almost like there was nothing on your skin. The bra feels sturdy, so once you find your size it's a very good bra. I kept this one although I would actually have needed a 28JJ, which they don't make. Well, it's just on the border of fits well and a bit too small in the cup, but I can live with it.
