Yay new bras! I went to Boston (well, Cambridge and vicinity) this weekend, and took the opportunity to try to buy some new bras. Here's the rundown. (Spoiler: it worked!)

Forty Winks, Harvard Square, Cambridge MA - struck out. They didn't really have much that fit, most of it fit kind of "eh," not "wow". The salesperson was as helpful as she could be, I think...they just don't stock much in that range, and as someone from out of town, I didn't want to order anything.

Nordstrom, Burlington MA - meh. Not a lot of styles out on the floor, and they didn't have a strapless in my size. I forgot to try the new Panache sports bra, since they carry that brand. They also have Freya but not Fantasie or Parfait by Affinitas. Also, I was less motivated, because I had just come from...

Nordstrom Rack, Burlington, MA - Yay!!! I found three bras here for $65. They had a decent amount of 30 and 32 bands in the vicinity of my cup size. I didn't see any 28s at all. I found 20 bras on the clearance rack which were close enough to try on (a couple were different sizes of the same style). I took careful notes of what did and didn't fit and what sizes I would think would fit in that style. I think I may have to keep doing this for a while until I really figure out my size in different brands.
The three bras I bought are:
Freya Patsy half-cup balconette, 30G. Really nice rounded shape and pretty light green color (not really "lime" more spring green). Didn't really show under my tight knit top. This one is my favorite of the three.
Wacoal Seduction Demi-Wire Bra (851155) 32G, blue ("iris"). I could possibly have gone down a band size to 30H, but they don't make those, so for the price and how attractive it is, it was worth it. The seam does show under that top, so I will have to wear it during the winter (sweaters!) or just let it show.
Freya Lyla Underwire Plunge Balcony, 32F, black and red. I got this one mostly because it fits fine and for $8.70 that's all I'm going to ask for! It will probably be smooth under shirts as well. The design is decent, though I think the little plastic crystal dangly in the middle will probably come off. Also black is good for me because the straps will match my black clothes.
Feeling really happy about bra shopping for once!

  • If the Freya Patsy Padded Halfcup fits, you might want to hunt for other bras with similar cut, ie the Summer/Monet/Martha/Teagan family.

  • The Burlington NR is in my neck of the woods. I'll have to go check it out one of these days. Thanks for the tip!
