I’ve been working towards finding my true bra size for about 6 months now. Up until that point I was wearing 38D and thought they fit well (Ha!). Now, knowing how to properly put on a bra and what to look for in fit I hang out all sides of those bras. Online bra calculators consistently told me I’m a 36G which I thought overestimated my cup size. I’ve learned that I’m Center full, probably full on bottom and that I’m becoming more pendulous (stupid gravity).

My first bra fitting had me in 38E/F bras, but I realized that they flattened me and the band size was too big. In subsequent fittings I settled on 36F (Cleo, Parfait). I really thought that this was the right size for me. Recently though, I noticed how squeezed my breasts felt in the cups- like they were fighting against the fabric and I was going to bust out at any minute. While it felt like my breasts were contained in the cups, I did have some excess side tissue and the band seemed to be pulling. I also started to notice some quad-boob in most of the bras.

I decided I should recheck my bra fit and tried on several bras this weekend. I really felt that I only needed to go up to FF but I still had some quad boob in this size and 36G ended up working best. I bought a Panache Jasmine bra (on sale) which I initially thought may be slightly big in the cup, but now that I’ve worn it all day, doesn’t seem to be true. I noticed that the band doesn’t look pulled and lies flat unlike my other bras. Originally I thought the pulling was because I needed to size up a band, but it looks like the cup may have been the issue.

I did not buy into tissue migration when I read others experiences but am now thinking this at least partially explains why I am needing larger cups than I originally thought I’d need. I noticed this weekend that bras that initially felt like they might be the right size or even too big ended up being too small in the cup once I’d properly adjusted myself. I believe I’ve read that others had noticed a similar increase in cup size when they first started wearing properly fitting bras. I’m assuming that I’m pretty close to my true bra size now and hopefully I can now start to identify what to look for in bras that work for me (so far I’ve learned that Chantelle bras are probably not the bras for me and that I don’t fill the tops of molded cups).

  • It is quite a journey, eh? Best of luck!!!

  • I did not believe in tissue migration either, and I shrunk 2 band sizes after getting properly fitted. It's real!
