Bra fitting help » Straps too far apart, cup gape?
Wacoal » French Garden Seamless Underwire T Shirt Bra (85340) » 36D 36:4
Issues:
- Straps seem a bit far apart
- Cup is gaping about an inch off tissueThis is probably the first bra I've found that stays in my IMF! Which is huge, it's the issue I have with 99% of bras.
So I am trying to figure out what is going on with my cup. Do I just do down a cup size, or do I need a size up? The wires are perfectly on the edge of my tissue.
Is my band too loose, should I sister size to a 34DD? It doesn't feel like it is too big? It seems to firmly stay in place without hurting me!It looks like after maybe a year of searching I might finally have a bra! Also if anyone knows how to make lace really soft and not itch, let me know! I'm sure a washing will help, but I probably will need more. I'm considering using baking soda when washing it. I've heard that's a great fabric softener.
UPDATE: I bought this bra in a 36C & 34DD to see how it fit.
36C: band fit, straps where the right distance however my breasts where trying to pop out of the cup. Bra starts to hinge and dig into my rig cage, and fell out of IMF.
34DD: Band was so tight I could barely get it on, I had it on upside down. Rotating it around my rib cage was almost impossible, it scratched me while doing so. Flipping it up hurt, and I could barely breath in it. The cups where much too big.

helpfulIt seems all of the bras you have tried are mainly shallow. If bras aren't in your imf, it's a good sign you should try polish comexim, Ewa Michalak, etc
If you're in the US, breakout bras carries comexim for fairly cheap. The band on this is probably 2 sizes larger than you need, though which can also cause wires to be wider because larger band = wider cups.
I don't think your roots are wide. Most ladies with separate breasts think their roots are wide because they are separated so they "look" wide.
I thought I had wide roots because mine have a 3 finger gap in between but they're not. The gap causes them to look wide. My roots aren't approximately 5.4 inches and do not go under my arms. My breasts are 14.5 inches from root to root measuring over nipple so even though they look wide, they're really not.Freya is another good option. I'll need to look at your measurements to recommend a size though. I'll be right back
Try freya 30DD with an extender until break in, 32D, 34 C & D.
Freya runs large in the band so I think the biggest you should try is 32 unless you want bigger for comfort. Here is my breasts https://www.instagram.com/p/DAEZf1tvWPf/?igsh=MWxqdWtodGxuNTcwMw==
They're on the front of my chest like yours.

If your breasts are being turned into cones there's a good chance the cup is too big or the projection is too high. Ewa Michalak 85D SF will probably fit you well and give a super rounded shape. The 85 band should be loose enough for you. Ewa Michalak BM 85C is another good option. Since you're wearing your band too loose, you'll need a smaller cup to keep it from gaping. I'd email Breakout bras if I were you and tell them you need something soft and narrow.
Comexim mesh band bras are not soft at all. The fabric band bras feel like a cloud. In comexim you'll probably need around a 80DD-E I don't remember their size chart.
You can get SF nibynic at miseczki in 85D. They have a new customer deal as does breakout bras (or they did. They might still)
I love Bella Rosa lingerie. She will do a size check for $25 and only send you bras that WILL work for you without you putting in any work. She has a subscription you can get for her to surprise you with soft bras that are right for you. She has IG if you want to go check her out
I just love her.Savannah at BOB is also great.
I have ASD and also prefer soft loose bras which means the cups are never perfect, but near close.
If you go with SF, try 85 C and D first. Make sure you're scooping, swooping, and then go to the center of your breast and push towards the wire and then give your bra cup a good shake. There's YouTube videos and Ewa Michalak has a video showing how to put a bra on.
Bras with stretch on top will also minimize that cone shape. BM is naturally pointy, but in a sexy way. Sf is round like a t shirt bra. Can't get rounder than SF.
Comexim plunge bras whether unpadded or padded will be better for you than 3hc
3hc doesn't work for my breasts because they're empty on top and the something about it just doesn't work for my roots. My roots would need to be wider for 3hc to work. When you email a fitter, make sure to let them know your specific wants and needs.
Don't want - pointy shapes, rough fabric, etc
Want - soft, round, etcIf you have soft tissue/projected more than 2 inches the calculator can be way off PLUS different countries use different sizing systems.
I have to measure while wearing a bra regardless
Abtf calculator just doesn't work for me.And since I need my breasts squished I always go down a cup size anyways from what I should need so stretchy fabrics help with that.

Hi shaniabunch22, I was thinking the other day that the cones meant the cup was too big and projected. I was planning to order them again and give it a shot, but it seems like all of those brands no longer do try before you buy. Which is painful because these bras are really expensive and it's hard for me to buy them in bulk to test.
I have bookmarked the Bella Rosa lingerie, I will very likely ask for help from her if I am still struggling in a week or two. I'm hoping I can figure this out on my own but omg, bras are such a pain!
I always scoop and swoop, however I've never heard of the push towards the wire thing. I tried looking for the video on Youtube, but got a ton of random videos about the bra. If you happen to know the link to that one, I would greatly appreciate it.
I'm probably going to avoid Ewa for now, just because they are incredibly expensive and I can't really throw $100 around like that easily. Also yikes, Comexim is pretty tight? I'll have to check the bands if I can get my hands on some then. The 3hc looks pretty cute, I just hope it doesn't show through clothing easily. I'm after a really minimalistic looking bra if I can get away with it, with minimal show.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who had issues with abtf calculator... my best friend it worked great for, not so much for me. It seems to be more biased towards projected breasts? That's my guess, I could be wrong.
My breasts are also super soft tissue, so they squish. A lot of the time they try and melt into the bottom of my bra, can cause annoying issues.
Took note of what you said for emailing the fitter, threw that in my notes. Thank you!

Yeah, same! Which is why I prefer bras with too small cups so I can manipulate my breasts into the cups however I want and it will fit. If I don't wear a too small bra my breasts are like liquid in a cup 😅

Here you go 😀

Also, comexim mesh band is tight. Not the fabric 😊 the fabric bands are really solid, but soft. They're not snug but are tts.

I'm going to try to make this make sense.
So for me, there aren't a lot of ewa bras in my size range posted here so what I did was go to the most popular sizes, and I started writing down measurements. Turns out, Ewa bras are about .6 inches between sizes.
So if bratabase shows that a 80E is 9.6 deep i know 80DD will be about 9.1 deep. 80 E is 5.6 wide so I know that 80 DD will be 5.5 wide. Does this make sense?
So I started checking on sister sizes. If there's a lot of bras in 75DD, I know the sizes for 75DD will be the size of 80D. 70E will be .1 more narrow than 80D, and so on.
You learn to do math when there's not a whole lot listed in your size.
So for bras you're looking at, you can do this. Just go down however many inches necessary to count sizes. If a lot of bras are here at 36G, then you know you can go down half an inch for each size and so on.
You'll just need to check measurements here for different sizes to know exactly now many inches you need to take away for each brand to get the measurements.

helpfulThe band looks comfortable, by the measurements it looks like it's on the losely comfortarble side. It would depend on your comfort level and activity if a smaller band would work, but I think the main issue you're encoutering is with the molded cups.
I would imagine that a lace cup or something non molded would work best as they can be more forgiving on the top. The problem with molded cups is that you have to fill up to the rim precisely for them to be great.
You could go one cup smaller and then sister size down, so maybe a 34C or 36C, but definitely one cup volume down from this.

Hello Jj , thank you for your response. The band is right in my comfort zone. As I stated above, I need a lace band to avoid causing my spinal injury to act up. Normal bands tend to cause me issues but lace bands don't, because they are less reinforced. So yes, comfortably loose but still supportive is what I need.
The cup does seem to be an issue and I'm very sad. Bratabase doesn't have a lot of info on the measurements of this 36D. So I'm not getting a lot of similar bras.
I generally prefer a more minimal design to my bras so they don't show. I also need some padding to hide my nipples, or they constantly show. I do have some liners from wireless bra I could use if needed.
Do you have any bras you could suggest you think might work? -
I only know about tue popular models that have information added on the site, so for similar molded bras the ones with more information would be the Freya Deco Moulded Plunge Bra (4234) and Parfait By Affinitas Casey (2801) .
Sadly, there's way too many bras and sizes combinations to have enough data for all, but your input helps the next person :-P

Also, consider something like this.
And the softest bras I've ever put on that agree with my Autism sensory disorder,
And wacoal perfect primer.
These just don't work for me, but they may work for you. I still wear them regardless to sleep in because they're just that soft.
If you just want comfort and support, wacoal perfect primer in 34D will be great. The band is so stretchy and silky, so I would go with a 34. I measure at 33 and can wear a 30 with no problems even with me not liking a tight band.
If you want comfort and a little support then Spanx bra-llalujah is amazing. I'd try a 34D/DD in this as well. The band on this feels like a SUPER SUPER stretchy cloud.
You can typically get good deals on these.

shaniabunch22 Whoa! That back strap is crazy, I didn't know these even existed! I will definitely consider something like this if I need it. I'm not sure how comfortable I would be in that, but I'd have to try it to be sure.
I have never heard of Spanx! I will definitely add these to the list of bras to try. I also favorited the perfect primer by Wacoal. I will see if I can put in an order for these in 34 and 36 just to try them all on at once.
Thank you so much!
-
You're welcome. Make sure to read the reviews on here. The 34 is like a 36. The 36 is like a 38 for perfect primer. For Spanx, it will stretch 4 + extra sizes. It stretches quickly. A 30 Spanx is more like a 34 brand new, but by the time it breaks in its like a 36.
Definitely do not size up to 36 for these 2 bras.

Hi shaniabunch22, thank you for your reply. This is going to be long but I'm going to try and cut it down to best of my ability without losing information.
I have tried a lot of EU and Polish brands before coming to Bratabase. They where super amendment about them at r/abrathatfits. I did not list them as owned because I returned them and can't give proper measurements. I wish I could post I tried these somewhere on my profile and they didn't fit. I've tried:
- Freya Starlight: 34FF, 36DD, 36E, 36F, 34G
- Panache Jasmine: 34F, 34FF, 36DD, 36E, 36F
- Panache Cari Spacer: 36DD
- Panache Envy: 34DD, 34E, 34F
- Panche Clara: 34DD, 34E, 34F
- Fantasie Seamless Balcony Bra: 34DD, 34E, 34F
- Curvy Kate Balcony: 34E
I now know that I'm much closer to a D or DD in a 34 or 36 band (US). The reason these previous bras are so high, is because the r/abrathatfits calculator was saying I was a G. Which was blatently wrong as soon as I put them on. So I tried lower and lower from the subreddits suggestions, and none of them worked. Someone pointed out that my standing and leaning was only a 2 inch difference, which made the calculator take the larger number and massively miss size me. So I dropped the number down and it gave me 36D and 34DD, which is correct it seems. Yay for being a rare instance, ugh.
The issue with these bras, is that as soon as I put them on they are incredibly painful. I never took pictures of them because of that, I was rushing to get them off. I suffer from back pain, one of my problem spots just happens to be right where my band sits. I exorcise but it only does so much when there is direct pressure on that spot. So I need a lace band because they put less pressure on my back. Back smoothing, reinforced bands, and compression bras are completely out of the question for me.
Normal bras in a 34 are too tight for me, even with the bra flipped upside down and backwards. Sometimes when I measure I come to a 34.5, other times I'm a 34. So I honestly think I might be between brand sizes. I may have to use an extender if I don't have a lace band. Sadly every time I've tried an extender, it just makes the bra slip out of my IMF more. Although those bras already slipped so. I know I can't go down to a 32, 32 is definitely too tight for me. The most I can do is a 34.
Speaking of projection, I have issues with those bras above turning my boobs into cones. They would project outwards to an extreme, and then the top of the cups would just go straight upwards off my tissue, it was kind of comical honestly. It looked like a torpedo sitting in a lace hammock. I could order another one of these just to showcase this effect if you think that's a good idea. Is there a specific Freya you would suggest? I can generally get Freya on Try Before You Buy.
----------------------
I have never tried Comexim or Ewa before, looking on Amazon or Nordstrom I can't find them. That would probably be why I never tried them. I'll see if I can find them somehow, but I don't have a hefty income so I struggle when having to buy multiple bras. So I'll probably have to lean towards Comexim, as Ewa is very expensive. I will also have to look into the return policy of Breakout Bras.
----------------------
So I looked at your breasts, and at first I thought your boobs stopped short of mine. Although after checking in the mirror I was wrong, they stop right at the same point under the arm, and my breasts are also a 3 finger gap apart. So I guess I'm not a wide set, I'll remove that from my measurements if I can. The only difference between our breasts is sag and you are a larger cup. Even though my tissue is very soft and tends to melt; they somehow support themselves. They only sag enough to create a crease under my breasts. So I don't need a lot of support. I just need something that fits and hides my gals from the world. Which is why I'm currently using a Calvin Klein Invisibles Comfort Seamless Bralette. The only issue with this bra is it does the hinge effect. Where it pushes the band into my rib cage, acting like a hinge. Thankfully since this bra is so soft it doesn't cause pain, however in other bras this does cause quite a bit of discomfort. I can negate this effect by shifting the bra upwards so there is less band touching my rib cage. That's the main reason I'm looking for an actual wired bra.
Gosh this is so long, I'm so sorry.
