Original problem
What is it about this misfit that creates underarm fat?
Any suggestion for me to find a bra that gives the ‘cakes on a plate’ look?

This bra looks like it is for someone with an "H" frame (straight from armpit to lower rib) while it looks like you are more of a V frame (wider at the upper rib area under the arms while tapering smaller as you go towards your lower rib area) making this one a frame mismatch.
Not everyone can achieve the cakes on plate cleavage, but for me, it's always been a combination of bra + close fitting tanktop (or hugging lower cut top or dress) that nailed it, not just a bra alone.
I'm big on Ewa Michalak bras, so I am biased to suggesting her styles. I would look at her PL or CHP styles.

jazzypants With all the little details that effect fit, I am quite amazed that any of us can ever get a good fit.

I like that understanding of frames H versus V in terms of how a particular bra can fit. Yet another part of anatomy and bra structure to tuck away when fitting bras!
