I'm trying to measure the bottom of my gores from now on since it makes a big difference for me (this one is a bit too wide at the bottom) The measurement will be just above the elastic, from the edge of the wire channel straight across to the other wire channel. In this case the fabric got bunched up, but the measurement is 2.4" (vs. .75" at the top)
