Got this bra through a Bratabase listing in my continuing quest for the ideal bra shape for my breasts.

    Bra description:

A pretty, sumptuous-looking bra made of deep magenta (I think it's called 'wine'?) 'satin' with a black lace overlay. The cups are edged with more black lace that has a satin ribbon in the same deep magenta colour threaded through. Three double bows -- each consisting of a large black one with a fine magenta one on top -- adorn the centre gore and places where the cups connect to the straps. The wings are made of fairly stretchy black mesh. The straps are surprisingly plain for such an ... intricate-looking bra. Also, the plain metal-coloured connectors and sliders in my opinion don't really seem to fit the bra's overall style.

The cups are shaped by two vertical seams. They are padded (a bit too thickly for my taste) and lined with the same or very similar deep magenta 'satin' that sits underneath the black lace on the outside of the cups (it actually looks more like a fine and shiny, jersey-type knit, so technically it isn't a satin). This lining certainly is pretty and smooth and LOOKS luxurious, but for me it is way too synthetic to be comfortable. I prefer my bras lined with something more coton-y. Since I purchased this bra off the Bratabase listing I've stumbled upon a bunch of other Curvy Kate bras in a local department store (of course they don't stock 28 bands there ... ) and I've noticed I really dislike the feel of the fabrics used on most of them. This may, of course, just be a personal quirk, as I don't think I've seen anybody else mention it.

    Bra fit:

Now, I'm a bit baffled by the way this bra fits -- or rather NOT fits. As my larger breast is nearly falling out of the cup and bulging unattractively (though not quite quadboobing ... ), the simplest conclusion would be that this bra is too small, but I don't think a bigger cup size would fit me any better as my smaller left breast also has issues. The shape the cups give me is weird and angular on both my smaller and my larger breasts and for some reason my naturally outward facing breasts want to spill towards the centre, something they don't even really do in a serious plunge bra. The bra seem to want to shape my breasts into 'vertical ovals' -- 0 -- which doesn't really work very well. The lace sticks out oddly -- the thick padding prevents it from sitting flush with my skin -- and even though the wires don't seem to be sitting on breast tissue and come up high enough at the sides to keep everything in, I think they are still a bit too narrow: they really are incredibly painful at the sides.

The band feels too loose for me and is VERY stretchy, easily the stretchiest 28 band I've encountered so far. Part of it may be due to the fact this bra isn't brand new, although it's otherwise in excellent condition and looks practically unworn. As it is, I would have to wear it at the tightest hook -- it works sort of, but still isn't ideal.

    Conclusion:

This bra definitely isn't for me. The shape just doesn't work for me AT ALL, and even though the design and colour scheme are gorgeous, the materials (lining and padding) are not my cup of tea. After having tried some unpadded Curvy Kates as well I think I can safely though somewhat sadly conclude I'm just not a Curvy Kate girl. I'm going to list this bra and hope it will find a better home with someone whom it actually suits ...

I have been lusting after this bra for a long time. I really love how it looks on the model and a variety of other users. It's super cute too. It doesn't really look sexy IMO. I saw the measurements on another users account, said "Wellp, they're close enough," and decided to buy. I figured this bra would help me figure out my "cup depth max." Unfortunately it did not as this bra is very stiff and has an odd shape at that. I really can't account for comfort. About ten minutes of wear doesn't really tell me much. From what I recall, it felt no discomfort during ... my short time wearing it. I will not be wearing it out any time soon because of what I presume to be a shape mismatch. I have ordered this same bra in a 28D just to see how it fits. I have an inkling I may have gone smaller than I should have, but we shall see. We shall see.
The straps are of course really wide. I do not believe that they would be a huge bother to me or fall off of my shoulders. That little loopy detailing on the sides of the straps makes them feel rougher than I imagine they would otherwise be. I don't feel this detail is really noticeable when being worn so I really think it's an addition that should be left off of most bras; it seems to be a common decoration. The straps are also fully adjustable. Albeit that same bit of detailing makes it a bit difficult to adjust. I'm sure that same detail also makes it harder for the hardware to slip. Although I have never had an issue with straps self loosening.
The cups are super interesting to me. It appears to be a cut and sew foam cup made exclusively with vertical seams. I imagine this is supposed to push the bust way up and create Antoinette style cleavage. It also creates a very shallow cup with the largest cup depth near the top of the cup. Although this bra is not sold as a half cup or anything short of an average coverage cup, so the cup being designed like a half cup bra doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me. Nor do I think a "half cup" should provide full/average coverage as I have seen this bra do on almost everyone that wears it. It does have decent projection next to the gore. For those women with a lot of inner fullness, this bra should accommodate that pretty well. I do not have a lot of inner fullness, so that's the area of the cup that gapes the most for me. The foam is pretty smooth feeling but it is not lined so it is just foam and seams directly against the breast. It wasn't very noticeable to me but worth noting. I could see the ruffle like detailing above the edge of the cup being rough and annoying to those with sensitive skin. This style seems to run pretty small compared to most curvykate models that I have looked at. This 28:6 runs more like a 28:5 or 28:4. If you have all the fullness on top this bra should fit you pretty well. If you have soft, easily moulded breasts than this bra should also fit you. For me, this bra simply encased my breast tissue and did a bit of smooshing.
The wires were not hugely noticeable to me. Although they are pretty firm to the touch and do not warp easily at all. They say that Curvy Kate bras have wide wires. This bra does not. These wires are pretty narrow for a bra in this size. It also appears to be constructed similar to my Comexim bra; of course with a whole lot less projection. What I'm referring to here is how the under wire and the cup are attached to one another. It's REALLY hard for me to describe. This bra would have really good projection if it have a better shaped cup.
The band is once again an OK fabric. I'm certainly not impressed with the fabrics used in this bra. The elastic feels like it is high quality and it is nice and soft to the touch. The band feels super stretchy and I it only stretches to about 29". I would say it is TTS, yet have this feeling that it would stretch out fairly quickly because I immediately felt like I needed the tightest hook. My loose under bust is about 27"/28". I don't think I absolutely NEEDED the tightest hook and could probably use the middle or loosest hook, but it just didn't feel as secure as I like it too. An average 28 band wearer would think this band was perfect, IMO.
The wings of this bra go from being 3.5" inches tall (connected to the cup) down to 2.5" in about an inch worth of space. So, the wings of this bra decreases in height really quickly IMO. I thought that was a little note worth mentioning.
Oh, and the Gore! It's pretty narrow, which is nice. I am finding that there really is not that many women whom have wide set breasts. I thought I had wide set breasts for the longest time simply because my tissue is shallower there than the rest of my breast. But when I push my breasts against my chest it is clearly visible that there just is not much space between my breasts. I feel that this happens to most women after finding out about correct bra sizing. The Gore also remains narrow down the entire length of the gore. Which is REALLY nice because most gore's may be narrow towards the top but then get very wide at the bottom. I almost always have wires sitting on my larger breast because the gore does not maintain it's narrow width all the way down.
All in all I wish the quality of this bra was a bit better over all. They're pretty costly when not on sale and should therefore have better materials used. The construction is fine, although I believe the cup could be designed better. To eachs own as they say! I realize that this bra was not made for a shape like mine and due to this shape mismatch it may never fit me right. BUT! It is a really adorable bra and I hope that the cup width doesn't decrease too much with a two cup size difference. Because I want the 28D (or 28DD if the ladder is way to small) to fit as well as I can get it to for our shape differences.

    • That looks like a half cup to me. Seams are like my CHP or 3HC.

I appreciate the detail you put into articulating a bra's characteristics!!

Vertical seamed cut and sew bras are very common, they're called half cups. Ewa's CH and CHP cuts are like this as well as Comexim's half cups. Not all vertical seamed bras like this are shallow at the wire - in fact both Ewa and Comexim's 2-seamed half cups have much more projection at the underwire. It does appear most UK bras with vertical seams are rather shallow at the bottom.

    • Thank you yogurt !

    • Adorable! Hope another size fits better.

I ordered it in the Pink/Ivory, a cute colourway that reminds me of My Little Pony. Bur I ran into the same problems as with the Curvy Kate Entice (SG1601) : too wide wires, too wide cup, too wide set straps, very painful underwire digging. The cups were too big for me though, I couldn't fill them. This one was returned as well.

Really shallow so if you're not uber shallow too it will va va voom shove your boobs way up, I guess hence the name. Hard to quad cause it's so open on top (awesome for tall FOTers like me). Cups ran way too small and shallow, even too narrow for me. I'd fare better in two cup sizes larger I think. Band was tts. Wires really nice and firm so when you stretch the band the wires stay true to shape and do not flatten the cups. I have the purple colour way and it is really pretty, shame it doesn't fit.

Welp. This bra makes the ladies look amazing. If I don't breathe in you don't even see all the quadding because of the lace. lol
This was one of the first styles I tried when I started my adventures in bras. It didn't work for me because my breasts are super squishy, in the size I started in (28D/DD) they were just on the brink of being wide rooted, and I wasn't properly S&Sing for the first couple months of wearing better bras. Because of all that I always wanted to try this in a bigger size. It's 100% too small but I kind of like it and might end up keeping it for the cakes on a plate look.

    • Would you say this bra is not as deep as the 28DD? You have the cup depth as 7.8 on the DD and 7.2 on the E....I've been searching quite fervently to figure out what size to get...the "average" that BtB has posted for this bra seems to quite a bit smaller than what the reviewers having written about the depth and width. I swear I'm even more confused than when I first started! >.<

Well, clearly I was far too influenced by all the reviews saying to size up in the cups, because wowee the cups were too big on me. The cups were also rather squished at the seams and generally stayed so while I was wearing it. The band was good. It felt really good; I really do need to be in 28 bands rather than 30. The straps were thicker than what I was used to, but I don't imagine it'd give me much trouble unless it was really hot out. They were too wide for my frame though.

This may be related to the too-large cups, but the gore was way high and dug into my sternum. I'm not sure if I'm just not used to high gores or if this is a shape mismatch (though I see a lot of others saying that the gore digs, so it's probably not just me). In any case, this bra did not work for me.

    Used to fit

    Technically, it fit.
Unfortunately, as many reviewers noted, I can confirm it's very uncomfortable to wear. The underwires are stiff and U-shaped and poke into the sternum and into the sides.
The cups are open on top and shallow at the bottom. This seems not the best thing for my breast shape (I get nip slips when bending forward). It's not a big issue under clothing, but I decided I don't feel 100% good in it and so I'm not keeping it.

If I'd try it again, I'd pick a 30DD instead of 28E, hoping this will fix the poking wires. The band felt pretty firm so it will probably work.

I saw a quick hack to make it more closed on top by taking in the ribbon at the brim of the cup. Sounds like a good way to fix the open cups.

The material of this bra is very nice. It's soft, not itchy and it's beautiful fabric in general. It's very comfortable except a bit too small for me in the cup size and just a tad snug for the band as well.

    Fits

I have a few different colors of this bra and I really like it for an everyday great support type of bra. It does leave horizontal bra lines under my clothes, which I do not like the look of, but I find most of my bras do that (if I didn't wear a bra because of that I might have one bra to choose from, so this is fairly low on my bra priority requirement list).

I love the fact that it was readily available enough that I managed to get a few different colors over time. I really like being able to reliably find a bra that fits ... that I like, and be able to (fairly) easily purchase more. I have some other bras that I prefer the fit of, but since I have a practically zero chance of finding more of those exact bras (I'm talking to you Masquerade Anise 28E!) I don't wear them "everyday". I don't want to wear them out too fast, and after years of wearing a poorly fitted bra I get anxiety not knowing where my next good bra is coming from.

I have pinned the centre gore inwards on an angle to increase the height of the wires in the middle. This wasn't necessarily out of necessity since I comfortably wore these bras for a long time without doing that (I didn't have it pinned when I set the fit of the bra- this was recent in this bras history), but I really do like the wires coming up very high, so this works for me. (I haven't actually sewn it together because it works just fine for right now, and you can't see it under my clothes anyways.)

I find it very comfortable for during the day, but since it's not 100% cotton it won't feel like it is either. I have sensitive skin and it doesn't bother me at all, unless I wear it at night or when I'm sweating a lot... https://d28qt14g3opchh.cloudfront.net/smileys/icon_wink.gif" alt=";)" />

I will say that I have cut the fancy lace off the top in a different size of this bra type, and it didn't help at all with the bra lines under clothes, so beware if you choose to do this; it might not work.

    TL;DR
I buy this bra over and over because I know it will fit well to my body, I can find it fairly easily online, and it is usually for sale at a good price too.
