    30G

    Fits

Finally got a moment to take photos of my new Salem's Scissors Florencia Bralette. This time around, I asked for the corner of the cup to be brought in 1 inch closer to the wing seam, for the band to be 1 inch shorter, and for the hooks to be on my right. With these alterations in mind, she made me a 30G, and while the cup is smaller than I was expecting - it actually really worked out in this case because the fabric is very stretchy. The band is a little tight, but it's at kind of that perfect tightness where I know that it will be perfect after wearing an extender for a short while. I am the kind of masochist that prefers when new bra bands are just a smidgen too small, because that means I can keep the bra longer. I really love this bralette, and I am sure that I will get a lot of use out of it in August!

It looks beautiful! I love the delicate colour way and that's great it ended up being a fit. How does it feel support-wise given the stretchy fabric?

    • I adore this color on you! Glad the band is "perfect" for you :-) :-)

    • 1

yogurt The bralette does provide a little bit of support after I scoop and swoop into the cups. In real life my nipples sit about .5"-1" lower than they do in the photos.

    • 2

Love4Pollinators Aw thank you! I feel so trendy now that I have a bralette in the ever so infamous "Millennial Pink".

    • Giggle. Let me know how this beauty handles heat. I'm suffering in 106F with 86% humidity; also known as Hell. ;-)

    • It's so beautiful and looks like a great nudesque bra on you! I'm super jelly!

    • 2

Love4Pollinators So this bra has been handling heat beautifully. I've been needing more support this week, because I am about to be on my monthly, and it's been keeping my breasts from aching without giving me boob sweat.

    • Biiumers Thank you for the update! :-)

    Hasn't set fit

I got my bralette from Salem's Scissors in the mail today! I love the galaxy fabric, and the overall look of the bra. It is adorable and funky, and exactly how I wanted it to look. This bra is so close to fitting, but it is going to need slight alterations before it does.

I love the way the cup projection was designed. Instead of using a seamed cup, the bottom of each cup is pleated many times over, and it seams like it is keeping the cups from riding up on my chest nicely so far. I decided to go for a 32:7, instead of ... a 32:8 like my Dreams and Underthings bralette, because I figured this would help smooth out any wrinkling from the pleats. It looks like I was right in that assumption, so if you buy this bralette you should try going down a cup size or two.

I chose powernet for the band because I knew it was going to be firmer than spandex. I tried to measure the band, but is is different when there is no underwire to keep the cups in place. It does feel fairly firm, although it could be a tad bit tighter. The closure on this band is left handed, which for right now has me fumbling around to close it. It is such a strange feeling! I don't think I've ever owned a bra with the hooks on my left before. Also, there are only 2 rows of hooks.

Unfortunately, the bra gapes on the sides where the cups meet the band. I think it's because the seam where the cradle meets the band isn't aligned with the edge of the cup, if that makes sense. The cradle continues 1 inch past the cup before meeting the bra band. I am going alter it so that the edge of the cups meets the wing seams, and I think that should fix it. I might try going down a cup size for the next one.

Overall, I think this bralette is very well sewn, and pretty well designed. I am going to make that adjustment, and show the shop owner before ordering my next bralette. I really want a light colored one to wear under thin shirts once the dogs days start.

I saw a coupon code on Instagram recently, enter UNICORN to save 25% in her shop.

It's so lovely. I can't tell you how much I waaaant.

    • 3

^Ditto. I want. She may freak when I ask for a 28" band: I watched her youtube video about vanity sizes. Perhaps sending her photos of the measurement tape around my underbust will be convincing ;-) ;-)

    • 1

Love4Pollinators Well according the her measuring video, the band is supposed to be measured at the armpit level so it may not :P

    • It's sooooo pretty! I may ask for this as gift lol

    • 2

I had a day long back and forth with her when I asked her for a 32 band, and she kept trying to tell me I should be in a 34. I considered just lying and telling her that 32 was what I got using the overbust:underbust method. I did convince her in the end, but the band is just a smidgen too big. It is perfect on the tightest set of hooks.

    • 6

That is very pretty, but the prior comments make it very disheartening to try and order something out of matrix sizing from her.

    • 3

      @DreamsandUnderthings has spoiled us.

    • 2

Yeah, trying to order my size was not the easiest thing from her. It's one of those scenarios where it was only really worth it because the bralette was relatively cheap. I wish I had seen that coupon code before ordering, because then it would have been about $26 after shipping. Now that she has made me a bra though, I don't think my next order from her will be as difficult.

    • 1

And, your trail blazing has made it easier for the rest of us. Thank you, Biiumers for your efforts!! :-) :-)

    • Oh. The hooks on the opposite side is exciting to me. These sort of things help keep our brains healthy. I'm certain such a benefit is unintentional, but nerds like me me love this :-) :-)

    • 1

The hooks on the opposite side made me feel like a teenage boy fumbling around!

    • The bra is cute! Although it sucks that she tried to convince you what size you should be.

    • 2

It looks like she didn't pull on the picot elastic edging while stitching it onto the sides of the cups. Doing that will cause it to contract & then stretch to your body instead of being loose & gappy to begin with. The cradles on the bralettes I made went past the sides of the cups as well but when adding the edging I tugged on it to make the side of the cup contract & then stretch when put on. Idk if that makes sense lol

    • lcl0706 Oh! That does make sense!

    • 4

lcl0706 I have to say... finding a bralette that can substitute for the ones you made has been difficult 😧 lol

    • Hmm... wonder if it would be worth it to ask for a 28E. It's super cute and I want to order one now, especially with that coupon code, but I also don't want to be part of a sudden barrage of customers asking for "weird" sizes and arguing about sizing methods. If only we could just be taken at our word when we tell people our sizes, heh

    • 1

I emailed about the Taylor bralette and requested "a band that stretches no more than 30 with 37" bust and 30.5" overbust. " She responded VERY quickly and encouragingly. Two Taylors in process for me. Thanks, Biiumers!

Biiumers I just finished RN school, passed my licensing exam, am buying a house, and moving in less than 4 weeks. But my new house has a whole room I can dedicate as a sewing/crafts room! So, once the dust of the entire life overhaul I've been doing this year settles, I plan on restarting the Etsy shop :)

    • 2

lcl0706 Whoa!! You have been BUSY!! Congratulations!! I'm so excited to see your "dedicated sewing room" creations--sounds wonderful :-) :-)

    • 1

lcl0706 Wow! CONGRATULATIONS!!! That hustle is admirable 😁

    • 1

      Thank you girls :)

    • 2

Biiumers Idk how I missed this. I was just about to ask you how the cups were. I thought I saw a pic where the cups were 2 different pieces of fabric, but I may have been confusing her with someone else.
I'm about to place my order now, she said she was able to find stretchy pink & white houndstooth fabric.
Where do you put the coupon code on etsy? I couldn't find it.

    • 2

Biiumers the bralette looks nice on you btw

    • 1

Prettyncharmeuse In the Etsy cart, to the right of the item there and underneath the payment options, there is a link that says "Apply shop coupon code" that you have to click to open the field box.

Also, I've seen photos of this bralette as a vertical seamed cup on instagram dated 2016. I think that this pleated cup is an updated design.

Pink & White houndstooth fabric sounds ADORABLE

    • Biiumers thanks. I saved $11.75 for the set.

    • 1

I got my set today. I should have listened to you, and sized down. I didn't & the cups are too big. 😖

    • Prettyncharmeuse Aw man, I always hate when that happens. How was the band though? Did she make it to the size you wanted?

    • 1

Biiumers oh, the band was perfect. It's a 28, and there's no hook/eye closure, so it's like a regular bralette.
I'll add pics in a bit.

    • Prettyncharmeuse Did you order a specific size or simply share your measurements? The link houndstooth is adorable! Happy to read the band fit!

    • Love4Pollinators I did both. I asked for 28F, and gave her my measurements (underbust 27, bust 34).
She wants to remake it in 30D, but idk if that'll be too small (in the cups)

    • Prettyncharmeuse What is the houndstooth fabric made of? The galaxy print was made of a rayon spandex, so I think I could have gone down another cup size to a 32:6.

    • 2

    Didn't fit

Very short-waisted, center full, close set, somewhat narrow, immediately projected, shallow apex projection,...

Gorgeous fabric! If you appreciate wildflowers, this fabric beautifully displays rudbeckia, echinacea, dahlias, and a chocolate Rosa rugosa. Among the peach, pink, brown, and ivory, there is a gentle sprinkling of red and blue (neither of those flowers I recognize). This is a stunning, sophisticated use of color!

Florencia uses a Watson Bra-like pattern and is not ideal for my center-full, close-set pair. Whether I make this bra pattern or any other manufacturer makes it, the pattern simply doesn't fit my center-full, close-set breasts. The gore seams sit on my breast tissue all along the gore and ... lower portion of the cup. My sensitive skin protests. I may be able to improve the fit with a gore alteration. The seam ripper, scissors, and sewing machine are ready to help. Otherwise, this is a dynamite pattern. It provides exceptional support in a comfortable and beautiful package.

The band stretches to just 29" and provides excellent support. Another model (Taylor) I ordered from Salem's Scissors stretched to 37". Florencia provides the support I hoped it would whereas Taylor may be better suited for more self-supporting breasts than mine.

The construction quality is excellent. And, the cups of my Florencia are lined with the softest fabric. Cup lining was an alteration I requested. And, Salem's Scissors graciously provided the lining alteration.

My experience with Salem's Scissors has been excellent. If you enjoy mixing fabric patterns and colors, you may enjoy the quirky and sophisticated combination of fabrics she offers. I know of no other place one can purchase a french fry bra. https://d28qt14g3opchh.cloudfront.net/smileys/icon_wink.gif" alt=";-)" /> https://d28qt14g3opchh.cloudfront.net/smileys/icon_wink.gif" alt=";-)" /> And, she has accommodated a short list of alterations.

Not every bra style fits the way I would like, but the designer is responsive, gracious, and flexible. Thankfully, I've found a gorgeous bralette I enjoy wearing.

    • 1

I love that fabric! So pretty!

    • 1

I'm glad she worked with you to give you the bra you wanted! I bet it wouldn't be hard to make the frame flat rather than curved. I've also been experimenting with making bralettes and I think a flat frame might give you better support!

    • 1

cupandahalf :-) I've sewn two of these with less curve at the gore, and still the gore remains a problem. "Flat frame" is my next sewing adventure ;-)
