This was my first attempt at this beautiful lace longline bra. Both the cups and band were too big for me. The band runs true to size for a 30, but the cups run at least half a size to a full size big. The wires are much wider than my Freya padded half cups in this size. The gore is also taller and quite wide, which did not work for my close-set boobs. The 4-part cups are fairly closed on top and projected, so good for full on bottom shapes, but probably would cup in if you're full on top. Other notable features of this bra are really soft and stretchy straps and only 2 columns of 5 hooks. The materials are soft and supremely comfortable, except, in my case, for the wide and tall gore. I loved how it looked so much that I ordered it again in 28FF - Freya » Fancies Longline Bra (1014). I've written up a full review of that bra on my blog.

I'm in love with so much about this bra: the fire engine red, all-over lace is stunning. The materials are lovely and soft. There is ample projection, but the cups also run at least half a size large and somewhat wider than I expected. Unfortunately, it's an incompatible shape for me https://d28qt14g3opchh.cloudfront.net/smileys/icon_sad.gif" alt=":(" /> That red, though! A full review can be found on my blog.

I really really, really wanted to love this bra. But I can't. I like it a lot, but as the other reviewers/owners mentioned, the cups feel really wide. In actuality the wires are narrow. I'd say the wires literally stretch an inch when worn-- measures 4.5 inches (which is too narrow for me), but leaves marks behind my tissue, around the 5.5 inch range.

This color is gorgeous on you!!! Sorry about the wires :-(

    • 2

Ugh, seems like Freya's wires are either too stabby or too flexible :/ Thanks for the thorough review, gave me a very good impression about the bra!

    • 2

Such a cute design but such a disappointing fit. I guess we all have a pretty good idea, with your review to confirm it, about this bra's fit flaws. Hope Freya fixes them!

    • 1

I see you tried replacing the wires with harder ones but they were TOO hard; maybe try with other wires to try to get in the middle?! I feel like a sister size up would stretch out too quickly, and the straps would be even wider. Such a bummer! :/

Btw, I'm so grateful for your reviews, you happen to review all the bras I'm interested in and we're similar in size. :)

My shape: self-supporting teardrop (max projection/depth underneath, tall shallow roots on top, moderate overall projection), center-height, forward facing, very close-set, really wide roots and lots of side boob, and firm tissue that pushes push-ups right back

This review is for the new Candy colorway. It's very sweet! The allover lace is subtle and not lumpy or bumpy, and the edging is simple and effective at dispersing the cup edge under clothes.

But the very first thing I noticed, before even swooping and scooping, is the tall gore. Poke city! It's so bad that it pushes the whole bra down out of my IMF, and there's nothing else that could be ... doing it this time. I plan to swap this one for the 28FF or the 28G, but those wires are going to have to get bent as soon as I try it on.

Speaking of swapping for the 28, the wires pushing down is not ameliorated in the slightest by how stretchy this band is. I am accustomed to Fauve longlines and the Patsy and Ivy I've tried a number of times, all of which are firm and supportive even 2 sizes up from my regular band. This is attributed to the way the taller band can distribute tension, I think, and is one of the many reasons I like them. Not so, the Fancies. It's better on the tightest hook (of which there are only 2 sets, I might add, not 3), but still not enough. Look at those photos! When I pull the band back far enough, I also notice some tension ease on the gore as the wires flex into a better position on my sternum. Hopefully this will all be better with the 28. So basically, ladies, I would definitely recommend sizing down at least one in this band, at least in this cup range. Good grief, Charlie Brown.

Moving on, the cups are great. Wonderful! Dare I say perfect? I can't tell completely because of the gore issue, but I'm 99% certain I have enough immediate depth. This is so rare for me, especially needing half-cups for my upper roots like I do, since they usually run shallow on the draft and my poor boobs just have to make do. There actually might be a titch more room by the inner wire than I need, but it doesn't affect my fit. The top edge barely even buckles when I slouch. Hooray!

The wires are another problem, but this is more because I have an unusual shape at the wings where my side roots are shaped like the Nike swoosh. This is the first time it's been so obvious in the photos, and I do have some tissue around where the cups want to buckle, that's where it kind of tapers off (so while it looks like I have almost an inch gap between the base of my root and the wire, it's more like a cm). The wires would be a great width otherwise (i.e. SUPER WIDE), I think, but they are just too steeply curved for me, and sizing down too much in the cup would probably put the outer end of the wires right on top of breast tissue.

The straps are soft and comfortable, and they adjust long enough. They are too far apart, as always, and it affects how the top edge of the cup stays put, but this is Freya's favorite scaling problem in this size range, so if you were hoping for a fix for this on the Fancies, no luck this time.

    Thank goodness for free returns!

I love long reviews!! This colour is soo pretty.

    • Beautiful!! Does the wire hurt--looks like it is poking your side boob? Mine are quivering in fear, "No! Don't do this to us again." ; -) ;-)

    • 1

"...firm tissue that pushes push-ups right back."

Yep, my tissue also puts a lot of bras in their place. calenlass , lol

      Thanks for the detailed review!

    • 1

Love4Pollinators It doesn't hurt as far as I can tell, but I feel like I might be sort of immune to pain there at this point on account of the weird shape I have going on and the number of bras that don't jive and sit on top, and they just make me feel like I need to readjust every 5 minutes. Also I was VERY distracted by that gore, but I don't remember noticing any pokery or jabbing.

    • I'm glad you aren't in pain!! That gore left angry marks. I can tolerate those for 30 minutes maximum.

    • I will admit I'm surprised I'm not bruised today. It felt like it was stabbing straight in while it was on.

    • Yikes!

I got curious when Freya introduced this new longline style with four-part cups, because their usual (three-part) half cup styles are just a bit too shallow for my shape. I had high hopes for the Fancies and thought that I would finally get the perfect longline, but unfortunately it turned out quite disastrous!

I’m somewhere between 28F-FF for Freya. I decided to go with the smaller size because I got to try a 30F in store, and it felt too big in both the band and cups. It does seem like this cut might actually allow a bit more projection in the bottom of the cups. However, the horizontal ... seam makes the bra much too closed at the top for my FoT shape, and totally minimizes the top of my boobs. As a result, I get quadboob and a really sad “upside-down seven” kind of shape. It looked worse in real life than in the pictures. The wires at the same time are already much too wide (for some reason they don’t measure so wide but it definitely feels like it). The wide gore doesn’t really help the issue.

I’m so sad about the fit because the bra itself looks fantastic! I love the allover lace and pretty details (which don’t really show in my pictures) like the straps and bows. The color looks absolutely amazing too. All of the materials feel very soft, and the cups are very thinly padded. The band seemed to fit well, although it gets minus points for only two rows of hooks.

I also bought the matching brazilian bottom in size XS. I have an older Fancies brazilian in the watermelon colorway, and I was hoping that they would have changed the cut, but no. It looks really good and I like the coverage level, but I have a weird problem: the cotton gusset. It’s weirdly shaped and only sewn in at the corners, which makes the fabric roll up during wear. It doesn’t feel very comfortable! Why, Freya?

With a heavy heart, I returned the whole set. Although Freya’s traditional half cup shape is not so good for me, it’s still better than this new style. The shape really made it unwearable for me. This bra would probably fit better someone with FoB shape and maybe average projection/width.

I get the upside down seven shape in this bra, too. Our reviews are pretty similar. I also found it to run big and cut in sharply on top. Plus it feels super wide even though it doesn't measure it...

    • 1

I'm sorry for this but it really doesn't give a good shape. Also the wires look really wide. Anyway thank you for your helpful review, I now know it probably also wouldn't fit me.

    • letstalkaboutbras I saw your great review too and thought that we had quite similar problems with the bra! It's sad because it's so pretty. :( I'd be interested in seeing a review from someone who it actually fits.

    • AbracaBra I'm glad it was useful! The bra was a big dissapointment for me definitely. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone with FoT/tall roots.

    • 1

Nml817 Yes, me too. It must fit someone ...

    • 1

So it actually might work for my FOB/very short roots, but omg those wires!!!! They look like they're almost on your back! No way could I wear wires that wide. What a shame, it's gorgeous!!

    • 1

This confirms my theory that measurements can't always be trusted.

    • lcl0706 Yeah it would probably work better for you, but those wires are still really wide. :( The cups are also deeper than in the half cup version, however.
erispe It's weird! Maybe the shape of the underwires has something to do with it. Of course a wider gore makes the wires further apart, but still - Comexims with the same width fit perfectly and this one had at least 2cm empty space on both sides.

    • lcl0706 I'm fob with short roots, so it should have worked for me. The wires seen unreasonably wide on given the actual measurements. Surprisingly, they weren't uncomfortable on me and no armpit poking. However the wires are far too soft, and I love Comexim-soft wires. They distort easily; probably why it's wider when worn. What did me in was the gore - wide and tall. I put my short root issues in my review.

    • 1

No clue as to why Freya keeps on making the wide gores, it is a problem for many of us. I really like the brand, especially their swimwear, but their gores are just ruining it all.

    • letstalkaboutbras I didn't even think about wires distorting but you're right, that's probably the case. The bra didn't actually feel uncomfortable for me either.

    • 1

letstalkaboutbras & Nml817 I just got this bra, and while looking at the ra, I noticed the wires are very soft and plaible. I think they're actually plastic, so that would account for why they seem so wide. If they're not plastic, they're very very thin metal.

    • Prettyncharmeuse That's interesting! It would make sense, I guess that Fancies was meant to be a more affordable range (I'm assuming that plastic ones are cheaper). But it still seems like a weird design choice. :/

    • If they are plastic, they sure are sharp on the edges...

    Fits

Honestly, I did not expect the Freya Fancies Longline to fit at all, but I decided to just try it in the name of all things Fancies, and I found it for super cheap on Amazon. Surprisingly, it fits really well, and it looks great! Too bad I’m not a longline fan, or I might find myself wearing these all the time.

The Fancies Longline seems to have the same upper cup as the Fancies Padded Half Cup, which I tried in 30DD but wasn’t sure of the cup fit due to the overly large band. Unfortunately I can’t directly compare the two because sister sizing slightly ... changes the cup proportions, but they do seem to be quite similar. However, while I found the Padded HC’s cups to be a little bit “off” on me, these are spot on. So far, the 4 piece padded cup has been a decent shape for me as long as the wires are flexible. Everything on the cup fits me well, and the wires are comfortable on me as they aren’t super stiff like the ones I’ve encountered on some other Freyas.

The cup is a very rounded version of the 4 piece cup, and I found that this gave me a really great rounded shape. The upper cup is neither too projected nor too shallow, and it doesn’t cut into my tall roots at all. Based on this I think it would definitely be suitable for even shapes with wider roots, and it can definitely work with tall roots. As these HCs tend to run wide, I don’t think it would be suitable for narrow roots.

The entire bra is made from the new, softer Fancies lace, the same quality used on the Padded HC and on the newer Fancies Plunge. The cradle and band are double lined with power mesh for a firm feel. The back has two rows of 5 hooks, and I think this is a miss as 3-4 rows of hooks would’ve been better. The band fits quite snugly and firmly on me, so I would say it is definitely TTS, though there isn’t much flexibility on the fit. Straps are the standard plain wide elastic found on the Fancies Plunge, which is so much better than the narrower quality used on the Padded HC. The center gore is trimmed with the same micro-dot ribbon bow as found on the other styles.

This style really fits me perfectly, but the reason I’m not running to stock up on this style in multiple colors is due to comfort. I just plain hate the feel of longlines, though I can appreciate the look. First, any bra that requires assistance to put on sounds like an insane proposition to me. I have very sensitive skin, and the only way to get this thing on is to hook it in the front and turn the bra around. I find the feeling of this action on my skin to be unbearable. I think this bra should’ve been designed with a side closure for easier accessibility.

Second, though the band is a perfect fit, I get very uncomfortable with compression on my ribcage as it triggers a feeling of panic, like I am going to suffocate. This isn’t a problem in normal snug bra bands, but the additional pressure on my lower ribcage is extremely uncomfortable.

Despite these two issues, I do have a few corsets, longlines, and basques in my collection. While I wouldn’t wear them regularly, they are nice to have around. I really like the fit of this bra and wish they would just chop it off at the bottom to make a normal bra version with a wider, firmer band! Sadly, the similar-looking Padded HC is much less supportive than this style due to the narrow straps and single layer powermesh band, and also doesn’t come in the same size range as this. I find myself coming back to Freya time and time again as so few other brands now produce styles in 28E. While the brand can be hit or miss, I’m very pleased this fits!

This bra is very comfortable but not flattering. The wires are very flexible and distort even when the band is barley stretched. The cup width increases by an inch when stretched. Distorting the wires also distorts the cups making them flat at the top, smashing my boobs. The tall gore is not painful even though it sits on breast tissue because the wires are so soft and pressure is distributed over a larger area. I wonder if they could make a bra with soft wires at the gore and harder wires on the outside because I think that would work for me.

Updated on Jan 07, 2019 Flag this

    • Hmmm. I hate when it is comfortable but looks weird. Do you think that a larger band would have less distortion from the wires?

    • Wire bends even when the band is stretched very little. If I tried a size where the band didn't need to stretch the wires would move around too much.

I had read some negative reviews on this bra but when I went to the UK in September I tried EVERY bra in Bravissimo in my size range. This one is like a breast hug! While it's not technically the best fit, it's very comfortable and is beautiful in the black colorway I have. The band is stretchy, the wires are not firm and the bra gives a SLIGHTLY east-west look, but for my fit preferences and my shape this bra is great for when I need to wear a bra but reallly want to sit in pajamas all day.

Classic lightweight Freya foam and comfort, and previous Freya longline fit issues for me (wide wires, can’t get anywhere near the bottom of the shallow cup, etc. Difference with the fancies one is it really seems to want the boobs further toward the armpits/shoved to the sides and is possibly even more shallow and wide-wired than I remember the other longlines being. Band quite big at first try-on—I’m between a true 32 and 34 and would probably take a 30 for longevity’s sake in this (if they made my cup size)
