I only tried this after reading about it on a bra blog from a user here. It's gloriously minimizing - which is what I want under a loose tee or a button up. My job next year requires white button ups so I've been getting a little desperate to find a "nude" that will work for me. Sheer bras are almost always too sheer for me to use even if they are the right color. This bra is nothing really to look at. The subtle pinstripes are a nice addition. I get some bubbling, along the top of the cup but I'm ... pretty sure that from it being closed off instead of the cup actually being too small. Unfortunately there does not seem to be a good way to remove it. But it's not a big deal since it doesn't show too much clothes anyhow. The straps are comfortable. The band feels like it might ride up but didn't even after wearing it for a whole day. The cups are gloriously narrow. My tissue actually fills out to the underwire except for the top 1/3-1/4 of the cup where the wires are less U shaped than I am. The cup runs big for what I normally consider my size. It's rare for me to wear an E cup - typically I wear an F in a 30 band. I measured the width at 4.8 and depth at 9". I went by the measurements here on bratabase to choose an E. I almost didn't keep it. I'd ordered it from Amazon but then after it working so well under my shirts and I couldn't not keep it

Updated: after having this bra 6 months I'm still wearing it but it slips out of my imf and cuts in slightly at the top. It's bubbling not quadding but I still wish it didn't. It's the best nude tshirt bra I've found though even if it's get uncomfortable after a few hours. The gore is slightly too wide / tall for me and sets on my tissue slightly. I'm still afraid sizing up would be too much. (Edited to add- i tried a 30F and it's too big all over but it still cuts in at top) It's just not especially even/ full on top friendly.

I have this one in 30DD, which is a bit small for me now, but kept it anyway in case of slight weight loss. I also find it minimising, which is good for occasions when one wants to downplay bustyness.

When viewed from the side this bra gives a really nice rounded shape, but from the front, it's wider than I like...the cups are wide and shallow, and they kind of splay my boobs out to the sides, inside of keeping them front and center. The shallowness of the cups means my bottom heavy shape can't fill out the bottom of the cups, resulting in the wires sitting lower than they should on my ribs. I also get wrinkling fabric in the cups underneath my armpits, as the cups/wires are just too wide.

Aside from being the wrong shape, the cups seem the right size, and the gore sits ... on my sternum, UNTIL I do "the scoop", and then the cups are too small (I get quad) and the gore sits away from my sternum.

Unfortunately the bra is not lined or padded, so it has no protection for show-through. One thing I do really like about this bra is how the straps are attached to the back band: they are more centered in the back, which completely eliminates slipping straps (at least for me).

I purchased this when I was first figuring out the whole "proper fitting" thing, and it worked for me for a month or so until I gained more bra wisdom and found a better fit. If the bra is compatible with your shape, I can see how it would be quite comfortable. Unfortunately, it's found it's way into my unusable pile, and I'm currently looking to re-home it to a more compatible wearer.

    • Could you please explain what differences you found between the Fantasie Esme and Smoothing 4520? The two seem so similar in design (barring the center-pull straps on the Esme) that I don't understand why the same brand would offer both. I have the Esme in 30F, and it's almost perfect; However, I wish the gore was a bit narrower and that the shape was a bit perkier.

I'm wondering whether to try the 4520, since you said the gore tacked better on you. Can you comment on the specific fit differences between the two bras?

    • I actually haven't worn the Esme for a couple months now. I came to realize the cups on it aren't deep enough for me; as I wear it the wires and cups slowly ride down (even though the band is tight enough), which is caused from the breast tissue pushing it down to get a deeper fit for the bottom of the breast, if that makes sense.

The 4520 is a decent fit on me as the cups are deeper...I do have to adjust it a bit more than my molded Cleo's (favorites!), but I mainly wear it just with shirts that need a tan bra underneath. It does tack excellently, whereas the Esme gore does not touch my sternum at all.

The Esme gives me a very round, yet somewhat minimized appearance from the side, but looks wider when viewed from the front. In contrast, the 4520 is less round and more projected when viewed from the side; I feel it's a tiny bit pointy, although I asked my mother and she doesn't agree with me. Anyway, the 4520 from the front does not look wide at all, which I really appreciate. Thinking about it, I do think the 4520 has a perkier shape.

This is all from memory, but if you have any other questions I can always dig Esme out of the drawer. ;)

    • Thanks! That's really helpful. The Esme was the first bra I got in my "real" size, so I was really happy with the fit at first. Like you though, I've noticed that the gore almost but doesn't quite tack. The bra doesn't exactly slide down me, but it does feel a bit odd as the day wears on. It sounds like the 4520 might work better for me too.

    • Are there any other bras that you don't have the sliding strap issue?

Like all Fantasie's (just like Freya's) the band is long for a 32, can wear it on the tightest set of hooks and then the band feels great. I can't really tell if the cup fabric stretches or not, if they do, it barely does. I'm surprised this fits as well as it does on my uneven and pointy breasts.

This is far from the perfect bra for me but I've kept it because it serves a very useful purpose.

I ordered this in my usual Fantasie size – a 30F – and while it fits, I kind of have to wrangle my breasts into it. The problem is that while I do fill the cups, I have to shove my breasts down into them in order to fill the bottom and avoid a bit of quadboob at the top. Of course, as the day wears on, everything shifts and I'm left with space at the bottom of the cup and double-bubble at the top. The other problem is ... that the band is much tighter than Fantasie's usual 30 band, so for the time being at least, I'm having to wear an extender. And problem #3 is that the wide wires gives a much more east-west (and therefore minimized) profile than I like most of the time (except under loose/flowy tops where this can be an asset).

So why did I keep the bra considering all this? Well, I like the fact that it's seamless, which in the summer is great when wearing thin tops. And the nude colour is a perfect match to my fair skin tone. But really, the selling/keeper factor of this bra is the straps: they're positioned closer together than most bras, which is a god send for my narrow shoulders. I struggle less with straps slipping than I do with them chafing my armpit/shoulders. This bra doesn't do that. Moreover, Esme's close-set straps can easily be pulled in closer to my neck (and they'll stay put like that all day!) which is great under some tanks and sleeveless tops wherein I don't want my bra strap showing.

So whereas this bra definitely has its problems, I've kept it or at least until I find a better option – a (fair) nude, seamless bra with close-set straps. They're hard to come by, trust me!

    • I'm not sure how the band runs on this model (you would have to sister size to a 32DDD), but Natori's Understated T-Shirt bra reminds me pretty strongly of the Esme's strap positioning (though from what I've seen the straps are thinner on the Natori). It comes in a pretty fair nude. I haven't gotten my hands on one in my size to test it out yet for other issues, though.

Good golly that is a tight band! There is no way my poor 30" ribcage could possibly fit in this thing. Though I did make a best effort to hold it in place in order to judge the rest of the fit. The fabric on the cups is also very stiff, it felt almost like a sports bra. The top of the cups were too tight for me, and I was spilling out of the sides above the end of the wire.

May be good for those with smaller ribcages, but I would recommend sizing up in the cup.

It's a good work bra and a nice UW lounge round the house bra. It's by no means pretty, I have the nude though I see on the Fantasie site they now have a nice red.
The wires are about 1cm too short for the casing which is a minor peeve.

I tried on the 32FF (I think) and the 32G (I know) in this bra. I poof over the top of the 32G, so Breakout Bras sent the 32GG. The top of the cup fits great, I don't poof, however, I don't quite fill the cup. The wires don't sit under my breast, but rather half an inch below, on my ribs... I can't adjust it so that the breasts sit against the wire. It is comfortable enough, though I'm not sure it would remain so. I've got an email in to the fitter at Breakout Bras to ask.

However, if it is right for you, it's a nice bra, simple, but not super-plain.

This is my absolute favorite everyday work bra. It holds the breasts in close to the chest, giving a very smooth, rounded, almost "minimized" appearance. Although this may not be everyone's cup of tea, I love the fact that it allows me to fit into many tops that are normally off limits.

    Pros:
    - Very, very comfortable; the most comfortable I've ever worn.
    - Invisible under clothes; lovely round shape.
    - Nice firm band. I've been wearing it every other day for a month and no sign of stretch yet.

    Cons:
    - Definitely not a sexy bra. Not by any stretch of the imagination https://d28qt14g3opchh.cloudfront.net/smileys/icon_smile.gif" alt=":)" />.
    - Fairly wide look from the front - doesn't really pull you in at the sides.

I love this bra's straps - they're moved in at the back so they fit narrower. I also like the beige color - it is warmer and more yellow than my current "nudes."

Unfortunately just not the best fit, but hard to nail down why. I get some quadding if i swoop and scoop, but also there is a small gape by the gore and wrinkling sometimes. I think the gore is a bit wide. The wires are hard and painful for me.
