  1. Ellace Balcony Bra (CK4401)

My shape: close set, center full, full on bottom, average/narrow width roots, tall shallow roots, soft tissue.

I've been meaning to write this review for a long time, and I must say, the more times I wear this bra, the more I like it. This bra was recommended to me here on Bratabase and I'm glad I could get it.

The cup is a three part cup with one vertical seam and one horizontal seam. The stretch lace up top is accommodating and fits me well throughout the month as my breasts fluctuate in size. The top seam doesn't cut in either which is nice. I get a small ... wrinkle on the side with this bra (on my the right side which is smaller) but this doesn't bother me. I tried the 32F size and it gave me a lot more wrinkles both on the side and at the top of the stretch lace. The wires okay, a little bit flexible, but not too much. Definitely not as hard as Panache bras!

It gives me a more natural shape, which I have come to love. It's definitely not as rounded as some of the other bras I have, but I still feel uplifted in it. This bra stays put in my IMF pretty much all day so it gives me great support.

The gore width is a little larger than I'd like, if it had overlapping gores if would be perfect. I sort of push my center tissue out into the cup so the gore can tack and lay flat. The gore height is okay (around 2.8" or ~7cm).

About the band, it is pretty firm! I had trouble in the beginning getting used to it. It has a firm elastic running its entire length and I couldn't get the band to stretch a lot for the measurements. The stretched band measurements for the four 32 bras I tried were 28", 28.3", 29.3" and 29.5" (around 71-75 cm). The 30 band size I tried also stretched to 28". So all the bras I tried definitely ran a bit small in the band.

The straps are nice and firm and adjust nicely. They can go super short or long and are fully adjustable.

About its overall look, there's nothing really special about it. It's just a nice regular bra, no fancy embroidery or patterns. It has more of a practical and functional look in the sense that it only has three little bows adorning it. It would be nice to see this bra made in some nice patterns, maybe even another type of fabric. Overall, this was a bra win for me!

Sometimes, the "nice, regular" bras are the best bras...they serve and serve and because they fit so well, they make us feel the best! Celebrate the win. It looks great on you.

I agree. I actually really love the Ellace aesthetic.

    • We seem to have a lot of similarities (full on bottom but tall roots). I'm waiting on a prime wardrobe order that includes this bra and I can't wait to try it!

    • Bootyfoots I hope you like it! Curvy Kate also has a new model, it's called the "Top Spot" that's supposed to be like the Ellace too. This one: http://bra.pe/MHz1/

    Didn't fit

First of all, the trim and ribbons are definitely for funtimes, not for wearing under shirts. I'm not sure I have much of anything I'd wear this out under.

It fits okay at the loosest hooks, but it makes me feel soft and bulgy and I'd need to tamper with the wire to make it comfortable at the sternum.

It's more of a plunge than a balconette, and I think my boobs are too soft/bottomheavy for plunges. The band also smooshes skin and back fat unlike any other bra I own, and I don't have much back fat to smoosh.

Fits best in the band and underwire when the straps are pretty loose, but at that point the top of the cup sits away from the breast where the cup attaches to the strap. On the other hand, if I hoick up the straps it bulges my backfat more and breast starts spilling over the cups towards the center

It's cute. It seems well-constructed. It's just not shaped for me.

So close. So close, I feel like if I just keep fiddling with the straps, tweaking the wire, readjusting my breasts, there must be a way to make it work. But it's just not quite right, and unless a miracle happpens in the wash sometime I don't think it ever will be.

The band is too tight. The wires don't go high enough under the arm, and poke into my sides. I'm not sure what's going on in the cups.

If the straps are loosened enough to for the top edge to lie flat along the top of the breast, the cups wrinkle at bottom. If I ... pull the straps tight enough to support the breast from below, the cups wrinkle towards the strap and quadboob appears at the top edge. I can find a compromise between these points, but the band is still too tight.

I think my breasts are just too soft for this style. It's a cute design, but it doesn't provide the support I need and I'm not sure the actual "criss-cross" part can look right on breasts that aren't very full on top.

My shape: close set, center full, full on bottom, average/narrow width roots, tall shallow roots, semi soft tissue.

I love the way this bra looks, love the polka dot design and the criss-cross detail at the gore. I am super bummed this bra doesn't fit at all.

First of all, I really need to remeasure myself since it's been a while, but I don't think sizing down in this style would work. The cups are a bit closed off on top, they curve inward a little too much for me and cut into my tall shallow roots. So I still get a quad boob effect even though the cups ... are too big for me. I can't fill them out at all. There's too much space at the apex for me and I get a bullet type shape (could just be because it's too big). There's lots of space on the sides, but not enough in the middle.

The band is okay on first and second set of hooks, but even with little bit of stretch the cups and wires distort so much! Not sure if this is a manufacturing defect or not, my other Curvy Kate bras don't have wires like this. Although this is a 32" band size, it did not stretch to this at all. It stretches to just over 30" okay.

Overall, big disappointment, too big, too closed off on top, hated the shape, so this is going back.

All my CK bras have fit issues... I have tall roots and soft tissue and tops of the cups always cut in. Shape varies from 'ok' to 'upside down 7'. I wonder if their padded balconies would fit me but I gave up on their unpadded styles

    • 1

I totally get what your saying! While I love the fit of the Ellace on me, it's definitely not as uplifted and round as my Ewa Michalak bras for instance, they're sort of magic, lol :D I haven't tried their padded bras either, only a few unlined styles.

Me: 30F/32E. Center full, close set, relatively even when supported, tall-ish roots. Not particularly narrow - average to wide roots. Soft tissue. Shoulders are on the slightly narrow side so some balconettes have straps that are too wide for me.

This bra: Weird. Just... weird. Scuba material made a "faceted" shape instead of smooth. The wires were too narrow and came up too low under the arm. Worked okay for center fullness and close set, though, so may work better for narrower roots.

I <3 this bra. It is so cute/pretty. I really like the color combination. :)

    • Oof. Jj how do I make the 'fits' star disappear? I marked this bra as not fitting anymore (quadboob and band riding up) and it still says that it fits...

    • I see this causing lots of confusion.

It shows as fitting because it fit you at some point.
Some user today may have the same measurements that you did when this fit, so it will be useful for them when they see that this bra fits you, they will go to see what else fit you next to this and see what else worked. On this particular case you didn't mark anything else as fitting when this bra worked for you.

If the star wasn't showing, then a user may never know that this bra ever fit you and they won't bother to see what else works with this bra, regardless of when in time that happened.

Until I decide how to address that, (it's been an ongoing issue for the last 6+ years) you could update your review indicating that as of ### date fit is different.

    • Jj I sure know it, but my other bras ( such as 32F - Freya » Deco Hatty Moulded Plunge Bra (1281) ) which did fit me in the past no longer bear a star, though they still show what bras fitted me when those no-longer-fitting bras were fine for me. I think it skews my Recommentadtions very much, since before I marked my bras non-fitting I had about 30 recommendations, and now when I added a few fitting (very popular models) and I still have this Flaunt bra marked as fitting I have one recommendation.

This is my first bra that actually fits using my proper measurements. So far I really like it- even if the color is a bit wild for me. https://d28qt14g3opchh.cloudfront.net/smileys/icon_wink.gif" alt=";)" /> I wish it had a little more padding, and was a bit less sheer through the top, but it shapes me very well and is leaps and bounds more comfortable than I could have expected. My smaller side (right) tends to get rubbed a bit by the fabric and gets red after a long day though, might need a different model/brand. Overall a great bra!

I put this on and my first thought was, "What? Noooooo." I've had dozens of bras on in the last few weeks, and this was the first one I thought looked genuinely ugly on me. It somehow both smashed in my (admittedly soft) breast tissue causing discomfort, but also had wrinkling on the top diagonal panel. Neither of my nipples were either where I thought they should sit in the bra or near the same location. Most bras I've tried on twice to see if it need a second impression, but this one really truly did not. It was an immediate return.

Me: Close set, even and relatively full when supported, somewhat projected but average to wide roots (some tissue towards my underarm/side). Soft tissue. Possibly tall roots, idk.

This bra was almost a perfect fit except for slight in-cup quadding - the seam running from the gore to the strap cuts in. It's visible under stretchy tank tops. So I think it may be a better fit if you're not too full on top. At the same time it seems like it's a good cut for shallow but tall-ish roots because I had some empty space under the strap area.

My shape: close set, center full, full on bottom, average/narrow width roots, tall shallow roots, soft tissue.

This bra looked so promising, but it's just too small. The cups are too small, there's not enough combined width + depth for my breast tissue and it cuts in like crazy! I actually think it's very closed off on top, which might work for other people. I do want to try a 32F/32FF to see what the fit is like. There aren't any measurements yet for either of those sizes, so I'm not sure what to expect. Hopefully it's not too closed up on top to cut in and give me ... quad boob.

I like the overall look of this bra and I love the dotted mesh fabric on the bottom of the cup and on the gore. This makes it looks simple and unassuming, yet makes it distinguishable enough from the typical lace.

The band feels good by itself on loosest hooks (upside down and backwards), and the straps are fully adjustable which is always a plus.

Not much to say here except I hope to try the bigger cup sizes to compare to this one.

This bra: Has a nice low gore and room for center fullness. However, the shape is more "natural" than I would prefer for my soft tissue. My boobs pointed very east-west and there wasn't a lot of lift. The shape was mildly conical. I think it would work pretty well under clothes, though.

This bra is really cute, however it’s way too big on me (I think I received a mislabeled bra because when I compare the measurements entered here, the cup depth is much too large and I can fit my whole hand in the top part). I initially got this because the gore seemed low enough to maybe work, but it is too separate and sits on my breast tissue. The straps are pretty wide, a little bit wider and they would definitely be a problem.

If you add photos of you wearing the bra, "we" can help guide you to find bras that will suit you better ;)

If you're close set and center full, CK most likely won't work. They have wide gores (like most UK brands) and not much projection at the wire.

    • 1

Thank you AprilGoulding that’s very kind of you! I don’t think I have pics for this bra, but I do have for a Freya bra I tried this week that almost fit perfectly, just the gore and band were the problem. I will try to post those for a fit help. I am definitely still trying to figure out my shape, I may be way off, lol!

    • 1

If gores are a problem, I suggest going to Polish bras...Gorsenia, Ewa Michalak. You'll find narrow wires and space for center fullness.
For reference, IF a UK bra were to ever fit me, I'd be 30F/FF. Which is the sister size to 32E.
In Gorsenia and EM I wear 65G.

    • 1

Princess is a hard bra to fit, from what I understand. AprilGoulding i tend to disagree. I am center full and close set and the Ellace fits me well (when I have the right size...mine is too small now). It is dependent upon the style, I think. Some are wide and shallow and others are narrow and projected.

    • AprilGoulding Thank you. Yes, I’ve been thinking about that option! I think some polish bras may work well, just daunting to have to order. I’m thinking of ordering from Magda since she helps so many users here. I finally got the courage to post a bra fit request here: http://bra.pe/T7v/

    • Calluna I like the look of the Ellace too. It's actually on my list to try, thank you for reminding me. From what I saw here on batabase though, the gore comes up very high, but maybe it could still work! Honestly, I'll try pretty much anything if I can get it and return it since I'm trying to figure out my shape still. I posted a bra fit request here (finally got the courage!): http://bra.pe/T7v/ This is wearing a Freya bra, I deleted the pics from me trying on this bra since it was so big. I realize now that maybe I should have kept them to compare.

    • 1

A higher gore can actually be better than a lower one for close set breasts IF it is narrow enough.

    • 1

My Ellace gore was shorter than my Marcie gore and I think both are the same width at the top. Have you also considered reverse scooping to get any trapped tissue back into the cup instead of under the wire? I know that with my Marcie, I have a tiny bit of wires sitting on tissue but it’s not a huge fit issue for me as it does not hurt.

    • 1

Calluna Thank you for suggesting reverse scooping! I didn’t even think of trying that. I will try doing that with some of the new bras I ordered.

One of the worst bras I tried. First of all, the quality of the bra I got looks very cheaply made, with dropped stitches, and fraying threads in the cup. The top seam cuts into my roots and one of the mid seams gives me in-cup quadding which I had never experienced before. The height of the gore is not bad, I still wish it was shorter and more closer together for me.

I was hoping this bra would fit like my Comexim basic plunge in 65HH. They have similar widths and depth but don't fit the same at all. Kitty bra has very little room at the wire and the fullest part is in the upper part of the cup. While the basic expects less upper fullness and has more room at the wire. I am only able to fill out the bottom of the cups so I returned this bra. It could work for someone full on top. The band is slightly tighter then a 32 and cups are true to size. Its a lovely wine color with some sparkly thread details.

I bought this bra in the melon/apple color, and it's BEAUTIFUL. So I am disappointed that this does not fit. I suspect that the cups are too shallow for my amount of projection and/or shape. The band is perfect, straps adjust well, and it sits right at my IME and not on my stomach. However, there's a LOT of wrinkling in the cups on the side and at the top, as well as gaping at the top. It wouldn't even be hidden under heavier fabric. This bra might be good for those who have more volume on top or are moderately shallow.

I took a chance on this one. The measurements weren't too far off, but the fit is completely different than I expected.

The wires are slightly narrow on me, and they do flex when stretched, so not terribly uncomfortable. But certainly not an ideal fit. The 3/4" wide gore gives nice separation while not being too tall to sit on my close-set shape. The non-stretch cups have nice projection but are very closed up top and consequently they quad on me severely (Not that I'm very full on top, but it does seem better suited for full on bottom). The band is also shorter than I prefer, plus it's only a single layer mesh.
