      Love your alteration!!

    • 2

That photoshopped model pic is something else! You'd think people would be upset when they buy it expecting to look like that and then return it when they don't.

      Sorry about the creeper. Yuck!

    • 1

      Excellent review. Thanks!

    • 1

      Love4Pollinators , learningaboutbras Thank you both :)

finallygotboobs Well, I was a bit shocked when I got this bra. I thought it's a padded plunge, because I hadn't paid much attention to the description. But I wasn't disappointed at all, I was like "wooooooooow, bralette in bra sizes, woohoo" :D

    • 3

finallygotboobs I think alot of people are disappointed when their boob don't look like the photoshoped pic but blame their boobs for not being the right shape rather then unrealistic photos. That was my thoughts when I first tried VS bras.

    • 1

violetknight I'm old and fat so I know I'm not going to look like any model, but it hurts my heart that beautiful young women are comparing themselves to such unrealistic images and finding fault with themselves.

    • 1

      finallygotboobs
You are a beautiful person with a beautiful heart, so please never refer to yourself as old or fat! It's simply not true!
I agree with the rest of your comment about our views of body image and expectations.
It's the barbie syndrome, amplified by media and marketing, and it is heart breaking. We are all beautiful in our own way-unique and differently perfect. Life (and visual stimulation) would be bland if we weren't different. One man's ( or woman's) opinion of beauty is thankfully different from another's. This is what we should teach our children-not to succumb to media delusions.

    • 2

MamaPagan thanks for saying I have a beautiful heart, that means more to me than you could know.

I realize the terms "old" and "fat" carry perjorative connotations. I disagree with that. I wouldn't go around telling other people they're old or fat but when I describe myself that way it's an attempt to take those terms back to neutral.

I am actually old (62, so one of the older users here) and at 5'3" and at least 55 lbs. overweight actually fat. That's just telling it like it is. I feel good about my looks for where I am in life.

Just for giggles I did a gis on "old fat model". As you might expect, lots of young models who are called fat but aren't, a few young models who are actually plus size (not a 6' US size 12 that so many companies call plus size) and a few slender older models. Even a gis of "older plus size model" didn't show me anyone close to my age who was actually plus size.

    • 1

finallygotboobs I was writing the comment with almost the same things that you wrote when my computer shut down. I think that there's nothing wrong in saying we're old or fat, because there's nothing wrong in being old or fat. It's okay as long as we are the person who says it and it's neutral. So, I couldn't agree with you more that we need to say it loud to make it something normal, not an insult.

MamaPagan I totally agree with what you wrote about uniqueness. I'm a bit plump in the bottom part of my body which is unacceptable in the world of the promotional photos like the one in my blog post, but I wouldn't like to have skinny legs like all the models have (or they seem to have in these pictures). The beauty understood as having the model look is overrated :D

ASOS, why won't I learn? Each time I come to you, my heart full of hope for elusive 30 bands, my eyes on your enticing lace, shapes, colors. My heart lusting after your low, low prices....

I am a 28G/30FF, but this 30GG is too small. And, yet, I keep trying.

So, ASOS, I forgive you. It is not your fault; it is my fault. The definition of crazy is doing the same thing over and over again, and hoping for something different to happen.

      This review is beautiful. :-D

    • I love Asos for their inclusive size range but buying lingerie and shoes from them is a big no-no for me.
In a lot of photos their models are wearing poorly fitting bras so it's already saying something, right?..

This bra is a pleasant surprise! I bought it for the appearance (I have an obsession with velvet right now) and I wasn't expecting a good fit. I had heard ASOS bras were quite wide and shallow, but this is reasonably narrow and projected--at 5.75" wide and 9" deep, it's not that far off from my other bras, which impressed me for a fashion brand. The cup is also very short, which is perfect for me! It's the first half padded bra I've tried that doesn't give me an awkward ridge where the sections meet.

My one problem with it is the band is not very sturdy. Wing height is very short and although it's pretty true to size, it rides up because it doesn't have any boning or isn't made of a strong material like most full bust bras are. They seem to have improved the construction of their cups, I hope they will work on improving the construction of their bands next!

wild_muses you're a horrible influence! This such a cool looking bra and I love velvet. How would you rate the projection?

    • 2

gratiat :P projection is okay, fairly average I'd say.

    • 1

I just looked for it and sadly they are sold out of my size. I think more companies need to jump on this velvet lingerie trend. It's good to hear that Asos is taking feedback into consideration and altering their fit accordingly.

Comexim has two bras that are made partially of velvet :) I too love velvet.

    • Veritas which Comeximbras are those? Do they still make them?

    • 1

cupandahalf Yes. Comexim Green Velvet (discontinued), Comexim Belle de Nuit and Anna Pardal Reina, if I recall correctly. But they use velvet accents in a lot of bras.

Finally got a new blog post up. This was a surprise in some ways, a disappointment in others. It's TTS, unlike most other ASOS tops, so hello-too-big-on-me. Some nips and tucks make it workable, however. It's definitely not a longline and I don't know why ASOS keeps marketing non-longline bikini tops as longlines. By far the most immediately projected ASOS top I've met yet. Snagged the last one in the outlet section for a song! Full review on the blog.

I just realized that I never measured this before returning it. https://d28qt14g3opchh.cloudfront.net/smileys/icon_sad.gif" alt=":(" />
Ahh alas, I have disappointed myself.
I keep planning to review models on my blog (such as this) and include messurements, but for some reason I can't keep my reviews under 3 hrs and that deters me from even starting.
No wonder I never did well with timed writing tests. XD

    Anyway!
So this swim top was on sale for $15 from ASOS and with the luck I had with my previous ASOS bikini of a similar style, I decided I wanted to try it.

This one didn't really make the cut.
Firstly, the band was a ... bit more snug and to boot, it had silicone lining. Now on a swim top that doesn't even have removable straps, there is seriously no need for silicone lining. At all. Silicone irritates the crap out of my skin, especially on a tighter band. I can't deal with it at all when the top has gotten wet; it makes me itch like crazy.

Besides that, the cups weren't nearly as projected in this swim top as in my previous one in 30E. They could probably handle average projection and I'm all projection.
However, I did also suspect that because the band felt a little too snug that this may have been causing the cups to appear smaller as well. In my 32D with different fabric I don't have the same problems with depth at all.

The width was narrow and I would have estimated it at about 4.5". I do still have the 32D that is basically identical; they are both "50's Halter" styles and besides the fabrics, the cuts really were identical down to the cup width and depth. The only difference is the band size.
With that said, after I've included measurements for the 32D, if anyone does want an idea of what the 30DD fits like, the Digital Floral 50's Halter Bikini in 32D should give a pretty decent estimate.

The next thing that killed this for me was the gore; In my 30E, the gore was super narrow and overall the bikini top was very similar to Freya Deco. This is just a completely different model that looked kind of similar on their website. The gore had to have been over 1" wide and sat on top of my tissue.

This ended up being so much cuter in person too. I'm really unhappy about the fit as I wanted to keep it after receiving it. I almost cancelled the order initially, and I got it and felt so excited, but the fit was just not good.
I consideded just keeping it, but I decided to just send it back before it was too late.

So, I will be keeping an eye out for models that look more identical to my "bright floral" ASOS bikini that I just recently sold. That one was such a good fit, just getting too big.

With all of that said, I would recommend sizing up in the band with the 50's Halter Bikinis, unless you aren't bothered by silicone or a pretty tight band. I'm not sure how these bikinis turn out after some wear, but my 32D was used and still feels like 30-31".
I believe this one was 29-30", but it just felt plain uncomfortable. I would have recommended it for a 27-28" UB, and I'm currently back at about 29-30".

Additionally, the cups would work for anyone who needs narrow wires and a little projection- not an extreme amount.
Also anyone who is not super close set, whether naturally or when lifted into a bra.
The cup distance just doesn't accommodate for more tissue near the gore.

Otherwise, the 50's Halter style is super cute. I just wish there could be some improvements.

    Didn't fit

I was able to try on this bikini top with a very similar style in black. The black longline bikini had vertical seams, slight downward points, with boning under the center of each breast.

This bikini - the Mix and Match Spot Longline Bikini Top - doesn't have that. And it's more comfortable than the other too.

I mostly wear 30GG bras but, as this style is only available up to a G, I bought the 32G. It's simply too large in the band and not deep enough in the cup. The style isn't a good match for my shape either - I find the center gore is too broad ... and the cups in this bikini are too wide.

Otherwise, I was quite happy with the bikini and was tempted to keep it. The colour isn't quite as flattering in person - it's a bit cheap looking in my opinion - more bright lime than apple green. I think the models from the Asos website have great fake tans and maybe that's what you need to make this very bright colour work.

This bralette is surprisingly comfy and supportive!
The cups hold me in pretty well and I like the black-on-off-white polkadots and lace straps.
The back design makes it extra pretty but the placement also creates extra comfort, as it changes the pressure points where the straps attach compared to a regular bra.

The narrow back band seemed at risk of cutting in / being unsupportive / sliding upwards but actually it stays in place pretty well.
Some fumbling with the back closure as it's a large upside down vertical U-hook, instead of the classic small 'horizontal' bra hooks.

As part of ASOS' fuller bust range, this came in bra sizes ... and the 32G was a good choice I think. Had to mark it as 'didn't fit' though, because technically there are some issues (more design-related than size-related I think). There's a bit of east-westiness going on due to the cup's placement - most coverage is on the outer breast tissue which 'pulls' me outward a bit. I think center full + soft tissue folks may fall out.

Despite these minor fit issues I've worn it a lot, mostly around the house but it also performed fine on small errands.
No longer available sadly, and I wish I bought the matching briefs!

There are two major problems with this bra fitting me. One is that the band is WAY too tight. The other is that the perimeter of the cups, made of band material, cut in tighter than the cups themselves, creating quad boob, when the measurements of the bra suggest the cup SHOULD fit me.

    ASOS, you've failed again!

Such a beautiful bra! Why can't Asos get the sizes right? I'll try it in another size, but I won't get my hopes up. In general, Asos bras run small, so order two cups up. The bands are unpredictable. Some 30s are right on, some very small, some very big.

This is the Fuller Bust Emma velvet & lace padded plunge underwired bra. I cannot fathom the Asos sizing system. Sometimes bands are too loose, sometimes not. This band was tight/normal. The cups were too small for me (at a 30H! which is larger than my normal size), so I can't really say anything about that. Try ordering two sizes up. But I did like the bra, and wished it had fit!

The band runs very large. With the total stretch in mind, it is closer to a 38 and the wires bend very easily.
But the bra has comfortably narrow underwires and a good standard projection, so I would say it is made for the average larger bust.
The fabric is very comfortably soft and feels nice to wear. I would keep it on, if it would not slip over my breasts in the front because of the large band. It is also very stretchy in general.
I suspect the cups run small as well, but I am not the best of judge in that department because I have not yet found my ideal standard size. Through the large band they appear to fit, but they seem to be about a cup too small for me.

The brand @Asos has a unique approach to bra making and measuring, so I'm still not sure if the size I'm wearing in their bras can be improved upon. Their bands stretch A LOT and their cups run small. A tight measurement (tightest it can go, not the wearable measurement) around my underbust gives me a 31" at most but a 30" band is still too loose and needs to be fastened on the tightest hook to not slide down my back. Here the straps need to be at the tightest too, not because the band is too loose but because even at uncomfortable tightness around the ribcage, ... the bra needs to rely on the straps to stay put.
The cups have a weird quality as well because they start to fold just above the band, as if I couldn't fill them out quite enough, which I actually do, the quality is just off with this model.
The underwires themselves lie fully flat but the gore doesn't tack which I also attribute to the quality because the underwires stop just before the gore ends and there is nothing to keep the gore in place.
The bra looks really nice though and since parts do seem to stretch out over time I am sure I can get good looking outifts with it. This bra just isn't the right bra the lounge in since the support is nearly non-existent if not on the tightest of hooks.
