Didn't fit

This Izzy is a pretty bra and fairly comfortable, which is saying a lot since I think it's probably at least one and maybe two cup sizes too small for me. My biggest issue is that the underwires are too short, and they cut/poke into my underarm breast tissue. (I'm approaching menopause and fat, and my breasts are pendulous, but my breast roots have always stretched into the underarm areas.) Also, there's no side-support boning in this bra, which I probably need. So rather than get this same bra in a bigger cup size, I'm going to look for a similar-cut model that includes better side-shaping.

Otherwise, I like this bra and it still fits better than any of my other bras (which are 42DDDs; I hesitated to jump up two cup sizes, but now I wish I had). I got it cheap enough on ebay, so I will keep it to wear until I have a few very well-fitting bras, and I may then just remove the underwires for a comfy and pretty around-the-house bra.

  • A DDD in American bras is the same as an E cup. UK sizing doesn't do DDD's, they call them E's. So you actually didn't go up any cup sizes.

Ah, that explains a lot. Thanks.

  • no problem. Did you do your measurements? If you want to go up one cup from your current DDDs, you'd look for F's. 2 cups is FF.

  • Yes, my tight rib measurement is 41.5 and my bust measurement is about 48-49, depending on the bra I'm wearing. The underwire on that Elomi is much, much smaller than the one on the 42DDD Playtex bras I've been wearing, though, so I may indeed look for an FF. Thanks for the input.

  • Do your overbust without a bra on - standing, bent over at the waist, and lying flat. Those are the parameters ABTF on Reddit uses - they also have an excellent bra size calculator. Do a perimeter measurement as well, BTB has a measurement guide that should walk you through that. Bras, especially poorly fitting ones, can distort your overbust measurement.

I've read about many different ways to measure, including the ABTF guide, but I've gotten pretty varied results at different sites. However, based on your recommendation, I just went through the ABTF guide again and it suggests a 42F/FF, so that will be my next purchase. I wish I could afford to order a handful of bras to try on at a time, but for now, I'll start with two. My town is quite small, so ordering online is my only option.

Now I just have to decide what style to try out first.

    Thanks for your help.

  • You're welcome and I totally get the online thing. It's frustrating, I live in a tiny town and am on a budget too. But I had F/FF in my head for you and glad the ABTF calculator agrees. I think it's a good starting point!
