I am a recent bratabase convert and have a lot to learn about bra-fit principles and best practices. So take what I say with a grain of salt. I bought this bra in two sizes, 42GG and 40GG. I first bought the 42GG and thought it was too big (but kept it anyways). So I sized down to a 40GG. This review is for both sizes.

The Matilda is a 4-part (counting the side panel) underwire plunge bra. The side panel and the lower cups are non-stretch fabric and the top cups are non-stretch sheer panel with “stunning beaded lace embroidery”. There is also an “opulent silver ring detailing”. Both the “stunning” and “opulent” elements are a tad cheesy so you should not get too excited about them. The non-stretch sheer panels might seem a little flimsy (it is a single layer bra) but it works well for me, but I am not full-on-top and I do not need as much support where the fabric seems flimsy. (Flimsy is not the best word to use, but I am leaving it). This will be a good bra to wear in the summer time. I do think that the non-stretch element is what saves the day.

Both of my Elomi Matilda bras are my favorite bras. Both the 40GG and the 42GG seem to fit, both are comfortable, and both give me the support, lift and shape that I want. This speaks well for the flexibility of the design of this bra because I have two different sizes that are not sister sizes and I am satisfied with both. Two thumbs up.

  • I see you also tried Carmen, and are going to go up in the cup. How do you think this compares to the Carmen? It is currently my favourite bra, in 42G. It fits pretty well, but perhaps needs a bit more projection at the wire for me. I'm thinking of trying it in 42GG as well. Do you think Matilda might work for me too? It is pretty. I tried the pink in store, but they only had 42HH, which was far too big. Any advice is appreciated.

  • Thanks for your comment. I really liked the Carmen! The fabric was nice and the color was really pretty (red poppy). Unfortunately the cup was too small on the side. I read at herroom that you should go up one cup size (i read this after I ordered the vra). The fabric of the carmen seemed alot sturdier then the fabric on the Matilda. Although the Matilda's fabric was non-stretch whiich helped it to be sturdier. I only tried on the carmen but I liked it. Yes, i think you should try the Matilda.

  • Carmen in red poppy is such a lovely colour, isn't it! I've read a few reviews where people didn't like the fabric, saying it was too stiff, scratchy and felt cheap. Personally, I quite liked it. My boobs are quite soft so I need firm, non-stretch fabric at the bottom to keep them contained and locked down. I have really short roots, so the stretch at the top, especially the elastic, suits me fine. Have you seen the new style coming in either December or Jan, the Maya? It looks to be based on Carmen, or possibly Betty/ Anushka. It's white with a pink and green flower print, and pink lace at the top. I think the print is called sweet pea. It is sooo pretty. I can't wait till that one comes out.
Thanks for the advice. I think I will get Matilda, in either black or pink. I hope the Carmen fits you in the next size up if you decide to reorder it. Best of luck.

I just googled the Maya bra and its so pretty! It reminds me of the Valentina that is the only bra I still use that is pre-Bratabase meaning I really like it. I hope you like the Matilda if you get it! Good luck back at you!
